A while ago someone had asked about their child asking where babies come from and a few of you had suggested a book. Well my DS-5 has decided to ask. I personally am blown away that he asked me this question already but I keep hearing that I should just be honest. Could someone please tell me what the book is and is it appropriate for a boy as well.
And while I'm on the subject of books my DD-8 has started spotting:earseek:, my guess is that she'll be starting her menstrual cycles real soon and I've talked to her about it but I know there has got to be a better way for me to explain it to her. How did you guys do it and is there a book for this as well?
Thanks in advance.

I've really liked this series of four books. It presents sex as a gift from God while giving them the birds-and-bees info a traditional book would. I'm sure it's available other places, but I found it at www.christianbook.com

Before I Was Born (Ages 5-8)

Before I Was Born (Ages 5-8)
By: Carolyn Nystrom

Description: Designed for parents to read to their child ages 5 - 8. This book is one of a series designed to help parents shape their children's character, particularly in the area of sexuality. Our children are exposed to many different messages about the nature of sexuality and the place of sexual intimacy in life, through the media, discussions with their friends, and school sex-education programs. God wants parents to be the primary sex educators of their children. And if we are going to have a powerful impact, we must start early to help children understand their sexuality before they learn from other sources. First messages are the most powerful; why wait until your child hears the wrong thing and then try to correct the misunderstanding? God made sexuality, and He made it as a beautiful gift; why not present it to our children and the way God intended? THIS BOOK IS VERY VERY DESCRIPTIVE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN

No help from here on your questions, Lissa, but did want to catch ya and say........hi.

Yup, I bought DS the book "Facing the Facts" as well.

When the older kids were little we had the book "Where did I come from" by Peter Mayle

It was presented in a funny cartoon manner and my kids loved it.

I have a feeling that it might be TMI much for some parents.. but I just loved the book..it was open, honest and funny.

The same auther also has a book called "Whats happening to me".

Heres one of the many links I found for "Where did I come from" so you can see what it looks like....

I can't help you too much with your DD, but I would suggest following your instincts with your son. I think a mistake often made by parents is giving your child too much information too soon. Usually the kids don't want to know that much. Its like the joke about the kid that asks his parents where his friend came from and they explain the whole thing to them and he says that he thought he was from Philadelphia.

You can be honest with him without telling him the whole story. I would explain to him that when a mommy and daddy love each other, God helps put a baby in the mommy's tummy. Then the baby grows there for a while until its big enough to come out and live by itself. Then, you could answer any other questions that he has.

Last year when my sister was having her baby, we were in the hospital waiting and my ds-7 (at the time) asked me how the baby gets out of the mommy's tummy. I didn't feel that he was old enough for all the details, so I told him that the doctor helps and he needed to wait until he was bigger to learn more. That was enough for him and he dropped the subject.

I got DS the book called It's So Amazing! We have read the book together and DS still (at age 8) takes it out to read or ask questions. The book is in cartoon-type form, but the information is accurate and not candy-coated in any way. Here's a link to the book at Amazon, it will tell you all about it. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...103-1196482-9105460?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

As for your daughter, I don't have any girls so I can't give you any suggestions.
