In reading some of the posts lately, I have become a bit troubled by people who seem to want to recite "disney policy", and claim to know what is right and wrong when doing certain things....an example of this would be some of the responses to the recent post on having 5 people in a one bedroom, and the lenghty post on refillable mugs.

I must say that I take the approach that I try to get as many breaks price wise as I can, if that means staying five to a one bedroom and the front desk does not hassle me about it that is fine....if that means bringing my WL mug back numerous times and getting a free drink here and there i do this as well....Is this "fair" as many people have asked.....In my opinion it is as fair as charging $5 for a tuna sandwich, or $80 on a meal for a family of 3.

I know many may think this post trivial. but i needed to get this off my chest. I think certain people who try and gain a financial advantage any where they can, are more then offset by the financial advantage Disney gives itself with its policies and pricing.

dont get me wrong...I am a very happy DVC member....but i am also one who understands that there is a game played here, and those who are smart can often save a buck or two, and I dont think this is something to feel bad about.

I understand your frustration and I also like to save a buck or two. But playing the devil's advocate (don't really want to start a debate here) by putting 5 people in a room could actually cost you and everyone in the long run.

If the front desk allows you to put 5 in a room that is supposedly only suppose to occupy 4 then eventually there will be additional wear and tear to the units. This will ultimately increase everyones maintenance dues. I have a family of 5 and would love to use the 1 bedroom to save on points, but I realize that any additional members no matter how big or small will take its toll on the room.

As far as charging $5 for a tuna sandwich being fair, well of course it is. Every business is going to get the most from there product. When you pay that $80 on the meal for 3 at Disney, you're not only paying for the food, but also the waiter, the cooks, the electricity, and then you go as far as paying for the theming of where your eating, the characters, I could go on and on. Granted, I could get a decent buffet outside the park for probably half of what I'm paying at Disney, but would that be as enjoyable?

I think not...

Most of the people on this board have found numerous ways of saving money on their trip without potentially costing everyone else in the long run. I for one have saved literally hundreds of dollars thanks to codes that I found out about on this board before I became a DVC member. And I also found out how to buy a resale using negotiating skills others have used to find a reasonbly priced DVC interest.

There are other ways then trying to beat the system...

I think we should all have a good idea of the rules and follow them as much as possible. The 5 in a studio/1 BR issue is tough because DVC has been very lax in enforcing the rules and have added dramitically to the confussion by telling many it's ok. I think most of use try to play within the rules to get what advantage we can, not outside them. I know a lot of people try to bend the rules like the FL residency issue. I have no problem with a person with 5 in a room as long as they aren't bothering others. However, I am very unhappy with DVC for not enforcing the rules and to actually be adding to the "problem". What the sales staff tell potential or new members is irrelavant but I think the front desk staff and DVC MS must be more clear about the rules including going over the stated occupancy.

To me, breaking the rules because it's to your advantage is dishonest and that makes one that does it a dishonest person. Again, the 5 in a 1 BR/studio is different because many have been told it's ok by the people that are in a situation to enforce it so I do not see those following the advice of MS as dishonest.

It is a moral dilemma. Just because you don't like something and you can cheat your way around it to feel better does not make it right. Wrong is wrong. Per person occupancy, meal costs, etc. are established for a reason. Don't like it? Vote with your feet and go elsewhere. Remember what your mother said..."Just because everyone else is doing it does not make it right." She was correct.

If we selectively choose to obey rules then there is chaos. I also don' think the analogy of comparing food prices to rules is a good fit. Buying somethign is a choice. When you buy into something you buy into it's rules.

dont get me wrong...I am a very happy DVC member....but i am also one who understands that there is a game played here, and those who are smart can often save a buck or two, and I dont think this is something to feel bad about.

Using this logic, if I want money and I rob a bank I shouldn't feel bad?

Ladies and Gentlemen,

This discussion is quickly leading to a personal attack fest. In addition, it is not related to ownership in a DVC resort or the features of a DVC resort. If you wish to continue a debate of moral issues, please do it on the debate board.

Thank you
