I wouldnt have believed it if I hadnt seen it first hand. It was my daughter.

She went in line two times today, the first time she got her pin put up for trade and could see the grand californian pin in the trade window and. and. and.

you know...

DC LOL :)

so she got back in line a while later. and it was her turn. she put up her only good pin she had, (yeah not so great but quest) the adventureland quest pin.

and then i was in awe. she was told.

I only trade for good pins

i was like... wow...

so i typed for her to make it quick thinking no problem here.

I typed back.

I dont have any other good pins

This is quest mind you, the pin you have to visit the park to get! the reason the entire game was supposedly created, to get more people into the parks.

then it happened.

"Sorry"

window closed.

This is not a pity thread LOL, I mean Dad took care of the problem as I gave her a grand californian pin. and I learned my lesson too LOL I will make sure that kid has a few good pins on her at all times now!!!

but it shocked me that this happened. This to me meant that alot of the younger players who spend every credit they have on a crate for their rooms might not have a prayer of getting a trade during the event.

It also bothered me that the pin was put up earlier but my daughter dc'ed before the trade could be completed.

oh well... vent over LOL :)

Oh Aengus - I am so sorry to hear that. I learned from the heartbreak of the Halloween Maze that my girls will NOT participate in a VMK event/Staff Game, unless Mom has tried it first. If I am successful and fear no tears, the girls can do it (like the maze last weekend). Hence, why Mom spent Saturday in the Swap Monster event - instead of cleaning and doing laundry. :thumbsup2

As for the pin, I have heard them discount that quest pin and other quest items. The value attached is that a trip was part of that item - somehow somewhere - so it is worth the same value. At least I would think so. :stir:

How sad! This is what I really dislike about having to keep our ages a secret in VMK. That trade might have looked much more reasonable if the person knew they were trading with a kid. Then again, the person may have just been unwilling to trade no matter what. Note, I'm not suggesting we should be able to list our ages on VMK, I'm just carping about one of the negative results of not being able to do so.

I would have gladly made that trade. I need the quest pin and other quest items. Would your daughter be interested in trading the quest pin for a Monster's Inc. pin (the one that's in Emporium right now) or a Snowman Magic? I like to trade with kids and do my best to make trades that are in their favor. I think I have some extra costume pieces and I definitely have rooms with Halloween and Christmas stuff. Just let me know if she/you would be interested in trading and we can meet up in VMK.

Oh aengus, I am so sorry that happened to your daughter. The exact same thing happened to me. I tried to trade a quest pin, thinking that it was one of the more valuable pins I had, after all it was quest! I certainly wasn't trying to get by on the cheap. Phinny refused to accept it and before I could put up another (a more common, Hotel pin) I dc'ed too. I was shaking my head in disbelief. And I remember how dissappointed I (a grown woman) was. I can only imagine how devistated your daughter must have been.

I hope you send a letter to the black hole letting them know what happened. I did, and I asked them that if there are specific trading parameters that perhaps they should have them listed somewhere.

Glad you had a back up pin to fill the void for your daughter! That's a really good Dad! :thumbsup2

That's defienetely something that they need to warn people. The first trade with a staff is unnerving. They have no rules on how or what to trade. People think they have to give REALLY good pins to get something. But staff will take any pin that was just released the day before. How is anyone supposed to know that?! So i'm so sorry aengus. Phinny knew she couldn't waste time but it was unfortunate it had to happen to a child!

thanks all! I just needed to vent LOL and qruthie that is very nice of you, but I traded her a californian pin for her quest pin LOL :) so now she really has nothing to trade woot!

I have not written to them yet, i wanted to be calm. and btw the good news is this didnt bother her a bit. it just bothered dad LOL, i was quick to tell her that i would take that trade, so everything was ok.

big time.

Your response about that pin carrying EXTREME value because of how it's obtained was on the money! However, staff should take a yeti pin if it's presented, for there's NO magic in NO.

Walt's probably rolling in his cyrogenic chamber.

We had a similar thing happen during Halloween with the candy cauldron. I wrote a letter to vmk about what happend and the cauldron appeared in my son's inventory.

Same thing happened to me, i offered up a Master Gracey pin and was turned down. Seems, because the Master Gracey pin was handed out by staff or won in a game they attached no value to it. Same thing could be said for the quest pins. If the pins were not purchased using credits from the game they hold no value in the trade rooms. Amazing isn't it?

My kids learned within a few days not to trade. Luckily it wasn't a big deal trade but they guard their magic pins with their life. God forbid they wear their costume pieces. (We've been on the pirates tour.) I am sorry to hear this happened to your children. I agree with parents supervising events. It's cutthroat out there!

This i totally agree with you hit the nail on the head here.

Walt's probably rolling in his cyrogenic chamber.

And this part is just plain hilarious and probably true LOL

I agree that a little note to the black hole is in order. however it probably wont do any good but you can try and it does not hurt to try.

I had the same thing happen to me!! It was HOST_Phinny and this wasn't the first time it has happened either. She has denied my rare stuff many times and I am disgusted and sick of it. I waited 45 minutes and crashed behind 108 people, then went back and waited behind 112 and offered her POTC Insider Tour Pin and she said "not rare enough" and I said "excuse me this is quest" and she said "sorry" and CLOSED!!! So I scolded her in the room and said "excuse me that was very mean Phinny" and she BOOT.

She also turned me down for a Yellow Soldier, I offered her a pirate stool with no stick and she wanted the "other part" to it. I think she is very greedy and tries to scam players for the rare stuff. I am a teenager but think about the little ones, they don't know any better and get upset. Least to say, HOST_Annie gave me a Yellow Soldier for just a Green Soldier, no questions asked. Sorry to rant, but I was very upset that I even cried.

Forget the black HOLE, they never reply so I am going straight to Sulake US and Finnish Headquarters to file a report against her poor service skills Enough is enough, I pay good money to visit the parks and don't need to be scolded by staff over a pin event. I agree there is NO magic in NO!

I am also new to this board and have left the fan site due to too many darn rules and censorship. You can't say anything on that board and I got sick of it!!

Aengus, that is horrible. I am really dissapointed that VMK would not take the pin. I know how frustrated I was that I got disconnected eight times. I can't even imagine being turned away.... horrible!

I'm glad I was warned last night to buy more hotel pins, because if I hadn't,
I probably would have been just as disappointed.

As it is, if I don't try to get into the event the moment the room opens,
I won't be able to participate at all. :(

Disvaclub mentioned Halloween's events, the worst frustration I've had in this game. I was really steaming mad that I couldn't stay connected for either
event.

Your post was exactly what should not be done in a VMK sponsored event.

I don't think that disgusted is a strong enough word.

My signature is dedicated to this thread! lol

My son waited 6 times in line yesterday. Lost connection fives times and kept pursuing the pin. He finally gets a trade window open and it dawns on him that he is wearing his Hotel pin. He didn't know what to do. Started to panic and type "I wearing it" knowing he would have to close the window and start over. And knowing that he could get dc at any second or the Host would not let him close the trade and start over. So he put his Everest pin in the window and the Host let him trade. He was ecstatic that he didn't have to get in line again. So some good things do happen! :)

The first time I got through before I even knew of this forum to research what goes on in there, I thought you would trade any pin to them and they would be nice. I actually got laughed at. She literally typed "Lol" and "Don't you know how little that pin is worth?" She immediately closed out the window then booted me. This was the particular staff member whom I have noticed can be rude and snippy to people. There is another one who is nice and friendly.

I thought a pirate insider pin would be good too, so I tried that the only other time I got in the trade. The response I got was a single "nope," and given how mean the other staff member was I thought that was kind of her not to boot me then and there. I had learned my lesson fast and I had a 500 credit equivalent pin to trade when they rejected the pirate pin! Personally I thought given what a fortune it costs to go to Disney, the pin you get from going there should have been worth a lot! But obviously they go by "resale value" in the game.

BTW, I am surprised kids have the patience to go through all that without all ending up in tears. The constant dc is bad enough. On their schedule sometimes they describe the event as "a fun game," but where's the fun in waiting in long time-intensive queues where you will almost certainly dc before even getting a shot at the end game, whether it be a trade, spin, or whatever, and then having to put up with rudeness in the room either from a frazzled staff member (to put it kindly) or pushy guests?

I can't stand all the rude messages to "Move!!!!" like they don't realize some ppl get stuck and are trying their best to move. Personally for some reason with my connection I can't always move one space at a time, and when the other ppl crowd up on you so there are not two spaces to move, you get stuck and really don't need the rude comments on top of it! Or they freak out that you left a space in front of you and make rude comments, and as soon as you move they are pushing up on you. I would hate to be in traffic with any of those ppl! They like to cut in front of you at every opportunity too, which does not bode well for when they get their driver's licenses! Well thanks for letting me vent :)
