A "lock in" on Big Thunder Mountain...

Hello everyone!
I'm so pleased I've found this forum - I've got a few killer questions to ask - hopefully this is the right section of the site to post them (sorry if it isn't)...

Okay, so last summer me and my family went to Disneyland Paris for three days; a Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

On the Sunday night we were in the Main Park, and instead of watching the fireworks from Main Street, a few of us decided to have one last ride on Big Thunder Mountain before they closed off Frontierland for the night.

We got onto the ride after a five minute queue and expected this ride to be our last of the day.
However, when we got off at the other end, people we still walking through the queue area and getting on the ride - so we did the same.

This time there were far fewer people queuing and we got on a train as soon as one arrived.
We pulled back into the station after the ride had finished, and as we did, a couple of people riding began to shout "encore! encore!" - we did the same.

To our amazement the staff attending the ride nodded their heads - looking the happiest I had ever seen them - and to our delight, sent the train around again!
This happened again and again, and by eleven o'clock, when the ride finally closed, we had been around Big Thunder Mountain eleven times!

For those of us who experienced this, the 'lock in on Thunder Mountain' was easily the highlight of the holiday; everybody on the ride had an amazing time that night - for me, it captured the true essence of what the place is meant to be about.

So - my questions are;
1) Has anybody experienced this before?
2) If you have, could you tell me the time, the ride, and which day of the week it was - I'm wondering whether it's just a Sunday night thing, or whether it happens during the week too.

Thank you so much for any help anybody can offer - we're in the process of booking our holiday for the summer and this is definitely going to affect which days we choose to go!

It happened a few times to my family, in February half term a couple of years running, not on any particular night (but certainly NOT Sunday - we used to go midweek). They rode for several times after the Park should have shut - my son remembers 7 rides on one night.

Totally know where I'm going to be Monday night at 7!!!!!!!!! TOmorrow is candlebration night. :)

When we went in 2005, they used to have 'Magic Unlimited' where, on certain rides, you could choose to stay on. This was great! This year, I asked if we could stay on BTM, as nobody was in the queue - one CM said no, so we went to get off, and another CM motioned for us to stay on.:cool1:

this sounds absolutely fantastic. I will definitely be giving this one a go sometime on our next trip.

Oh and welcome to the DIS

I've never been lucky enough to experience so many rides at the end of park hours - it sounds amazing :cool1:

wow 11 times i couldnt even manage it once lol

Wow ~ 11 times! :cheer2: We've experienced this a few times late at night, although never as many as 11!!

Joe, it's happened to us more on our summer trips than winter ones but not on any particular days, I think it's all down to whether the CMs on BTM are in a good mood that night or not! :rotfl2:

That sounds great! I've not experienced it and probably never will but I do think that BTM is an attraction that CMs particularly enjoy working on. I have always noticed a really fun atmosphere around the ride and it seems to be well staffed with lots of chances for interaction between CMs and guests.
Thanks for sharing that little piece of Disney happiness - its always nice to hear about what makes DLRP magical.:goodvibes

That does sound amazing. I've only experienced it on POTC late at night when we rode 5 times in a row!

Ok, read this when I was online last night... and dreamed about it too! Must have spent half my night thinking I was zooming round the ol' mountain! :rotfl2:
That must've been amazing for you! Lucky! DBF said it's happened to him on POTC once, but not sure how many times he went round.

that happened to me on btm a few years ago i can't remember what day it was but it was in the middle of the summer season! we thought it was funny how people were waiting for an hour and a half during the day to get on it once and we waited 5 mins to go round twice hehe

Thank you for everyone's answers, opinions, etc - it looks like we're going to just have to book the trip and keep our fingers crossed!
Sounds great on POTC - I can remember before the films were released you used to be able to get on that ride without any fuss, rejoin the queue and get on within a couple of minutes again! Brilliant times!

Definitely agree that the CMs seem love working on BTM - have to admit, I'd love it too... that or Phantom Manor.
Can't wait to go back now!!

And thanks for welcoming me to the forum everybody!

You're right about POTC though Emma, we did it 3 times in a row and then asked to be able to get off :rotfl2: Mind you as it was closed last visit, we're really looking forward to doing it again. My youngest has done BTM 5 times in a row, but I wimped out after 3. :guilty:

We went during the brief rides unlimited promotion a few years back, not long after the studios had opened, I think it was. We ended up going on the Rock and Roller coaster 15 times one february morning. Just as we had decided that was enough the queues started building, so that was fabulous timing, and my kids still talk about it now.:cheer2: pixiedust:

It is fabulous when stuff like that happens, it's one of the reasons why I love DLP and still want to go even though we have a trip to WDW booked for later this year. I can't wait until march, as I haven't been for 4 years and my friend hasn't been for 10!:cool1:

When I was at Disney in Oct it was a Sat night where they just kept BTM going way after 10pm closing time!! I tinhk we got off around 10.40pm and it was still going!! The only reason we got off we hadn't checked into the hotel as of yet and didn't want to be wandering around aimlessley when we didn't know where we were going - stayed offsite and left our luggage at train station!

Wow I had no idea they did this kind of thing. My DD would've loved that. I can't even bring myself to ride it once though :rotfl2:
