Who like to bash the president.............

I have NEVER bashed the president before--and I am not bashing him now.

Heck--the Mayor of New Orleans is pretty peaved right now.

It isn't about bashing the administration--it is about getting the people the help they need.

I understand that but right now can't people just for once put politics aside and act compassionate?

Sometimes you just have to bite your tongue and do whats needed.

I see. So threads talking about how people should shoot looters, or that the people who in new orleans weren't personally responsible - those are okay. But to question our governments actions - that's unamerican.

I am so sick and tired of being told I am not compassionate! Meanwhile I took money out of my savings account to donate to the red cross. I'm dropping off blankets at a church that is headed down to Mississippi this weekend. I'm giving my brother who lives paycheck to paycheck a gas card so that he can fill up his tank this weekend. And I'm not compassionate!

Meanwhile - lets shoot looters - that shows REAL compassion.

glad we got that straight! ;)

After reading some of the post here in the last couple of days I have come to realize a sad fact. If the Dis boards represent a cross section of America, this nation is in some serious trouble.

That is so true. I just said to my husband last night that we are definitely not the UNITED states if America. The whole thing just makes me sick. I equate it to a family that sticks together through thick and thin, no matter what, no matter who in the family makes a mistake, is the black sheep, has gone down the wrong path, whatever; but that family is still there for each other. This is what we SHOULD be doing, but oh no, why on earth would we do that. It's too much fun picking people apart, holding everything under a microscope, holding people to unreachable goals, and laughing at them when they fail.

We are absolutely a laughing stock to the rest of the world. Why on earth would they have any respect for us when we don't respect each other. I don't care how much people hate President Bush, my husband included, he is still OUR president, and as such we should show some respect toward him. I cannot believe the vile, hate-filled things coming out of people's mouths. I am just so disappointed and embarrassed to think that others from outside this country think all Americans are back-stabbing, complaining, whining, hate-filled people.

Some of the news reporters have made me absolutely sick, Joe Scarborough and Shephard Smith in particular. How dare they say nothing has been done for the people of NO? How dare people say nothing has been done for the people of NO? My God, what are you people watching? So yes, let's make some news video of how the good ole USA did nothing for the people of NO, (definitely not my opinion), and let's broadcast that to the rest of the world so that they have even more ammunition against us. After all, we're just despicable heathens who don't even take care of their own, why shouldn't the rest of the world want to wipe us off the face of the earth. :worried: :sad2: :sad1:

I remember the song too. ;)

Good to hear you're an active citizen. More people shoud be. :sunny:

I believe that is indeed what is happening with regard to the essentials (such as reestablishing health and safety). Beyond that point, reasonable people differ about what is in the best interest of compassion.

We are doing what's needed, at least on these boards. I see a lot of compassion and giving here. We're just not biting our tongues while we do it! ;)

And you wonder why we have a nation divded...

I do not like to "bash" the president. In fact I voted for and supported this president. I have defended him many times. I just cannot believe how slow he was to respond to this. I cannot fathom how he declared it a disaster area and then spent the next day eating birthday cake and discussing Medicare! :confused3

Second of all, just because people may have strong feelings towards the president doesn't mean they are doing nothing! Give me a break!

Funny in all of this--the President even agrees that the past day or so has been unacceptable.

So those of us on the "divided" side--must have been on to something.

I don't think anyone has actually advocated the point that the emergency response has been "acceptable." I think any politician who gets up in front of microphones and claims that the response has been acceptable is basically paving their way to the end of their career.

Nevermind....I obviously cannot adequatly express what I am trying to say. Its true meaning is getting all askewed.
I think I'll go back to the fluff posts, although they are few and far between.

I just don't see how we are a divided nation. Look at the response! Airlines on the brink of bankruptcy are sending in relief flights. Americans of all walks of life are giving money to charities. People are opening their doors to the survivors of this great tragedy. Seems to me like America truly is coming together to help these people.

Nothing about this disaster is "acceptable". The point is that WE as a nation work together, not waste precious energy pointing fingers, almost gleefully showing pictures of the dead, dying, and suffering as if to say, "look how horrible the US is, look at what hypocrites and demons they are, they just leave dead people by the side of the road".

I was so proud of the Coast Guard in the way they were risking their lives rescuing peope off of their roofs, and of the volunteers with boats saving people's lives. I am so sorry for all the pain, devastation and suffering all of these affected people are going through.

Could things have gone better in the rescue operations? Things always could go better. We all learn from mistakes, but to continue to criticize every thing and every one after everything that has been done so far already just seems so callous and unfair.

Would I be saying these things if I was one of those poor people that were stranded in NO? I highly doubt it, but I would hope I had faith that everything was being done, and if I was still stranded out there then I hope that I would think that there must be someone worse off than me who is being rescued. I don't know.

What I do know is that I am proud to be an American, I am thrilled that I live in the USA, and I am so sad at those that like to hold us up like a laughing stock to the rest of the world.

Noone is trying to hold us up as a laughing stock. FEMA themselves--said they didn't know about anybody at the convention center.

Sometimes--pictures are 1000 words...and while it was painful to watch--man it got things moving real quick. I was disgusted at 7pm last evening...and now am thrilled that help finally got there.

Everyone is missing the point. I advocated for days that it would take time. It finally reached a breaking point that if nothing was done--those people would die. The journalists saw it, the police saw it, the mayor saw it, the president saw it. The president said get it there NOW--and voila they are there.

This is what an appropriate response is after a hurricane.

Forgive me for looking at everyone's locations--I don't know where you've been in the past so don't know if you have been through or not....but my rage comes from experience. I know what it can be like and the most of my discontent was when the heck my power was going to come back on. Not worrying about starving to death or watching my baby die.

If you have not been through a hurricane--it really does look like they are trying for the region as a whole. But New Orleans was dying.....all that help we're hearing about and saw..the airdrops and such. That wasn't downtown--that was elsewhere. The city got ignored for a little bit and now the response is being what it should have been.

The president was saying the lack of response was unacceptable. Obviously a disaster is never acceptable. He said MOVE--and they finally MOVED.

Why can't we be friends?
Why can't we be friends?
Why can't we be friends?
Why can't we be friends?
and why can't we pull together and put aside our differences? just a little thought
