Maybe he's crazy...

...or maybe you're all just jealous that he's a better negotiator than you are.

or a little bit of both........

- he bought the last week of Nov and first week of Dec but doesn't have to stay during that time ...,
M*M :)

It looks like if you buy at a 2BR at Sheraton Vistana Key West for 2 weeks in late Nov/early Dec, you would acquire 162,000 StarOption points that you can use to book nights or weeks at other Starwood Vacation Ownership properties.

With the similarities posted by others -- 20th Anniversary & 54 years of ownership --it really is starting to look like your friend bought at Vistana.

Yes, it really does. He said that he saw the model rooms at Saratoga AND Old Key West??? There are no longer sales offices w/model rooms at OKW! UNLESS...he is talking about the Vistana resort???

Hummm...makes you wonder doesn't it?

He also said there were tons of 20-year anniversary stuff posted all over the resorts with a counter of how many people had already bought into this special??? I dunno...I do know that aside from the Disney parks he also visited Sea World and Universal Studios.

Ok enough of this 'hummmmm', I'm calling my guide--he'll tell me.

Stay tuned...M*M :confused3

Keep us posted...this one is interesting! :)

Maybe you can tell your friend that you're really impressed with the deal he got and maybe he can show you some of the sales literature he surely brought home with him? Time for some detective work...I don't see how your Guide will be able to help you much in figuring out this one!

He claims it's a special they are running for the 20-year anniversary of DVC.
Ummmm...isn't it the 15th anniversary of DVC? I think your friend got scammed. :rotfl: Wait, sorry :guilty:

bumping

like they say on the old laugh-in showVEERY INTERESTING :rotfl2:

I would have believed the story if he'd mentioned about the free lifetime passes, like we all got here at the big house! :lmao:

Maybe he went to both the preview at SSR which explains why the OP got a thank you from Disney and then to Vistana and bought there. Since they have a "Key West" - Maybe he thought they were the same thing.

Hmm...
Just last month a friend was telling me about a new business opportunity in Orlando. He was very quiet about the details, but it seemed to involve timeshares.

He asked to borrow a DVC shirt, and one of my old CM badge holders. I was happy to oblige. Then just as he was leaving, he said something a little strange: "You know those timeshare booths they have all over the parks? Is there always somebody in them, or are they sometimes empty?" I had to admit I wasn't sure.

Haven't seen him in a while.

This thread reminds me of the guy who posted a cruise review recently. He trashed the ship, the crew, the people and the cruise line in great detail. Worst vacation he ever had. So he posted this review under the Sun Princess from Princess Cruise line section of the reviews explaining all this. After things didn't make sense (cabin numbers, decks, ports, etc) people finally figured out he was on the Norwegian cruise line on the Norwegian Sun ship. :rotfl2: Wrong ship, wrong cruise line. He posted all this in a cruisecritic.com review.

Sounds almost like this story where the guy swears he bought into DVC but most likely was somewhere else! It amazes me people can be so off base and still talking so 'big'! :confused3

WOW! If your friend actually bought a timeshare for a different resort and was left to believe that it is DVC that is sad. He will be in for a rude awakening. I certainly hope that he wasn’t scammed into believing that it was a DVC timeshare or even related to DVC.

Keep us posted as to any information you find out!

I do know there was some timeshare place when DH and I were there in March that was advertising as a Disney World Resort location and discussed passes for Disney world. But unfortunately I don’t remember the name.

OK still no answer on this buy-in. So I guess could have been a prank post.

I hope not but we have no answers as to what happened :goodvibes

This is a riot...however, if he actually bought at Vistana (and add me to the list of folks who think this is what he did...)...OMG...how can you make this big of a purchase and not KNOW WHERE IT IS??? :rotfl2:

It's like saying "Hey, look at my brand new Lincoln Navigator that I just bought....isn't it awesome??" And then jumping into a Honda Civic... (no offense to civic owners....we have one, too :) ) It's just....how can you not know??

:confused3

I'm a big DVC fan but, having stayed in the Cascades section of the Sheraton Vistana recently; must admit the room was beautiful & amenitites great - quite pricey too.

Of course, it was off-site & didn't have the famous Disney CM service level but, overall we'd return in a flash if we got the same rate (less than $100 for 4 nights & no TS presentation).

IMO, if he indeed visited the actual site, he should have realized that it was not a DVC property...not too difficult to figure that one out.

I was just talking to one of the parents @ my son's tennis lessons. They were bragging to the others as to their Disney timeshare. When I volunteered that we were DVC, they blankly said they didn't know what that was. Turns out, their TS is in Kissimmee but, to them - it's Disney.

Some people don't care or just don't "get it".
