Hi there,

We cruised with Disney last April..and without a word of a lie it was an EXCELLENT experience!! I am certain that the majority of you would be of the same thinking.

My question to you all is...Has anyone ever sailed with Carnival cruise lines..specifically the Glory. We wanted to go back to Disney however for the 3 of us it is over $4400.00 USD without airfare from Canada..so you can imagine that it will be a substanial amount of money.

IS Carnival's children program good, six year old boy? What about their tolerance with children overall? Is the food good? Is the ship nice etc..etc..

Any and all thoughts and sharing of experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

WOW ! Whay so much? It cost my family of 5 less than that this past October for 2 cat 10 staterooms?

As far as Carnival goes, I sailed once when my DH and I went on our honeymoon 11 years ago. I was not impressed, HOWEVER I was young (18) ill prepared, and we went on the cheapest cruise possible, so were many other wild and crazy UNMARRIED just graduated from highschool 18 year olds! LOL

The Glory was docked next to us in Cozumel, and it seemed to be as big as the Magic. It did seem to be an older ship though.

Thanks..hope I receive a few more better reviews..what concerns me is your comment about looking old since this ship apprently began sailing in I believe June or July of 2003.

Thanks again

Really? It has only been sailing since this summer? Maybe I am mistaken, but I am pretty sure it was the Glory docked next to us in Cozumel. And I recall my parents( who are new to cruising) even said that it looked like an older ship to them. Does anyone know for sure?

Amanda, I think there may have been 2 Carnival ships at Cozumel. I think the Glory was moored at a different dock a bit further over.

The Glory was the big ship that left Port Canaveral just ahead of us - very big, smart and new looking.

I'm not sure of the name of the one next to us at Cozumel but I agree it looked old and not a patch on the Magic. We think it may have been the Celebration but we're not absolutely certain. Perhaps someone else will know

Karen

Bumping this post...I am hoping that someone has travelled on Carnival and can 'speak' about Camp Carnival and in particular on the Carnival Glory.

Thanks

Thanks Karen, I knew one of my Halloweiners! would keep me straight! LOL Also bumping post for Vivig again, hopefully someone will chime in. Vivig, have you ever looked over at www.cruisecritic.com ? They also have some forums, and you may get a better response about Carnival line over there :-)

The Glory is a new ship. Our daughter didn't like the Carnival program but that was on the Imagination which is one of the older ships ('95). The Glory is in the family of the Pride & Legend I believe, I don't think it is a Destiny class their largest size ship. Our TA had told us Carnival is doing a better job but it still is not Disney. Thanks Amanda!!

Interesting facts...I guess I am back to square one.

I greatly appreciate all the efforts and help you have provided.

Thanks again and have gr8 evening:):)

Vivig,

I am also from Canada. I have booked thru a TA for cat. 11 for the 5-day Disney Wonder cruise for March 2003 and it costs us only US $ 2100.

You can also try to book air tickets at expedia and it costs us more than $ 70 cheaper for each ticket than we can book thru a TA. We believe the whole trip will cost us less than CDN $ 6000.

We have also considered the 7-day Glory. But after tons of hours of research we decided to go for Disney.

Think about it.

Vivig, We were just on the Sensation in Sept., our DD, 3 yrs old, had a great time. The kids colored, made crafts, played games, did a scavenger hunt as pirates and watched cartoons. There was even one afternoon she turned down going to the pool to stay with the rest of the kids. My DD is very outgoing and likes to meet new friends.
Two things about Camp Carnival that are definitely different from what I've read about Disney, 1) Camp Carnival closes for about a hour during the first dinner seating. This wasn't a problem for us as we wanted our DD to have dinner with us. 2) There really isn't a lot of activities scheduled after 10:00. It's CCL's babysitting time, which is only $6/hr, they want the kids to watch a movie and go to sleep. Our DD didn't care for this and we had to pick her up.

On to the Glory, definitely one of the newer CCL fun ships, commissioned in 2002. We almost booked our next CCL on the Glory, but opted for the Destiny instead (just because of the itinerary). So far of the 3 CCL trips we've made, all the ships have been very nice. Food has been fine. And there has been plenty to do. We even won a "solid gold, plastic, ship on a stick" one time. Art auctions, trivia contests, bingo, nightly shows, plenty of live music.

One down side, but you won't have a problem with this on the Glory since the itin is a 7-day, CCL seems to put their newer employees on the shorter cruises. Our Sept. was a 5-day, and we weren't as impressed with our cabin steward as we usually are, and our wait staff was moderate to good. Not near the caliber of the staff we've had on our 7-day cruises with CCL.

Hope this helps. -Mike :wave2:

The Glory just started sailing in June or July--like you said. I have friends who sailed the first week in Sept. (a group of about 20) and they LOVED it. No young kids w/ them, though so can't answer any of those questions. I watched the ships leave from the port the first weekend the Glory sailed and it's huge. Sorry I can't be of any more help but just wanted to let you know they had a blast.
