Hello All!!!!!

I have been wondering around these boards for the last week or so and I am really enjoying my time here becoming wrapped up in Disney magic. I have not been to Disney in close to 15 years (i am only in my mid 20s) However, me and my girlfriend are planning our first trip together to the world on June 16-24. We have been talking about going to Disney together since we first started dating, which has been over 5 years now, so this trip is long over due and we are both pumped.......

I think it is time to take our relationship to the next stage, and i think it is time to purpose. (Don't worry i know she doesn't read the board so i am safe.)

I have read a lot of posts about peoples ideas and TR of what guys have actually done, and they have really got me thinking. However I havent found the exact fit.

I was thinking of asking the first day we get there, so we can really enjoy our time that week and celebrate the best way possible....in Disney!

First question.....do they have pins for newly engaged couples? if so where can we get them?

Second question.....all the ideas I have seen on here have been great, but none realy work for us...my girlfriend is not a fan of big public displays of affection, so the castle is out, and I do not think we are going to the poly anytime that trip so I dont think going to their beach would work....and i don't think getting a photopass cameraman taking our pictures as we do it would work, besides I am planning to get one of those cds...so if we dont have the actual proposal in pictures we could get plenty of pictures throughout the week so i am not worried about that.

We are going to California Grill one night, she wants to see the fireworks from there, is that a good option? is that crowded?

I was also thinking i could get Disney to decorate the room and surprise her with that and do it right when we walk into the room after we check in...

Again, these are all just rambling thoughts I have and was hoping for some input...I want this trip to be magical, and I want her to feel special and important and loved, but I also want to make sure she will be comfortable during the whole process.

I cant think of any better place to pop the question, we have been talking about this trip for so long, i really want to make it memorable

(FYI i know she will say yes, she has been hinting around the idea for months now)

Any help would greatly be appreciated, I wanted to post this early so I have plenty of time to discuss this and plan things if i need to do that

thank you so much in advance! :goodvibes:dance3::yay:

First question.....do they have pins for newly engaged couples? if so where can we get them?

There are Just Engaged buttons available - you can get them everywhere, MK guest relations, most stores should have them, your hotel concierge, if you can't get them you can get We're Celebrating pins then they can write Engagement on them for you

It's almost safe to say that if you pop the question in any park in any public type place someone is bound to see, and may make it a bigger more public deal than your almost DF would like. You can do horse drawn carriage rides at Port Orleans Riverside, maybe during or after this?

We are going to California Grill one night, she wants to see the fireworks from there, is that a good option? is that crowded?

We watched the fireworks from the balcony when we were there last time and it was soooooo romantic I loved it :lovestruc DF was going to propose to me while we were there but his divorce hadn't come through yet so we had to wait hehehe

I was also thinking i could get Disney to decorate the room and surprise her with that and do it right when we walk into the room after we check in...

This can be done but not as soon as you arrive. Disney Florist can organise in room celebrations but I've not heard of any straight after check in - it's usually the next day so the room allocation has been done correctly etc etc.

Again, these are all just rambling thoughts I have and was hoping for some input...I want this trip to be magical, and I want her to feel special and important and loved, but I also want to make sure she will be comfortable during the whole process.

^^Answers above in Pink

I'm sure you will think of something perfect - have you got a ring yet or will you be choosing one together?? :cloud9:

I had an idea for my friend when he was thinking of proposing to his then girlfriend. I suggested that he take her on the flights of wonder balloon at DTD and proposing when your at the very top. I think the max people allowed is under 15 so its public, but not castle crazy public. Plus imagine the view of the world you get from up there!
The only downturn to it is that you never know if its operating until you get there. they wont run it if the wind is to strong so you do take that chance.

the wishing well by the castle is in a more secluded spot than in front of the castle. Thats a popular place as well.

What resort do you plan on staying at?

If she doesn't like public I think you should do the room idea :goodvibes You could have them put rose pedals on the bed and spell out "will you marry me"

You could have champagne and chocolate covered strawberries, just an example but use stuff she would like.

You will have the whole trip to be in public so if she is not into PDA then I think that is the way to go.

They have "Just Engaged" Pins, like PP said. You can get that at the hotel, guest relations, stores, a lot of places!

DF was going to propose to me at the World when he went at the beginning of this month. Then he got nervous about carrying the ring around the park and through the airport and what not, so he ended up doing it on Christmas Eve. He wanted it to be more intimate and wanted our families to be there and he also knew he would be too nervous/anxious throughout the day on our trip so didn't want to have that on his shoulders!

Do you want it to 100% be in Disney? Since you want it to be more intimate, not into public displays, I would even suggest doing it the morning you leave to go to the airport or the night before you leave. You could do it in a cute way and tell her you forgot to pack something and then go on from there. Then you could spend the whole trip celebrating! :)

If you really want it to be in the World, I would suggest doing a carriage ride through the Campgrounds/Woods, DF and I did that, it was really private and very nice. I think it would be nicer than doing it in the room (depending on which resort you are staying at). CG may still be too many people unless you do it quietly at your table.

Congrats in advance, any way that you choose will be amazing and I am sure she will love it! :)

congratulations on realizing you have found THE one.

June isn't that far away! Wishing you a wonderful trip!

Personally, I think airports are very romantic. Are you flying? Perhaps when you are up in the air you could say something like.... I don't want the feeling of being in the clouds to ever end..... will you marry me?
Or if you are driving, maybe at one of your stops, traveling lifes road with you should continue forever...will you...

Although, I do think having will you marry me spelled out with flower petals would be very romantic.

Also, you may want to consider the importance for her to be close to her family to share the excitement. To some woman it is very important to share that special news in person immediately. To others that is irrelevant.

What ever you decide, you are a very considerate man to make sure she is comfortable with how it happens.

Best of luck!

My husband proposed to me on the main street in Disneyland Paris. I was getting emotional because it was our last night and I didn't want to leave. He pulled me to one side and hugged me and then sort of whispered will you marry me, I looked down at his hands and there was the ring! For all the actual engagement happened in a public place it was incredibly intimate and private. :cloud9:

I do like your in room idea though, perhaps you could have the room all set up for after you've been out for a meal or between you coming in from the parks and going out for a meal? I'm sure your lady will love it. :goodvibes

You can also find more ideas and information on Disney engagements: here.

Good luck and congratulations!

we got our "just engaged" buttons at the guest relations window at the entrance to MK, the guy even asked to see the ring and was appropriately impressed and fawning (to the delight of my fiancee)

we got engaged at the sunset pointe at the Polynesian Resort for the same reason, privacy...I dragged her out there at about 7:45am because I assumed nobody would be around at that hour and all I had to wait for were a group of joggers......also, it gave us a full day of being able to enjoy being newly engaged

I was propsed to in our stateroom aboard the disney wonder. It was so amazing!!!

I'm leaning more towards the room idea. I think decorating it is a perfect idea!!

DCL did a stuff captain minnie, rose petals, champange, and a rose arrangement.

It was so perfect and amazing I'll never forget.

JUST NOTICED- I'll be getting married when you are at the world (on june 18th, 2012)!!!! I have a room block for pop if you need something cheaper than what you got it's $98 per night for our wedding discount. Just PM me.

Good luck!!!

This is SO great!! (I was getting a little teary just reading about your plans!) There are so many options for what you want to do -a walk along the Seven Seas Lagoon in front of the Magic Kingdom, a carriage ride at Fort Wilderness, or even at the north(?) end of the World Showcase Lagoon just as you cross the bridge from Future World. CA Grill gets a little busy the closer it gets to fireworks time, but if you take her outside earlier in the evening, there's usually not too many people out there. Then you can celebrate with a special bottle of wine (if you're into that). I would suggest have an idea of what you'd like to do, but if the moment seems right, just go with it! It will be something that she will remember for the rest of her life. Just make sure someone is nearby afterward so you can catch the time with a picture! Good luck!

My favorite of the ideas you mentioned is the room idea...you couldn't do it the first day as another poster mentioned, but think how fun to come back to your room after a day in the parks and it's all jazzed up and romantic for the two of you??

My boyfriend had roses delivered to our room one day when we were out like 2 or 3 years ago and it's still one of my very favorite memories!!

I also love the CA Grill. It can be crowded, but you can talk to them when you make your reservation if you want and get their help. At minimum you can try to get a table by a window, a little quieter and private, especially if you sit facing more towards the window with your backs more toward the rest o the room. I think at your table with dessert (or appetizers?) would be sweet and romantic...or if you're there when Wishes is on, and you're by the window, you can watch it from your seats and do it then maybe? I think if you tell them you are going for quiet and intimate, they'll try to help you achieve that...early or late seating might be your best bet.

Congratulations on finding 'the one' and the fact that you want to make this special for both of you and that you want to plan ahead tells me you are going to be a good husband; I hope you both will be very happy for many many years to come!!

Wow, i am so totally blown away by how nice and helpful you all are....I will be thinking about all the suggestions the next few weeks and bring her sister into the planning (they are very close)...I am so glad i found the DIS boards....you guys ROCK! :)

You could always use what my fiance did. Behind Port Orleans Resort there is a river and they have carriage rides. Although there were a couple people watching once they realized what was happening... It was very quiet and romantic. My fiance proposed with a glass slipper on a pillow of white carnations, a tiara, and roses. We then took a 45 min carriage ride by ourselves along a shaded brick path along side the river. I wouldn't want it any other way. We got the magic of Disney and romance!!! We then stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge and went to a romantic dinner at Jikos.
Good luck!!!!

Congratulations and good luck! I just back from my honeymoon at Disney World a week ago! I would have loved to have gotten engaged at DW, but it just couldn't happen that way. Here are some ideas:

The Plaza Rose Garden next to the castle. It is not directly in front of the castle or up against it, so it isn't so crowded. We walked through together and it was so beautiful. Roses of all different colors, pink, red, yellow, peach, very romantic!

You'd be surprised as to how many intimate moments you can have while being in such a busy public place. If she doesn't like PDA, then how about picking a different park other than Magic Kingdom? Do you two particularly like any of the countries in EPCOT? You could propose to her in say, Italy and then talk about how you'll see the actual country on your honeymoon. Same thing with Animal Kingdom or Hollywood Studios. If she loves a certain animal, you could do it while looking at them.

Hope you find the perfect way to pop the question!

I love the glass slipper idea. Did you get that at WDW?
I just found out LAST NIGHT that my future son-in-law wants to propose to my daughter on our family vacation that's in 4 weeks. She has no idea.
After I began to breathe again  he asked me to help with the preparations. They will not be staying together, so room decor is out. We will arrive late, so he will do it first thing the next morning. We are driving so I guess I'll have stuff mailed so she won't see it.
I'd love some more ideas. She is 19, he's 21, and I promised not to cry the whole time, but I'm going to :sad1: Happy Tears tho.
Please give me more ideas or point me to a thread with them. I'm going to have to get it all together in a hurry. Hubby & I will send them back for their honeymoon, but I want to make the engagement memorable.
Thanks,
~~g.
