Just thought I would share a truely magical experience that we had the pleasure to enjoy at wilderness lodge during our October trip last year.
We had booked a 6pm ADR @ Whispering Canyon, this is a regular for all our trips, the children love the atmosphere and we love the food so it works great all round.
Anyways, we were allocated a table in the rear area of the restaurant, for those of you that are not too familiar with the seating arrangement, the main area of the restaurant is where all the "entertainment" takes place, ie horse riding, ketchup shouting etc.. They also have a seperate section which is away from the main restaurant. I understood this to be for families/couples which wanted to experience the food but not so much the loudness of the restaurant
fun.
When we were been shown to our table I explained to our host that I didn't
wish to be seated "out the way" but was advised that this was the only table for 6 for the next hour, at least. We decided to take the table but it was
eating me away throughout the meal so decided to ask to speak to the
manager. Within 2 minutes he was at our table, I explained our situation, that
I had requested a move to the host etc.. I went on to explain that I had
visited this restaurant on a number of occasions and it had very much spoilt
our experience, and that we were due to go home shorty and consequenty I had no space to re-arrange. The manager couldn't have been more apologetic, and explained that my booking was down on the ADR system as 6 adults, hence allocating us in the quiet section. The manager asked me what I wanted him to do to make it up to us and I explain that I didn't want anything, but just wanted him to recognise for future guest, that the restaurant is all about the overall experience, especially when you have young children and that we should have been asked rather than a presumption made that we wanted to be segregated.
It was discussed very amicably and we parted after a friendly chat about which fireworks we were going to go view that night.
However, this is when the magic begins, firstly we received a full 12" cake with 3 buzz lightyear glow stick and 1 tinkerbell all stuck into this beautiful cake
Then just as we were getting our things together to leave our server came up to us and said the manager understood we couldn't decided which fireworks to view, she said that if we meet a member of Wilderness Lodge near the lifts at 8.45 he would help us chose. We was all puzzled, but excited. So off we trot to the lifts to be greeted by a CM who was waiting for us. He explained that the manager had wanted us to leave WL with a good memory in light of the problems we had at dinner.
The CM continued to take us all the way up to club level, then through a "secret door" as it was described to us, then up a further 4 flights of stairs until we got to the roof to of the WL. Words cannot begin to explain how beautiful the view was, then 9 o'clock on the dot the fireworks started to our left Wishes, to our right Illuminations.
It truely was a priceless experience and reminded us all how extreme Disney will go to make their guest happy.
