A new code twist....

Geez Louise, you certainly are "holier than thou" I mean if you can't say that you have never taken advantage of a situation, than who are you to look down your nose at others; "those who live in glass houses", "he who is without sin, cast the first stone". You have sent the same lie, cheet and steal message with your prior devious action(s) of taking advantage.

The fact of the matter is, that she was honest and said that she didn't have the PIN, and they still honored the code. Therefore big bad Disney was able to bend the rules, and was not put out in any way by this. If they were they would not have done it.

I agree. This has happened in the past. I was able to use the elusive BEG code a couple of years back to get $79 at a moderate resort during the summer. From what I understand, it was the same type of situation. Someone got a hold of the 3 letter code assosicated with a pin discount and everyone was using it.

Don't worry....Disney is still making a profit on the rooms....even at 40% off. During the summer....rack rate at a moderate is $175....40% off puts you at $105 which is more than I paid when I received the AP discount rate in December 2006 of $99 per night just 2 months ago at CBR.

Same thing with Value resorts. The inflated "summer rate" of $109 per night is still $65 per night after the 40% off. I paid $59 for my room in December at All Star Sports.

I'm happy for all those that will either be able to experience a resort upgrade or that will be able to afford to stay onsite because of this excellent discount.
This may also help Disney in the future.

After staying both value and moderate back in December (split stay), we have started to like the moderates much better. My family now wants to stay moderate instead of value on our next trip in May. This is all a result of receiving the AP discount rate of $99 per night for the moderate. If we had never received the discount, we would have always stayed value. Now, Disney will probably get more money out of me because we have turned into "moderate" people.

I'm not going to go back and forth on this. I told my mom about the code when all this first came out on this board a few weeks ago. I also booked a trip for myself.

I am not the first one on this board, nor will I be the last that has used this code that didn't have a pin. I am not the first one on this board that shared it with someone else be it in my family or on a public message board.

I am HAPPY that my mother was able to use this code. She was honest with them that she did not have a pin. DISNEY chose to let her apply the code, and DISNEY chose to let her have a date outside the specified dates.

This is not a "take advantage of Disney b/c they have lots of money thing". I don't think that ANYONE takes advantage of Disney. Disney is well aware of what they are doing. We are the ones that have been speculating over this for weeks.

There is and has been more than one thread related to the people that used the code that didn't have the pin. I am THRILLED that I was able to use the code. I called in and asked if I could use it and they applied it.

I find it hard to believe that there is anyone that has not taken advantage of a situation that was put in front of them to save some money. I highly doubt that any one of you that wants to sit back and admonish the rest of us, would have turned it down had you been offered 40% off the rate of your room.

Furthermore, I never told my mother to lie about this, and I did not lie when I called. I asked if I could use it and was told yes. My mother did not try to cheat disney, she tried to change her date and asked if she would be able to get the same rate, and was told yes. I didn't EXPECT any kind of discount. I was happy to get it, but had I not, I could not have complained. But I imagine that those that got it were supposed to. Disney knows what they are doing, and could have and would have stopped all this weeks ago if they wanted to.

I am not asking for you to congratulate me, and I am certainly not the first to post that the discount was applied and to be excited about it. My post was simply to point out that none of us has any idea what Disney is doing, and just when we think we have guessed they will do something that will surprise us again.

So you can get down off your horse now and join the rest of us in the real world. No one is taking advantage of Disney, nor are they trying to. No one is lying or cheating or stealing. I don't think Disney would let much of that slide. Its the year of a million dreams. Maybe they are just making a few come true.

If you have a personal issue with me or what I did, feel free to PM me about it and I will be glad to discuss it with you. But please do not keep going on this thread. I will not be part of creating a mess for the mods. I was simply pointing out another twist to the code, not trying to stir the pot and cause problems.

I'm with you:woohoo: Everybody just enjoy your vacation...

Just got off the phone with my mom. She had made a reservation using the code, but told them she had left the pin at home. She doesn't have a pin number, but was just trying to use the code I told her about.

Excuse me, but she did lie! Along with the other posters, I'm appalled that you posted that you both used a PIN that you had no right to use and then are bragging that you got by with it.

My mother did not understand the whole thing. SHe doesn't read on these boards or know anything about pins or codes or anything. I told her she needed to tell them she didn't have the pin. Which she did when she called back. I simply asked if I could use the code when I called and was told yes.

You can be appalled all you want to. I'm appalled that there are this many people on a disney chat board that actually think that you can get one over on Disney. Disney can and will do what Disney wants. And they have with this mess. Once again, they could have and would have put a stop to all this weeks ago IF THEY WANTED TO. They have not.

How do you know that we do not have a right to use this code? Don't you think that if all these people did not have a right to use this code they would be told no? The truth you don't know anything about this code, and neither do any of the rest of us.

I find it hard to believe that if any of you had called and said "hey I heard about this 40% off code XXX can I use it" and they said yes. That you would stop and say, "Wait a minute, do I have a pin with my name, do I qualify for this because even though you say I can use it, I will not use it if I do not qualify for it please please charge me rack rate." "But sir/mam I am able to apply this to your rate." "NO no, please don't, I would be wrong for me to use this code in case maybe you don't know how to do your job and I don't actually qualify for it. Again, please charge me rack rate."

Once again, the mods don't need this. It has been said time and time again, that none of us knows what Disney's plan for these rates is. Just leave it alone. I got the rate. I'm not ashamed. I don't feel as if I did anything wrong. And my wish is that anyone that wants or needs to use this rate will be able to do so. If for some reason I lose my rate, I will still be happy for anyone and everyone that was able to use it. Once again I truly feel that if DIsney did not want someone to use one of these codes, then they wouldn't let them use it.

It is not your place or mine to point fingers at anyone, the truth is we just don't know who really can qualify to use these codes.

I'm pretty sure Disney knows this information is shared on message boards. Heck, they get a LOT more business if we do. People like myself wouldn't be able to go if they didn't get a spectacular deal. Back in 2001 finding a code that got us something like $69 per room per night (for 2 rooms) at a moderate made me able to convince DH to book ;)

We want to go again now that we have 3 kids, but I'm going to have to track down another great deal to do it. I'm not opposed to having someone share a code with me either, lol.

Look, if Disney *really* didn't want codes shared, they'd make a truly unique code for each person to whom they want to offer a deal. That way you couldn't use a shared code at all.

Just my take.

Oh, ETA that there is a code attached to my name in the Disney system, I just don't know what it is or for how much.

WELL SAID:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Excuse me, but she did lie! Along with the other posters, I'm appalled that you posted that you both used a PIN that you had no right to use and then are bragging that you got by with it.

My thoughts exactly! these types of posts just encourage other people to call disney reservations and try and get away with the same kind of thing. Then, when they don't get the same result they are upset. Why even post this?

Its amazing how you can act as if this is the first you have heard of this. In all honesty I don't really care what any of you think about me or what I did.

I am not encouraging anyone to do anything. This has been floating around here for weeks. Nor am I bragging. And if I was, so what. Its not as if 50 other people on this boad haven't gotten excited over being able to use this code.

The whole point of even posting my mother's experience, was to point out that just when eveyone thought they figured out what "they thought" was goign on with these codes, Disney does something new. They let someone book outside the dates and use the code.

I am in no way saying that they will let someone else do it. For all I know, my mom has some brand new code attached to her name that no one has heard of.

Once again, YOU CAN'T GET ONE OVER ON DISNEY. They are only going to do what they want to do. Everyone makes mistakes, but allowing this go on for weeks, is not a mistake on Disney's part. They are allowing it.

So the ones calling someone a cheater or implying that they are stealing something from Disney or any other sin you chose to accuse them of are the ones in the wrong.

Unless you work for Disney and know exactly what is going on with all of this, you have no right to climb up on your high horse and look down your nose at us, or better yet point fingers. Haven't you ever heard the old saying about pointing a finger at someone, you got three pointing back at you.

Lets drop it folks. Agree to disagree and move on.

Two weeks ago, when everyone was trying the codes, no one was REALLY sure whether this was a code that people could use without the pin. It was pretty obvious it wasn't a public code, but not a day went by without someone booking a trip (whether they had a pin or not).

When you hear so many people booking a code, it is human nature to get on the band wagon. You have to atleast try. There were people who reported that they called once without a pin and got the rate. There were other people who called 10 times before they got the code.

Time has passed and now it is obvious that no one should have been booked without a pin. But at the time, it wasn't entirely clear. You really can't come down on one poster who admitted that they told a "white lie" and got the code honored. The CM still could have said no. Each time (twice) I called, I was told -"you have no pin". If I had said my post card was at home, their response would have been the same thing- no pin...no code. Personally, I don't think I would have pretended to get a card, when I didn't. But, it's hard to judge what you might say at the time of the interaction.

I just think this whole thing should be put behind us and we should all relax the judgements.

kt mom - you don't have to explain yourself anymore to anyone. You did nothing wrong. You and your mother made the best decision you could at the time, based on the information you had. You just picked a bad time to post.

My mother did not know anything about a pin. I told her to see if she could use the code. They asked for a pin, she said she left it at home she'd have to call back. She called me to find out what that was. I told her to be upfront and tell them she had no pin. If they wanted to give her the discount they would regardless of a pin or no pin.

Again, Disney has allowed this to happen. Its their choice. They could stop it if they wanted to. Myabe the ones without pins that are being allowed to use it are being allowed to use it for some other reason unknown to any of us.

People post on here all the time about getting a good rate, or how they just booked their trip, etc and are excited, and just want to share their good fortune with others who love Disney. OP is just sharing. Who knows why her mom said she didn't have the PIN right then, the point is she did say she didn't have one later. And come on, who's kids are going to know what she did? I love the DIS boards and have learned so much here, but I'm so sick of simple comments turning a whole thread into an arguement! If you don't agree with it, just let it go, it's not your problem. Some folks are either bored and need to put their two cents in because they like the excitement or they are just trying to add another number to their total posts. Come on people, the reason I joined was because you all seemed so nice - can't we all get along?

All this kind of discussion does is 'angry up the blood' to quote Abraham (Grandpa) Simpson.

I'm sorry, but I can't say "congratulations" to you. I am really appalled that first of all you knowingly told your Mom to lie about having a PIN and then expected a discount you weren't supposed to get. It's amazing that you/she got an offer, but why would you post something like this? I'm not "holier than thou" and can't say I've never taken advantage of a situation but I wouldn't post it on a message board as an accomplishment. I guess people feel it's okay to lie, cheat, and take advantage of Disney because after all, Disney has lots of money and are making money off us anyway, other people have done it and managed to get away with it knowingly, etc. but what kind of message does that send to others, esp. children? ---Kathy

I have to agree here. Honesty is important, and it is too bad we forgo it so often. I too read the code, called and received the rates. I told them upfront that I had found the code on the internet, and I had not received anything, pin or otherwise. To me, lying would not have been worth the $800 savings. Luckily I was able to get the discount despite. I am certainly not trying to flame here, as I realize everyone has their own opinion on what is honest and what is not. I just think that many of us rush to twist the truth, this encourages our children to follow our example.

How can you agree? You used a code that according to your own words was not sent to you and according to some here you are not meant to have. You should have not accepted that code. Using it is the same as lying and cheating and stealing according to some. The idea seems to be that a large majority of the CM's either don't know how to do their jobs or were not properly trained, therefore it is our job as the customer to inform them that no but thank you, we will not accept the 40% off b/c we may not actually be supposed to.

I did not try to represent myself as having the code, I asked if I could apply it and was told yes. My mother did not know nor understand the whole situation. She said she left it at home so she could call me and find out what the situation was. I told her to tell them the truth, she didn't have one.

And bringing the effect that this will have on our children into this is a sad guilt tactic. My daughter is three. She does not know or understand any of this. It has no affect on her whatsoever.

You can flame me all you want to. Again, I don't care. I don't apologize for using the code. I don't apologize for telling it to my mother. At one time there was a link to someone's blog that had the codes listed. Grow up people. I dont' believe for a minute that any of you would chose not to use the code if you were able to.

Breathe.. let's all take a breath...

We're well on way to getting this thread closed... What's done is done. No point in arguing about it.

Enjoy the magic of whatever vacation you have and be thankful you can go!

Im sorry but are you a cm? How do you know she wasnt supposed to get it? According to one of the posts on here, there have been 60 rooms booked by people without the pin, and alot more people called to see if they had one and Disney gave them the discount.

And its really funny when someone says "take advantage of Disney" like Disney is a 5 year old. They charge 4 dollars for a water bottle in the dead heat of July yet we are the ones taking advantage of 40% off the rack room rate. Believe me, they make more than enough, lets remember that we stay at Disney to go to the theme parks and water parks/pleasure Island/downtown disney, thats where they make most of their money. This 40% off may sway people not to stay at the holiday inn express, but on Disney property. And honesty, in this day and age, I will teach my kids to look for the best bargain. If im going to grind myself at my job, Im not going to throw my money away and turn down discounts because I want to give Disney more money. Anyone on these boards if offered the 40% off from Disney would take it in a heartbeat.
