I have a tumor in my neck which can be felt and can also be seen on x-rays. The dr. had an MRI done to get a better idea of what the tumor could be...the results from the radiologist came back with...
"There is nothing there, no tumor/growth"! How is this possible? The tumor can still be felt and seen on X-rays. How does the MRI not show it?

The dr. says he is very surprised by the test results BUT he says that "I don't have anything to worry about and if the tumor seems to get bigger then I should come back in" What?? The tumor hasn't even been identified yet.

This in no way sounds right to me! I have never really been sick in my life so I have no experience with these types of issues but I do have a brain in my head and this makes no sense to me.

If anyone here can shead some light on this for me I would appreciate it.
Now I'm off to find another dr. for a second opinion.

OMG- I would definitely get a second opinion! Hopefully it is just a benign (sp ) cyst!

I don't know much about this subject, but good luck!:sunny:

Gooid that you're getting a second opinion. You didn't say where the enlargement was on your neck - could it be an enlarged thyroid gland (that would be in the front under the "Adam's apple" area)? I have thyroid enlargement - not visible, but the doctor can palpate it. Good Luck!!!!

Getting a second opinion is the best thing to do. Hope everything goes well for you.

Second opinion is a sound idea, BUT....doesn't sound like there's much to worry about. Try not to lose any sleep over it:D

I had a coworker who was dignosed with a hernia. Well when she went in for the surgery to remove it they could find no hernia. I would much rather find out NOW then to be under the knife when they discover that there is nothing there.

That's really strange. It could be that yours and someone elses' film got mixed up and/or your id numbers were transposed. Or the radiologist could've made a mistake. If it can be palpated and seen on x-ray, I too would be very concerned.

I agree with getting a second opinion.

Depending on where the tumor is on your neck, you could have a biopsy. I think I would want one for peace of mind. I have known too many people that have had medical problems and precious time was wasted by not getting the proper testing and diagnosis.

I hope things go well for you. Keep us posted!

 Hi JiminyFan. I am one, too. I was just talking to a friend yesterday about a "growth" that she had. It ended up being associated with her thyroid. I like the idea of a second opinion!
