I have written about this movie coming out nationwide in September before. The name of the movie is "Facing The Giants". It is a wonderful wonderful wonderful movie and yes it is about the Christian religion but it is not deserving of a PG rating. NO cursing...NO nudity...NO drugs...NO violence(other than football playing).

This movie was ENTIRELY made by a local church. Written by and starring one of the ministers as well as ALL the actors are local people. We got a sneak preview a couple of months ago and it has to be the BEST movie I have ever seen in my whole life. When it comes out I encourage everyone to see it.

The film was picked up by Sony Pictures and they loved it so much they have decided to release it nationwide in the Fall. Some of you might see articles about this rating in the next few days as I hear Time, Good Morning America, and others will be doing interviews with the Pastors of this church in the next few days. This could actually HELP the viewing of this film but I just want y'all to know that this IS a movie that ANYONE in your family can feel good about watching. It really is a good one so do not let a PG rating fool you.

I hadn't hear of it. Thanks for the info. It is odd how the rating system works.

PG doesn't insinuate that there is anything "wrong" in the movie (i.e.- curse words or nudity). PG just means "Parental Guidance suggested." I think that is fair for a religious movie, Heck- I think PG is fair for ANY movie. Parents should be aware of what their kids are watching.

(PS- I'm not trying to say that this movie is bad by any means- just that I don't think PG is a tough rating) :)

Lots of theaters don't want G rated movies, because typically they only attract parents with little kids. They'll get a more diverse audience with the PG.

ITA Any movie with religious overtones, parents should be aware of what they are watching. If the title didn't imply anything religious parents could claim their kids were exposed to a belief system that didn't match theirs. This way, parents have to take responsibility for whether they allow their children to watch.

The PR people for the movie just need to do a good job making it clear it is a FAMILY movies.

I agree with a PG rating if there are religious overtones. It could be confusing to a child so why not suggest a parent view with the child? I agree that it'll most likely HELP the movie not to mention the PR from the circuit at this "shocking" rating.

Don't forget that Star Wars got a PG rating. The ratings board was on the fence about it, and asked George Lucas which he'd prefer. He opted for the PG.

To many people G means a children's film, not a family film.

I'm unfamiliar with this film, but any discussion of salvation surely would get a PG.

Thanks guys!!

No one is familiar with it yet because it has not been released to the general public yet. That is supposed to come out in September since it is a football movie they are timing it with high school football. Our town(AlbanyGA) is the only place that has seen it so far and they only released it for a week...as a treat since it is all local people and local scenery in it. I was really amazed at the talent in it. Just regular folks are in it...Moms..Dads...Eye doctor...local football players....even my dd's teacher from this year had her son in a key role with the football players. Lots of laughs and tears going on in this movie.

I will remind everyone to go see this once it is released.
