We were at my favorite junk store over the weekend and came across some vintage post cards. I bought 3 from 1934 and 2 from 1918! I am going to get the other 1918 cards next weekend, I think.

Two ladies were on a trip along the Florida coast in September of 1934. If you are interested, I can "read" to you what they wrote home.

That is so cool....a glimpse at the past. Sure what did they have to say? Just think of what they would think of you putting this out on the internet?? KInda weird huh?

Glo - never thought about it that way!

The first postcard is of the fort and city gates at St. Augustine.
Postmark Sept. 4, 1934, 3:30 PM

To Mrs. L.E. Simmons of Repton, Ala (that's the entire address!)

Mon. PM

We are at the fort the PM. this is quite an interesting city. We haven't seen any rain since we left home.

Eleanor and Mary

and written in the short edge of the card: Daytona Bch 10:30

The water is very pretty - but rather cool here. We have a pretty view from our room.

The second post card is postmarked Spt. 5, 1934, 11:00 AM
It is a picture of the Ponce de Leon hotel in St. Augustine

To Mrs. N. A. Hanks of Evergreen, Ala

Mailed Wed AM

We are spending the night in Palm Beach City. Our room faces the ocean but it has been raining for several hours. We will go to Miami tomorrow and spend the day. Alice hasn't felt well today. Has had fever all day. She thinks she will be ok in the morning. I hope Marvin Jo is better. We will visit the largest hotel of its kind in the morning, just across the bay. We are having a nice time.

To Mrs. Simmons of Repton, Ala

Cool! I think she's referring to the railroad that was totally wiped out just a year later.

Hurricane/Railroad

Very historically interesting...

almost a year to the day....that is interesting. Thank you for the link, Dodie!

Oh too cool! I love stuff like that! We have photo copies of dozens of letters and postcards that my gramma sent to her mom and her sister while hitch hiking across the country during the depression!

Now that sounds like an adventure! That is cool, AngieBelle!

I love old postcards. I have some my Daddy sent to his parents when he was in the Army ca 1939. So they have sentimental value too.

keep working hard and maybe you will be able to afford some new ones that are not used

Cool finding old postcards like that. And, for anyone's info, Evergreen and Repton STILL get mail addressed that way!:)
(I work for the P.O. and have seen letters addressed to towns around there just like that!):)

Thanks for sharing DD! That was a nice look into the past:)

Thanks for the POSTal info, LuvN~Travel;)

LOL Jason! I have a goal to work for!

LuvN~Travel - We thought we'd take a roadtrip to Repton and Evergreen just to look around. From the sound of it, it shouldn't take too long! ;)

I'm glad you enjoyed the post yepod. I think old letters and postcards are neat.

Dodpey's Daisy, just don't blink when you go through Repton. You just may misssssss it!:) Kim
