A limit to helpfulness?

After reading about this new gold star thing Yavn's going to be doing for VMKers helping each other, it got me wondering, is there anything you won't do to help?

Personally, I try to help out as much as I can, but I've gotten fed up with starting a game of HM with someone, only to have them ask a minute into the game "How do you play?" I rarely ever type anything, even "gl", not because I don't want to wish someone good luck, but because it's impossible to concentrate on the game and type at the same time. The first couple times someone asked me how to play HM, I gave them about as brief yet concise of an explanation as I could, but now I just say "Read the instructions", because they're right there in the lobby. It's hard to miss them, people are just too lazy to use them.

What's really weird is that I've never had anyone ask that in the Pirates game, only HM.

I refuse to give people stuff when they say I am poor. I am sorry, but I think that people should earn their own items. I know that I had to and I think that they should too. Sometimes, when a person is nice though I will give them something, but not if they beg and complain about having nothing.

I also do not like to let people win. Once I am in a game, I am there to win. However, if you ask before the game starts, I am more than willing to help you. But I often find that people start saying that they are on a quest after they are losing.

Other than that, I try to help as much as I can. Though sometimes I am just as confused as the next person. :)

When the new car quests came out - I managed to fly through the frist 2. So many players were asking for help - confused - or truly needed help. I stopped working on car quests. ("They'll be there tomorrow and the next day.") I spent the rest of the day and the next day helping other players get their first car.

It was fun. I enjoyed their excitement. It was a way to give back for all those ppl who helped me get to where I have grown to in vmk.

The next day - vmk changed the yellow and green car quests. The green car is completely and totally out of my range. Not even within - I will work on it - range.

So, basically, my taking a few days to help others, cost me ever having a green car. Am I sorry I helped people? NO Do I think VMK should tell us - say 48 hours notice - before they make major changes like that - yes.

Anyway - that was my limit to helpfulness story. I suppose I dont have a limit. And it has cost me.

There is no green car in "my vmk." Never cared much for green anyway. :)

One side-note: Friends and I have stood on the mansion steps for HOURS sometimes helping others with quests. Those have been some of my most enjoyable days in VMK. Honest.

Um, yes, I do have my limits. I often gift things to random people. Just for the heck of it. Usually, they want to be my friends. So I say yes. They come to me for help, sure no problem. It's when they bring their friends to me and their friends expect me to give THEM something! "No good deed goes unpunished!"

I help people on quests, I show them things, I wish them a good day, whatever is needed, but don't beg me for stuff! Oh it drives me right up the wall!

If someone comes into my TRADE room and starts immediately with "can I have free?" they get booted immediately. I have no patience for beggars. I do often make "not in my favor" trades, but like was said above, no good deed goes unpunished because they come back and try to trade skull rock items for rare items, and bring their friends. I also do not ever complete a trade where a deal has been worked out and the person cancels the deal and says "wait can I have that too" - the trade window then gets cancelled immediately and if the person persists, boots happen.
