A Magical Place at a Magical Time of Year

Well, Katie is home, but she's not well. She's always been good at self-diagnosing strep throat. Seems that's what she's got (she really needs to have her tonsils taken out, but with college and travel, it's tough to schedule). Chris is taking her to a minor medical today.

I have a home visit for our golden retriever rescue group. I'll get Harry all brushed out and pretty and take him with me for the interview at 3.

Looked for Mickey Mail today, but there wasn't any in yesterday's mail. It will probably come while we're in Memphis for Thanksgiving.

I was a little disappointed to read yesterday that MVMCP for Dec 18 (our day) is completely sold out. That means the crowds will be off the chain. I am glad we're not going for the characters really. We'll definitely see the last parade.

Today's trivia:
27 days until Disney (26) Between France and Morocco in Epcot there is something different about the pavement. What is it?
a.) It is a different color.
b.) It is made of cobblestone.
c.) It is filled with hidden Mickeys.
d.) It is a wooden bridge.

And today's photo:

Yesterday's trivia:
In The Haunted Mansion, when the room with portraits on the wall appears to "stretch," what is actually happening?
a.) The floor lowers
b.) The ceiling rises
c.) Nothing - it is an optical illusion
d.) The room moves clockwise
Answer: b. Your tour of The Haunted Mansion begins in an eight-sided room, where you see paintings of some of the Mansion's former guests in their "corruptible, mortal state." Soon you notice that the room appears to be stretching upwards, to reveal the true extent of the pictures on the walls. So, is the haunted room actually stretching, or is it your imagination, hmmm? Well, if you are in the WDW Haunted Mansion, the ceiling of both of its two "stretching rooms" moves upwards. However, if you visit the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland, the room is actually a large elevator that takes you down one level. Why the difference? This effect was originally created out of necessity. When the original Haunted Mansion was being built in Disneyland back in 1963, the empty building it was going into had been constructed years earlier and was too small to fit everything the Imagineers wanted inside. So, they dug a "basement" to the mansion and connected it (by a tunnel that can't be seen by Guests) to a separate attraction building - which, thanks to Disneyland's limited space had to be built literally on the other side of the existing Disneyland Railroad tracks. The imagineers designed the "stretching room" to take guests down one level, under the tracks, and over to the attraction building. That wasn't necessary in the WDW Haunted Mansion where, thanks to the lack of space constraints, Guests can exit directly into the attraction building. But the effect was so popular in Disneyland that the Imagineers decided to include it in the WDW Mansion.

Points: Tammie - 1 point for all of the details, although it seems the answer is incorrect. :confused3, 1 point for the photo. I almost feel like I'm there, reading your description.

Katie.jpg

This is Katie in 2008 at sunset on the balcony outside the California Grill at the Contemporary Hotel. She is pretending to hold up Cinderella's Castle in the palm of her hand. This was while we were waiting for our table for a magnificent meal!

Points: Tammie - 1 each for Katie, balcony, California Grill, Contemporary, pretending to hold the castle - total 5

Point tally:
Tammie - 57
Ann - 49
Ashley - 16
tankgirl - 17

I'm going to guess D.

And its Katie and Caitlin at the Living Seas in Epcot on the 2nd floor checking out the giant tank and a HUGE Turtle!

BTW. I'm Betsy. Its okay cause I forget your name too. LOL. In my head I refer to you as the Dis person from Austion with a daughter. I'm horrible with names.

I was disappointed to see the party on the 18th sold out, too! Count us in for the 2nd parade showing, as well!! :thumbsup2

Ok good to know your name now! ha ha - the DIS person from Austin with a daughter! :rotfl:

Yeah, kinda stinks. But we'll live with it. As long as the lines for cookies and cocoa aren't too long!

Where did you see the list of sold out MVMCP? I wonder about the day we are going. Betsy? Any ideas?
It was in my Allears newsletter and is at the top of the page here. The newsletter said that was the only party that's sold out at this time.

We are on the road to Memphis for Thanksgiving and my trivia book isn't handy. But I'll share today's photo with y'all. I'll do the scoring later as well.

Also, I read that they released new park hours. I am on my work computer so I don't have my spreadsheet handy, but I noticed they have added an 8pm Fantasmic every night (now there are two every evening we're there) and it looks like the hours have been extended at most parks. Didn't see any EMH evenings at Epcot. I wonder why?

You and Chris riding the waves atCrush Gusher at Typhoon Lagoon!

I hope you made it safe to Memphis...and your return home is safe too! Hope Katie is feeling better. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Do you realize how close your trip is now!!
We just got home yesterday and I'm not organized enough yet to start on a TR but I do enjoy going back through everything on here I missed. As usual, love your photos:goodvibes

I am catching up on scoring tonight.

a.) It is a different color.
b.) It is made of cobblestone.
c.) It is filled with hidden Mickeys.
d.) It is a wooden bridge.
Answer: a.) An area of the pavement between France and Morocco is painted a different color from the rest of the dark red ground. Why? The color change is supposed to suggest a waterway, representing the Straits of Gibraltar, which divides Europe and Africa - the continents that are home to France and Morocco respectively.

Points: (nobody, unfortunately :()

This is Caitlin (left) and Katie at the Living Seas pavilion at Epcot in 2008. We had just been to Turtle Talk with Crush and they insisted that this was "the real Crush" behind the "glass". They had a good time playing with him, and he really did play back. I thought it was a great pic. 16- and 15-year-old kids-at-heart.

Points:
Betsy - 1 point each for Katie, Caitlin, Living Seas, Epcot, 2nd floor, giant tank, huge turtle. Total 7.

This is Chris and me at the bottom of one of the slides at Crush N Gusher at Typhoon Lagoon in 2008, taken by a Photopass photographer. I kinda hate the pic, but love the memory!

Points: Tammie - 4 points (me, Chris, Crush N Gusher, Typhoon Lagoon)

Point tally:
Tammie - 61
Ann - 49
Ashley - 16
Betsy - 24

I know some of you are leaving very soon for your trips. Please send me your addresses so I can send a little participation gift (and maybe a grand prize to the BIG winner).

I hope you made it safe to Memphis...and your return home is safe too! Hope Katie is feeling better. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
We did make it safely there and home. It was a busy, hectic week, having to visit lots of friends and family, but we enjoyed it. It was nice to have today at home to catch up and relax. Katie is feeling much better and back in Boulder tonight. We see her again in 3 weeks, then it's off to Disney!

Do you realize how close your trip is now!!

I can't believe it! We're in the teens! I am LOVING reading your trip report!

Happy Thanksgiving, Susan! Enjoy your family!!

Thanks so much to both of you for your Thanksgiving wishes. I hope you all enjoyed your holidays as well!

Look at my ticker! Under 3 weeks! And we are at 19 days - in the TEENS! I can't believe it.

I have updated my spreadsheet for the changes in park hours and the new crowd levels from TP.

I heard some good news today. I follow a "Live from the Poly" group on Facebook and they said the crowd levels are 7 overall, 9 for Epcot today. But the person who is there said "there is NOBODY here" about Epcot. I hope that's indicative of what we'll get when we're there next month.

20 days until Disney (19) In the pre-show of which of these attractions will you find a little girl holding a Mickey Mouse doll?
a.) Star Tours
b.) The Great Movie Ride
c.) The American Adventure
d.) The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

Okay... I'm going out on a limb and guessing D on your trivia.... that's the only preshow I can picture a little girl with a doll but I was concentrating on not being scared so I'm not sure if it was Mickey... :rotfl:

And as for the picture... chip n dale... AK(?)... and I think that is Hailey... I can't sleep tonight but I'm tired... so my answers may be goofy! :goodvibes

I'm sure you have that syndrome known as "Post Poly Depression". I am not looking forward to that.

That turtle photo is so much fun - and great memories. I just love the candid moments. Especially when the kids THINK they are such grown-ups.

I cannot believe we are at 18 days!

I got a brainstorm to try to book a character meal at Garden Grill (because Katie loves Chip & Dale so much), but I can't access my calendar from my work computer, and I can't access the iCloud to get my reservation number and access my ADRs online. A little frustrating.

I downloaded the best/worst parks info from EasyWDW and I'm considering joining TGM (can't decide if it's worth the 17.95 for me - I don't remember using it much last time, and the Lines App seems to work fine for me). Need to compare one or both of these to what I have from TP. That's on my agenda tonight.

I'll post the trivia, photo and scoring later today. Y'all have a fantastic day!

You have a VERY busy couple weeks!!!

And... a birthday in there!!! :bday: I want to wish you well early since I know that the next couple weeks for me will be very hectic and... I will have already left for WDW and be without internet (I don't have a data plan) on your birthday. So I do hope you have a relaxed and special one! Especially in the midst of all you have planned to get done before the trip! :goodvibes
