Update on DH - He has been hospitalized again because fluid is building up around his heart. We spent the afternoon and evening with him as he was tested and spoke with an infectious disease specialist.

It is possible that a root canal in June dislodged some bacteria that went to his heart back in June and is causing all these problems. And given his atrial fibrillation his heart doesn't beat properly so the infection took hold.

If so, the powerful antibiotics he is on now could resolve the situation; sure hope so.

Thanks, Jo! Prayers are appreciated!

Thanks Princess and Jo!

I'll update after I go in to see him later today; DS is with him right now!

DH spiked a fever yesterday :( which probably means no release from the hospital today but overall he is improving. His white cell count is down and his chest sounds good so we will see! When you are battling something even the doctors aren't sure about it's tough.

I know it sounds trite, but your thoughts and prayers do help!

Kathy

HOwever they changed their mind:worship::worship: and now is expected to leave sometime in the fall. YEAH for US:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
Very stressful last two weeks...
anyhow Kathy I am so sorry about your hubby. It must be extremely frustating. I hope today he is doing better.. Thoughts and prayers your way

Thank you Darla and minijeanie and Jo and Princess!

Yesterday was a bad day despite the fact that he didn't run a fever :(

Testing was delayed and then they decided to run a CT scan at 7:30 pm.

Then they brought in an elderly new roommate who spoke no English and "required" a young "live in" female translator in their teeny, tiny room. The roommate also used a very noisy C-PAP machine.

So after being denied a window view all these 4 days I hit MY LIMIT!

I requested a room change and he was moved to a new room and got a window (and immediately another roommate....!)

Maybe we will find out if he can be released today or if the scan found any infection in his body. The infectious disease specialist doesn't think the dental work link to his heart beat irregularity is the cause. :worried:

One way or the other; despite his being tired of the hospital I do not want him to come home and get sick again.....

Thanks for listening everyone!

Thanks Jo!

Yes, yesterday happened to also be our anniversary and DH did come home in the late afternoon complete with a PICC line to receive intravenous antibiotics 3x a day.

We spent two hours with the nurse who came to house to show us how to clean the line, inject the drug, clean the line again etc. DS is now the main caregiver and is doing a marvelous job!

The nurse will come back every few days and the drug will be delivered as needed for the two or so weeks he has to take it before going back to the infectious disease specialist.

It was enough of an anniversary present just to have him home!

We still don't know the cause of the infection but the CT scan showed a hernia around his appendix and his appendix is slightly inflamed and will be watched by doctors.

And if returning to his normal behavior is a sign of healing DH is definitely doing that! When awake, he is his usual cranky self wanting to order us around and be waited on :lmao: We have to remind him that he is no longer in the hospital with a call button and nurses to do things!

His appetite has returned and he is very happy to be home!

K.
