A Love Affair With Us And The DxDP (W/Pics): 7/13: Snacks! Pg. 12

Congratulations, and great reviews! So sorry to see how your California Grill meal ended up. I have to say, I love the food there (it's my second favorite sig behind Artist Point) but I've begun sticking more to the apps and sushi. I will say I had an amazing snapper entree with fig risotto there, and the chicken is usually perfectly cooked, so I don't know why the entrees seem inconsistent.

Our sushi is what will make us go back! :lmao:

And thank you very much for the congrats!

Oh when you started with those amazing apps I was thinking we were in for a review of a lifetime, I'm so sorry that Cali Grill ended on such a sour note.
I must say that it all looks delicious so on my end I'll just pretend that is was out of this world perfection.

 It wasn't horrible, it just wasn't good, ya' know? :confused3 And for 2 dining credits, I just hoped it would be better.

It's a shame you didn't enjoy your meal. It seems that the CG can be a hit or miss for us.

I'm trying to imagine one bride carrying another drunk bride over her shoulder at WDW. :rotfl:

We're both sort of tiny-ish. It wouldn't have been pretty. :rotfl2:

Congratulations!!! :goodvibes

I'm loving reading your reviews.... your meal at tony's looks so good!! too bad about Cali Grill. (that was one we were thinking about trying... I might pass now) .. I can't wait to read more !!! :yay:

Thank you!

wow _ awesome pics! Congrats on your marriage! (sneaked over to your pics on the community board). Thanks for taking the time to review - looking forward to more.

We stayed at bwi last year and had the luck of being at the very very very end of the hallway. It was quiet though.

We were literally 4 rooms or so off of the elevators. That helped so much with the whole fatigue factor thing. :rotfl2: That was our actual room request: "Near the elevators!" :lmao:

 You're a good egg, T....

...but after that review, I think I'll pass.

I may have an alternate recommendation for ya'. :)

Noooooooo!!!! Not Cali Grill! :headache: The one meal I'm so looking forward to. :guilty: I wonder if it's too late to change it to Artist Point. :scratchin:

I'm sorry your dinner wasn't perfection. At least you had wonderful company. :goodvibes

Wait a few reviews. Maybe you'll change your mind!

:lmao: Right? I'm about to pass on it, too.

I don't want people to think we wouldn't eat here again! We would. We'd just be pickier and wouldn't do the dining plan here.

You could booze it up in the wine room with David and have a fabby time! Just hold on to the wall when you're out there during Wishes. :teeth:

My last meal at Cali Grill was unmemorable as well. Took my niece to celebrate her graduation and while the service was excellent as yours was, the food was nothing to get excited about. We were NOT on the DP and it was definitely not worth what we paid for it. For that kind of money, I want to be talking about that meal a year later. By the next day we had forgotten what we ordered.

We had been twice before years ago (pre-dining plan) and I can still remember how excellent the filet was, the potatoes and the desserts! To me, Cali is one of those places that has lost quality since the dining plan has entered the picture. I know, people love the DDP and save a lot of money on trips using it. However, it saddens me that once AMAZING dining is now just "meh".

I agree.

I wonder if the leftovers leave the same impression? :confused3

:lmao:

And I am SO very glad that we didn't pay for this OOP.

You mean it changes? Oh holy moly! SCORE!
I guess they do change it because I never saw the cheesecake you had on the menu. :confused3 anyway it was delicious. :lmao:

Sorry you didn't like your meal at CG. Me and my partner ate there in October and it was delicious. I had the filet and it was perfect. Maybe you had an off chef that night? Those drinks looked so good.

CONGRATULATIONS on your marriage!!!

What a wonderful way to spend a honeymoon to really start the wedded bliss off on the right foot!

I'm so sorry to read about your disappointing meal at CG. It's weird, because we enjoyed those two entrees so much last summer. My hubby got the pork, and I think it might be the best entree I have ever tasted in my life. I had the beef, it was cooked to perfection, and I thought the sauce was just right, not overpowering at all. I could see how it wouldn't appeal to everyone. Maybe the person who added the sauce to mine had a lighter hand?

Well, I appreciate your taking the time to write this report and look forward to more!

Actually my filet was cooked perfectly, I just messed up by forgettin' to tell them to forget that dang barbecue sauce. Who the heck puts barbecue sauce on a perfect filet anyway?

And we had eaten such fabulous meals in DC (absolutely delicious pureed potatoes 'n soft shelled crab 'n miso chili sauce salmon at Circle Bistro) that it set the standard a li'l high. :rotfl:

I'd try Cali Grille again, the service was excellent.

Amen.

I've been debating going back to Cali Grill. We haven't been back in years, but figure it's time to give it another try. I'm not convinced. Hmm...

The little boy on the deck sounds adorable!

Oh, and hi  I've been lurking. And congrats!

The drinks were soooooo good.

I may have to figure out that mai tai recipe for home consumption...I'm sure it will take lots of research and tests and trials. :lmao:

Thank you for coming out and saying hello!

Good to see you again. :goodvibes

We both answered at the same time 'n then turned to each other 'n said "I didn't know you were postin'!" :lmao:

I agree.

leftovers are always magical because they remove the necessity for me to actually cook. Unlike you ladies, I'm always looking for a way for someone else to do the hard work for me so I can simply enjoy the results! :rotfl2:

Ah, but just remember we're lookin' for someone on their way to the house that can stop off 'n pick up a loaf of bread to go with that magical meal! ;)

I hear your last day at the University was food!

There was no breakfast for us the next morning...we were not only still full from the night before, but our lunch reservation at Le Cellier was at 12:15 and we wanted to be hungry.

We checked in at the podium outside of the walkway to the restaurant almost right at 12:15 on the dot. Walking in to the restaurant from the heat of June in Florida was one of the best honeymoon gifts we received. :lmao: We were seated within a few minutes.

Our hostess took us to our table in the Alberta section of the restaurant. Forgive me for not remembering exactly what she told us about Alberta, as I was leaning towards heat stroke. Our table was tucked in the corner of Alberta.

Our server, Darcie, greeted us warmly with our menus.

DCWedding736.jpg

She congratulated us on our wedding and shared with us about her hometown of Toronto. She also told us all about the Pride Fest in Toronto (apparently one of the largest in the world), and invited us to visit her country, where equal rights are afforded to all. :goodvibes

UncleR and I each wanted something cool to drink, and we both partook in one of Le Cellier's yummy smoothies.

I got the Niagara Falls smoothie, which is made of mango, and UncleR got the Red Maple, which has Raspberry and Sprite.

Darcie brought us out our smoothies with a basket of the famous breadsticks and butter.

The Red Maple:

The three types of breadsticks included: pretzel bread, sourdough and whole grain. I tried all 3. The sourdough and the whole grain can go away as far as I'm concerned, but I hearted that pretzel bread enough to drown out any bad feelings I had about the man at the table next to us being seated practically in my lap.

Oh, didn't I tell you? In case you haven't heard about Le Cellier, it's...shall we say...cramped. The man's chair from the table next to us literally backed into the side of my leg. Quaint and dungeoness doesn't just do the description of Le Cellier justice, it's downright 100% accurate. But, like I said, the pretzel bread drew my attention away from the man at the next table being too close for my liking.

Darcie came back to take our orders, and here is where something I swear I read on the DIS came back to bite me in the butt. Somewhere here in the dining section I remember reading that Le Cellier's appetizer trio (which has a tomato stack, crab cake AND a serving of cheddar cheese soup) counts as only 1 appetizer on the DxDP. I asked Darcie and she said that no, unfortunately, the appetizer trio would count towards both of our appetizers. Boooo. I wanted to try both the cheese soup and the tomato stack, and figured this is how I could go about doing just that, but alas, it wasn't to be.

Instead, I settled on the tomato stack, which is served with carmelized onions, cucumbers, crumbled blue cheese, and a Yuzu vinaigrette. Even though I wanted to try the cheese soup, it sounded too heavy.

DCWedding743.jpg

Oh my word was it yummy. It was light and refreshing, but packed with so much flavor. Of course, I love tomatoes like most people love chocolate. It was perfect in every way.

UncleR got the roasted duck meatballs, which are served on small onion tartlets with a cherry gastrique drizzled over the top.

DCWedding744.jpg

Again, so much flavor packed into these little nuggets. She enjoyed this very much. About halfway into our appetizers I caught her sneaking peeks at my tomatoes, and frankly, I was peeking back at her duck meatballs.

So, I offered to trade apps with her. Cause we're married now...and I think that's what you're supposed to do. ;)

Her duck meatballs also set my tastebuds flying. They were absolutely delicious, and while not exactly heavy, the taste was very rich. The small portion is perfect for this appetizer.

We were off to a lovely start with this lunch. At some point Darcie made sure we knew that we were allowed to request more of any one or all of the breadsticks. We decided against doing that because we wanted to save room for our entrees...

We've had Darcie as our server, and I loved those duck meatballs! The tart cherry was perfect with the duck.

Hope this lunch ends on a good note - I liked my last meals at LC very much (after a negative lunch in January), but the negative reviews seem to be more common now.

I'm chuckling at your statement "Cause we're married now...and I think that's what you're supposed to do." Ummm....YEP!!! DH and I look at menus with that exact idea in mind!

Thanks for the reviews and congrats on your marriage!

We had the same experience at the CG last October--it was our first time, and we had high expectations. The appetizers were great, and the entrees were...I mean, fine, but sort of "whatever." For that kind of money (we were paying OOP), you're expecting--and deserve, I think--something truly excellent. And to cap it all off our server, while efficient, was strange. We did love the wine room, though.

I think we'll probably go back, but will stick to salads, flatbreads, and sushi. The entrees just seem too unpredictable for that kind of money.

Bummer about Cal Grill! Such an amazing location. To have a nice piece of meat ruined by a sauce makes me sad. :sad2:

Le Cellier looks good so far but honestly, bread and a smoothie would leave me no room for the good stuff; is the pretzel bread that good? I hope you tried the mushroom risotto. Michael makes the best risotto I have ever had. :lovestruc

Loving your review of Le Cellier so far but after Cali Grill I'm almost afraid to hear the rest of it. The Red Maple looks so good and refreshing!

Now I'm craving them!

Being in love means sometimes you give up your last bite of tomato stack...:lovestruc

I agree! For that money I wanted to leave happy rather than indifferent!

I'm almost afraid to ask what it cost you to pay for CG OOP. :scared1:

I only had 1/2 of a breadstick and part of my smoothie. :rolleyes1

Girl, I know how to save room for the good stuff. :rotfl:

I'll be needing Michael's recipe, please and thank you. :teeth:

Don't be scared. It gets better. :cloud9:

The Red Maple was good, but I liked my Niagra better. :thumbsup2

Yep. 8 hours of discussing menus, restaurants and making reservations for guests who don't make reservations before their trip. By 10:30 in the morning I was starving and wanted to have lunch at about 15 different places that we'd talked about.
