Curious as to which club they are currently selling at Disney. Is it AKV? And another ? have they officially called the Contemporary building a DVC yet? I am in the informational level of interest I guess. What has held me back is that we are NOT flexible with our travel times. And the times we HAVE To travel are Holiday Seasons so I am assuming it would become cost prohibitive- but I am not sure yet.
With 4 children the idea of a villa is very appealing.

They are currently selling AVK and there are still some contracts available for SSR. There has still been o official announcement for the Contemporary from DVC, though reportedly, timeshare paperwork has been filed with the state. But as to when or if it will actually start selling, that is anyones guess.

As far as Holiday times, do you mean only major holidays (Spring Break, Christmas, etc.) or are you able to travel during traditional school summer vacation times?

If your dates are set in stone for only major holidays, yes, it will take more points, making it more expensive, and it can be difficult to book, unless you book right at the 11 month home resort window. If you are able to travel during the more traditional summer breaks as well, you won't have too much trouble booking.

Yes we have to travel July 4th week and Christmas week. Dh's job closes those 2 weeks every year for a "company wide" vacation time. He could potentially take another week every once in a while- like every other year I suppose. That is why we didn't buy into it earlier(like when it started when BCV were going for like $2000!!!!DUH!:headache: )

I doubt you could get many BCV points for $2000 EVER! FYI, you can buy ANY of the DVC resorts direct from Disney...even the 'sold out' ones. They always have points available, but you can also do a resale from the board sponsor at the top of the page.

DVC points go for a specific amount per point, so the cost is dependant on the number of points you buy and need. Since you are going to be stuck using them in the highest point seasons, you will need a fairly large number of points, and that equates to a higher buy in as well as higher maintenance fees.

July is in Magic Season, so a non-concierge 2 bedroom, depending upon view, at AKV would be 256 to 360 points per week. Christmas week, 335 to 473 points per week.

java, using the Beach Club Villas as an example, you could stay for 5 nights (Sunday through Thursday) in a 2BR villa during the 4th of July week for 200 points, or at Christmas (same weekday nights) for 250 points. If you wanted to stay a full 7 day week, it would be 350 points total for the 4th of July and I think 462 points for the Christmas week.

If you could do a nice 5 day trip a 200 or 250 point contract would be very doable. And you would love the space of a 2BR - with full kitchen, spa tub, and washer and dryer. I believe it would be a nice option for you!!!

The washer and dryer in my opinion is totally worth going with the full size 1 or 2bd. I can pack a lot lighter now, my hubby is thrilled!

Having the kitchen is nice too. Can make full breakfasts in the room, then only eat in the parks for lunch and dinner. Really cuts the cost.

How often do you go to WDW and how long of a trip? Where do you usually stay?

Oh boy well we are always in a deluxe- with one stay at CSR that didn't go well.
This time we are staying where we will all fit in one room- Boardwalk concierge deluxe rooms. They accomodate 6 as does the same category at Wilderness lodge-(but that's not our favorite)

No really when Vacation Club was first starting out the initial investment was $2000!! We were not going to go to disney every year so we didn't do it. Well SURPISE We do go at least once a year! That's why I am tempted. Contemporary I think could throw me over the edge and into buying.

A washer/dryer, a full size fridge.........

That is incorrect. The 10% down payment may have been about $2000, but the very first DVC Resort sold for $48 per point pre-opening, 230 point minimum, or $11,040. That was before the DVC Resort (now known as Old Key West) opened in 1991.

If you indeed go every year and stay in Deluxes, I'd like to see where DVC is not going to save you a ton of $. DVC is not cost prohibitive for someone who travels during the same times and staying in Deluxes. How much do Deluxes cost per night during July 4th and Christmas? $400 per night? So, for a simple 5 night vacation, that is around $2k per year.
