My DS is 9 y/o & he goes outside to play with his neighborhood friends. Well, in the course of 30 minutes, he's at the door 3 to 4 times either "can we all have a snack? or "can I go swimming in Tommy's pool?" or "can I have another towel since we're building a fort?" or "what time is Dad coming home?" etc....I could go on for another 30 minutes with all the questions! The funny thing is that it seems he knows when I've just reached the top of the stairs to change baby's diaper or I'm in the laundry room handwashing something, you get my drift?

So, am I the only one living thru this nightmare of back & forth to the door??? Somedays, I feel like I"m going   ! Oh & I keep my screen/storm door locked since he would just walk in with wet feet or feet covered with sand (from a sandbox) or grass. This way with the door locked, I have control over him NOT messing my floor. (So I guess in part, it's my own fault for my aggravation!)

Take it from a Mom who's kids are older and no longer do these things, that yes they drive you crazy at times. But cherish it, because eventually they stop and you wind up missing it and them.

Make the best of it with them. Go outside and help them build that fort and play in it with them. You'll never forget those times and neither will they.

Mine aren't quite old enough for that yet, but I do get the "mommy" thing all the time. Dad and Papa could be in the same room and they will come upstairs and holler to me to ask me something.

Aah.. story of my life:

Mommy, can we play in the garage?
5 mins later:
mommy, can we ride our bikes?
5 mins later:
mommy, can we play with the bubble blower?

and my wildest one yet (yesterday):
mommy, can we take the pillows out on the yard and have a pillow fight outside? (mind you it's raining outside!)

At least they asked! My kids actually did this without asking, with the COUCH pillows!! It wasn't raining though, thank God! I have a 9 year old ds too and yes we too this all day long too. Except Fridays (today), neighbor kids always seem to be gone on Fridays! I love Fridays!

DD isn't yet old enough to play outside by herself since we don't have a fenced in yard. I do however get interrupted a zillion times when I'm on the phone. She could be sound asleep but the moment I pick up the phone and start dialing it's Mommy can I have . . . . . I guess it's payback for all the times I interrupts my mom.

Well, I'm not a mom, but my daughter seems to feel the need to go inside to get something every 10 minutes or so when she's outside playing with friends.

"Daddy, can I bring my <insert big toy that dad's gonna have to go get> outside?"

Oh yes cati, I also hear "I'm bored....there's nothing to do!" at least 10 times per day (that is just if his little friend is having his lunch & can't play for 10 minutes!)

When I think of all the COOL toys he's got, Game Boy SP, a Computer with about 50 computer games, a pinball machine, a CD Player, about 200 great books in his room, etc...but nothing interests him.

I loved reading all the posts in here... it just makes me laugh!!

I feel much better when I read or hear that someone else's child does wacky and goofy things too!

Sometimes I just *sigh* :p

my dd's do all of the above plus they "share" juice, soda, chips, ice pops, icecream etc with EVERY kid in the neighborhood EVERY day. I swear I must be the only mom who does any grocery shopping on my block. Too bad there's never anything left for DH and I to enjoy LOL.

Ah... how could I have forgotten this one? My kids will drape themselves on the couch looking like a lost puppy and go mommy, I don't have anything to do!

That's when I go (in my evil voice): well, you can always clean up your room, clean up the playroom, mop the floor, do the laundry, take the trash out, and clean the bathroom!

Talk about a fast exit... all of a sudden they're busy again!

Ahhh....that's a good one!!! Tell them to go clean their rooms & they take off! I like that one!! The funny thing is that he can be OUT playing all day long & as soon as he steps foot in the house, he starts with the "I'm bored" routine!

You know how most neighborhoods have those couple of houses where all the kids seem to congregate? Ours is one of those homes and I love it--the more the merrier and I can keep an eye on everyone. However.......Having ds8 come in and out the door literally every two minutes with a request, a complaint or a whiiiiine gets to be too much some days. I usually send him out the door with an armful of ice pops, drinks or cookies and two phrases my mom always used on me, "You come in this house one more time and you're in for the rest of the day!" and, "Unless there's blood, I don't wanna know about it!" Usually don't hear a peep after that.:)

Uh huh - I have three kids ages 10-14 and a pool, so they and the neighborhood kids are constantly in and out with their wet feet asking for food, towels, etc. During the summer there is usually a time in the afternoon when I tell them I'm lying down with a book and do not disturb sign. When I tell my kids I cannot be bothered from 4pm until 5pm they listen or else!!!
