My sister plays another online game and it seems that hackers are up to no good. So it made me think about VMK passwords.

We have had some issues here with members and their VMK accounts.

Make sure that your passwords to VMK (and anywhere where you want them to be secure) contains both numbers and letters and best yet no real words.

Just parts of words.

example:

use the Capitals from the following for your password:

My Pet Dog's Name Is Fido.

then add numbers

14MPDNIF2

Keep your accts safe.

FROM THE PLAYERS GUIDE

:wizard: If you need to change your password or account info with Disney

DISNEY ACCOUNT INFO CHANGES

Password changes with knowing password to secondary accts
(will have to know main acct password):
https://register.go.com/go/login?appRedirect=https://register.go.com/go/memberservices/home

Click on Already registered

then type in the user name and the vmk password and it will take you to the next screen where you do the changes

Wow, ok. I'll have to change mine then. You should include how to in your post, since I don't know..?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it. :)

I'll post instructions since you're not online right now, Mal.

Go to the VMK Homepage, scroll down and click on Your Account.

Next, enter your VMK login info, and click Log In. Once you log into your account, click on Account Details, then click Change Password down at the bottom of the blue box. Enter your old password, then your new one. And there ya go! A new password for you!!

Good Idea! thanks for the suggestion, I am not the expert there but will info from the guide and I know several other members know more about it than I and maybe they will post.

Yep, I just found out. :) I edited my first post. :)

"NOTE: BE SURE TO WRITE DOWN YOUR NEW PASSWORD SO YOU DON'T FORGET IT!!!"

That kind of defeats the whole purpose, especially since about 99% of all "hacking" is done by family, friends, coworkers etc..... if you cant remember your password, then you need to chose one you can remember

the biggest key here is to make your password something noone else knows or could guess, and if you are really concerned about hacking, make sure your password is an odd number of charachters (7, 9 or 11) since the password generator programs typically search most common first (6 or 8 charachters)

.....

Ok.... So you're suggesting that people don't write down passwords and risk forgetting it..?

Mine already has numbers

go ahead and write yours down. Thats up to you, but written down passwords are significantly more likely to be stolen than remembered passwords. Make is a bit less "difficult" but easier for you to remember and dont write it down. Or not, whatever. The likelyhood that your password will be "hacked" are so slim, you have a better chance of hitting the lottery in two different states on the same day. Most passwords are not "hacked" they are STOLEN. There are various ways of password theft. The most common is that someone writes their password down and someone else gets it. The 2nd most common is that they actually TELL someone else their password, and in a very distant 3rd place is a password stealing program/virus that someone emails you. Now I am NOT saying, you should make your password EASY. You should never have a password that is one English language word, or one that is your phone number or birthday. Your passwoprd should never be something you identify with, always something different. for example: if you are a Yankees fan, your password should not be YANKSRULE but make it something out of charachter like SOXrBEST (yes, VMK passwords ARE case sensitive)

To be totally honest with you.. VMK passwords are not case sensitive. Mine has caps in it, and I just entered it in all lowercased. And it got by. Now I don't want to argue.. But do what you all want, I was just trying to help some people out...:headache:

you dont get it, I am as well. Bottom line, especially if you are a kid: if you write your password down, it is likely to be stolen

By now everyone should know that I am a computer technician. If anyone knows about these things, its me.

The other thing to be aware of is that Internet Explorer will sometimes ask if you want to store your password. If you say yes, then if you enter your login, the password automatically is entered for you. If somebody's brother/sister then used the computer, they don't even have to know your password to access your vmk account.

right bopper, this goes for logging on at friends houses etc too - we have had alot of people come on Dis and claim thier account was hacked, when what really happened was they logged on at a friends house and stored the password

I read that if you put an asterik in your password, it can take hacking programs a century to hack your password as opposed to a couple minutes.

that is a false claim Abso - for the most part, asterisks would not be allowed in passwords due to the programming use - asterisks, slashes, question marks - for most systems, would not be allowed

while hacking a password is not common we all want our accounts to be as safe as possible.

So a few safety precautions are just the wise thing to do.

I agree Mal, but my point was that writing your password down is like leaving the keys in your car door, if you cannot remember your password and have to write it down, you need an easier password. Keep in mind the target audience here: predominantly children. Children have friends, who probably play VMK as well. And children steal from each other. I know. My 9 year old gave his password for Runescape to his friend. He told me about it 10 minutes later, by the time I logged in to change his password, the friend had ALREADY CHANGED IT! 90% of ALL CRIMES committed against another person are done by someone that person knows. You are more likely to be robbed by a friend or family member than a stranger. And that includes password theft.
