Anyone here know what happened to a lot of our trip countdown tickers and why they are not showing up????? I love watching that feature

I found out what is up with the missing tickers

I know that many posters use countdown timers and tickers from Magical Kingdom. I received a complaint from a poster that their virus warning software was complaining about a page on the DIS Boards. Further investigation showed that the warning was being triggered by the tickers from Magical Kingdoms. I checked Google's safe browsing page and it reports that:

Of the 10 pages we tested on the site over the past 90 days, 3 page(s) resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent. The last time Google visited this site was on 2010-03-24, and the last time suspicious content was found on this site was on 2010-03-24.

Malicious software is hosted on 1 domain(s), including imagehacks.info/.

This site was hosted on 1 network(s) including AS30496 (COLO4).


So for your safety we have blocked that web site.
I know everyone loves their tickers but our visitors safety is our highest priority.
We can revisit this if the site gets cleaned up

Yup.. There was a problem with tickers from one site.. showing a malware alert in some browsers.

I was seeing it yesterday myself.. VERY annoying and kinda scary. Anyway.. it's been addressed for now.

While we all like to think that everyone on the DIS is a friendly, well meaning sort just like ourselves ... out to help with no thought of compensation etc.

That's not always the case. If you get a private message from someone offering to help you book or plan your vacation trip... or offering to take over your reservation you booked directly -- it may seem tempting. Sometimes there are rewards or 'bonuses offered... which only increases the temptation.

But please keep in mind this is solicitation. They are in effect advertising to you, via a private message. It's being done in a Private Message because these folks are familiar with the DIS Guidelines which state that conducting business on the DIS boards is not permitted. Therefore, they hide with private messages hoping to not get caught.

DIS Posting Guidelines

Please keep in mind... not all these folks are as well meaning as the folks who have no vested interest in helping you with your trip on the open boards. And once they have control of your reservation and access to your personal details - you generally can't take that back.

Please be careful out there and do not trust your personal information to anyone you meet on the boards.. just as you would not give that information to someone you just met at the mall.

This is just a general reminder that the DIS ... as much as we like to think otherwise .. still technically resides on the internet and bad things can happen ANYWHERE.

We'd very much prefer that they don't happen here. So be smart and be safe with your information.

Just a note here to say that more folks have PM'd me about this issue than just about anything else that has ever come up on the boards.

I had no idea this problem was so rampant!

Hopefully these reminders will bring this issue to a rapid end on the DIS Resorts Board.
