We're at WDW now (my dh is sleeping in, he never sleeps in. I guess I tired him out!
) and this is the first time we have used the DDP. I hope my thoughts will be helpful for other families of small kids.
I've read often that it is "too much food" but for three small kids (9, 6 and 3) it is definitely not. I kinda wish we had gone with the deluxe. My kids need to eat 3 meals and 2 snacks a day, so we are supplementing with snacks in the room. We have used very credit and don't have anything left.
There never seems to be a good snack option when you need it. We can always get ice cream, but pretzels have been sold out when we want one, and often the lines are too long, or there isn't a stand near by. You have to plan snacks ahead.
The kids are not happy with the meals. Well, my son is eating great, and he's my special little guy with food issues. He has even been trying new things and liking them. But my girls are not happy with the food. I made a mistake, and I thought I had my 9 year old on the adult plan for both hotel stays, but she was on the kid plan this time. My mistake. And she's not happy with the food. One grilled cheese and carrot sticks is not enough for a 9 year old girl. Just to clarify, too, I have extremely skinny and active kids. They need to eat a lot! The meals are the perfect size for the 6 year old, too much for the 3 year old, and not enough for the 9 year old. My 3 refuses to drink the milk, so she is barely drinking anything. She normally drinks whole milk because she is too skinny, and the lowfat tastes "gwoss." She hasn't eaten anything but snacks and a half a hot dog since we got here.
We had to buy milk so she would drink something, I was really worried she was getting dehydrated. She's hungry, but everything is "gwoss." My older daughter is choking it down because she is hungry and not a stubborn 3 year old anymore, but she doesn't like it, either. We're checking in to a new hotel today, and this time I got it right and she can order from the adult plan.
The family is finally up, so real quick, character meals a win. signature meal (Brown Derby) huge fail. San Angel, huge win (they want to go back again, yay!). Sci Fi, fun. Spirit of Aloha, win.
