A look at the last 10 years of growth at Disney World — and the next 10

In the article, the projection shows a maximum of 11,300 new hotel rooms and 8,900 new time shares. Granted, it doesn't necessarily mean the max will actually get added in the next 10 years (especially with the economy in the next few years), and they don't usually hit the max during a 10 year period.

But my thought is....with the possibility of 20,000 new rooms being added over the years, that might equate to 40,000+ people, assuming only 2 people stayed in each room. Right now, during the times of the year when the current total of rooms(both on and off property) is maxed out, the parks are bursting at the seams with people. On some days they close the gates or parking lots because of reaching capacity. Where would they put another 40,000 people ? It seems to me that if the 20,000 rooms materialize over the years, some sort of fifth major park or something would need to be added to accomodate the added people. One must also assume that as Disney adds rooms on property other hotel companies will add more in the Orlando area. All of these people must be entertained somewhere, and the current slate of parks (from Disney, Universal, etc) can't handle the extra.

Your thoughts?

I still think some version of Disney Sea will come to Florida. Discovery Bay up by Seaworld is great and is doing very well (they're often fully booked) so it could make sense. Just my thoughts. Not based on any insider info!

Forgive me for not being up on what is what...Are Disney Sea or Discovery at Sea World premium price parks, i.e. where you have to pay and additional $150 or something to get in and they limit how many people come in a day? If that is the case, I'd hope not.

That is because they only admit 1000 guests a day . . . . . at Discovery Cove.

Flamingo Crossings is supposed to be an awfully big driver of Disney World’s growth. Reedy Creek says plans for the “value-oriented” lodging-and-retail district at the western edge of Disney’s property account for 42 percent of the projected hotel rooms, 19 percent of the projected time shares (which would be built by third-party developers, rather than Disney Vacation Club) and 74 percent of projected retail and restaurant space.

This has always been a sore point with us. Disney keeps adding hotel rooms and giving away these free meal and free nights at the resorts, and building more DVC resorts. Only problem is, they are NOT expanding the parks, and all of these extra bodies on property certainly do add to the bursting-at-the-seams situation at the parks. :sad2:

DisneySea is not one of those kinds of parks, it's a "regular" park, although I hate calling it that, since it's really the best park Disney has created since the original Disneyland

Most people dont think of jumping out of cars before accidents either
I've always said it is amazing what WDI will create when spending other people's money . . . . .
