A non-member can call Disney and get VWL?

I thought new members could only buy in at the new properties (SSR and AKV) and only existing members could purchase points at sold out properties as add-ons. Can I really buy-in at VWL? (I read this in another thread but would like others to chime in as I'm not totally convinced this is true. Our guide at Disney knew how much I liked the WL but never offered it to us.):confused3

I told my guide - I wanted nothing but VWL and BCV and I waited about 3 months to get points at VWL. It was my first DVC Purchase

Disney is actively selling SSR, AKV and now OKW (with the extended expiration date of Jan 31, 2057) so those are the resorts the guides are pushing. If you push back, they will sell you any DVC resort. Prices are: $98/pt for BWV and VWL, $101/pt for BCV, $96/pt for OKW (with the extended end date), and I think $95/pt for HH and VB. They often have points for the "sold out" resorts available immediately but if not you can go on a waiting list. BCV is the most difficult one to get through Disney with some people waiting several months for points. If you are not looking for a particular Use Year, even BCV is sometimes available immediately.

Ok. And the minimum purchase is still 160 pts, right?

Yes! Best wishes, if you want VWL, you can buy it from Disney. No special offers or development points.

Yes and there are some closing costs as well for new members. Existing members can add on more points with no closing costs. Also, none of the incentives available for SSR and AKV purchases apply when you purchase points at the "sold out" resorts other than the price differences based on demand (highest for BCV, lower for HH and VB).

BTW, this irks me. I believe my husband would have given DVC much more serious consideration, while we were down there, had he known the VWL were an option. PLUS, we could have gotten it at a $6 per pt. discount (roughly). I feel like our guide screwed me over. Yeah, I'm taking it a bit personal as I'm the one all DVC motivated. DH is against it. BUT, he likes the WL just as much as I do. If he had only known......

Don't take it personally, as has been stated, VWL is not one of the resorts they are actively selling. They will sell a new VWL contract IF they have the points available. Given the smaller size of the resort, they likely would not have enough points on hand to meet demand if they told all new prospective members that VWL could be an option based upon availability. For some folks would simply leave, wanting to buy VWL and either going resale or changing their minds if their guide did work diligently to secure a contract for them through ROFR, they could be stuck with more points in a 2042 ending resort than they want on hand.

I don't believe that you would have gotten a discount . . . . direct from Disney only discounts the currently marketed properties (i.e., AKV or SSR). Not sure if you mean you paid more on the resale market?

Only SSR and AKV offer discounts. All the rest you pay $104 (I think that's the going rate).

According to LisaS (check post above) they sell sold-out properties for less than the current $104. (Haven't figured out why just yet but there ya go.) LisaS says the VWL sell for $98 per point. I meant that I would have saved $6 off the current price of $104 by paying $98. Ugh. I want DVC so badly. This is me on DVC.....:hyper: . Kinda scary, I know.

$104 minus $98 = a "discount" of $6 for VWL

(it doesn't include the incentives available for SSR/AKV but that's where the poster was getting the number.)

if you want VWL, i would recommend looking for a resale contract. i'd bet you could get one for less than $90 per point (and i'm sure TTS would treat you right.)

They are 'selling' SSR and AKV. When we went on the tour in 2005, they were only selling SSR. We went home and told our guide that we're going to look for VWL on the resale market. That's when he told us that they had VWL too.

We bought 150 (the going in amount at the time) points at VWL from our guide and haven't looked back.

The contracts at the "sold out" resorts are shorter. VWL contracts expire on Jan 31, 2042. Contracts at SSR expire Jan 31, 2054, AKV contracts expire on Jan 31, 2057.

With the incentives, SSR sells for $94/pt -- $4/pt less than VWL and you get 12 more years and AKV sells for $96/pt, $2/pt less than VWL and you get 15 more years.

You can purchase VWL contracts on the resale market for the low 80s/pt. The process will take longer and you would want to examine each contract carefully to see how many points you will get. Some contracts are sold stripped of all current year and next year's points. Others have lots of points available. Do your homework and you can probably find a good one and save some money compared to buying from Disney. The process will take longer though -- about 2 months instead of a week or two.

This looks like a good deal from the TimeShareStore but I have a question. It says.... "Notes: 340 points coming on 6/1/08 (170 + 170 banked points from 2007) and 170 points coming on 6/1/09. Priced at $84 per point." Do the 170 banked points from '07 expire on May 31, 2009? Thanks!

Yes, the banked points from '07 will expire on May 31, 2009. So, you use them first in '08 and bank the '08 into '09 if you have extra.

Best wishes....we've bought from Disney and resale...it's all great!!
