We leave for Orlando on Thursday, and I've been surfing the web looking at stuff ----and found a bunch of reviews that said the POR rooms are musty, the corridors are dirty, etc.

Is this true? Is this worse in some buildings over others? I'm bumming! If I changed resorts, what would you all recommend?

Don't worry! Do a search on these boards and you'll find lots of great comments on POR. We've stayed there a few times and we like it a lot.

P.S.--Welcome to the DIS!

First of all, reviews are just that - "reviews" - opinions from other people and I have figured out that there is no place in the world, that every single person will love.

Last year, we originally did NOT want to stay at POR because I too had read some bad reviews. After our DTD hotel was closed down for renovations, we had no choice, but to stay at POR (by this time all the other hotels were booked full) and let me say one thing: We absolutely loved it!!! My husband is a clean freak and never had a negative word to say about the hotel or our room. Everything from check in to check out was perfect and I can't come up with a single complaint. The hotel room/grounds were spotless and beautiful. We stayed in the mansion section, by the way. We absolutely fell in love with the boat ride to DTD and litterally ended up at DTD every night. We had so much fun there.

This year we are staying at POR again and can't wait! I have learnt one thing from my experience: don't pay attention to bad reviews. You need to try it out for yourself and see if YOU like it! It would be sad if you changed your mind based on other people's opinions and then you would end up regretting it. Good luck with your decision!

I had the same question because we arrive at POR on the 27th!

We've never stayed at a WDW hotel before and so want to be dipped in Disney the whole time. Our only other previous trip we stayed at the Grosnevor and we very much liked the hotel and location and price ($99 a night seven years ago). We got a great package deal that included airfare and hotel this trip.

I am happy to hear happy people liked the POR.

It could be that the reviews you read were written before the POR rooms were renovated. They have all been refurbished quite recently.

I just returned last month from 11 nights at POR and I loved it. My room looked brand new and the grounds etc were immaculate.

I will definitely return to this resort in the future. Don't worry, I know you'll love it! :)

just for the record -- there ARE no corridors at Port Orleans Riverside or Port Orleans French Quarter. Access to all rooms is via outside walkways only. So I definitely wouldn't trust those reviews!

If you look at enough posts you will find negative ones about every Disney resort. There are no corridors at POR. POR is set up like a motel. There are outside walkways. The door to your room will open directly onto this outside walkway. When you check in if you are not happy with the condition of your room contact housekeeping directly. My understanding is that the rooms have all recently been done over. Go relax and enjoy.

"You need to try it out for yourself and see if YOU like it!"

This is always my philosophy until it's a few days away and then I panic!

Thanks for the encouraging words!
