A Journal to bust a plateau!

but I really wasn't too bad. It just felt like a lot of food. or maybe it was a lot, I never really know until I journal it. I feel so inspired because two ladies I've been posting with on another thread both met their weight loss goals today...congrats to daisyduck123 & lmo429...they are almost on their way to WDW (I'm jealous).

Lets see today was a little bit of cottage cheese for breakfast, made me want to yack! Cottage cheese without crackers is not for me. That won't be happening again anytime soon. So then I had my Atkins protein drink and two cups of coffee: a grand total of 6 carbs.

Lots of water, and then a WW veggie meal: I thought I was being good but turns out it had 9g of carbs...I won't be eating those again. I think its important to stick with the whole foods that I prepare for this anti carb drill. I had it with water, so that was pretty good.

For dinner I got a steak & cheese sub with mushrooms and peppers, scooped the meat out of the bread (very carefully, no hidden carbs wanted); and then I had 3 Russell Stover Toffee candies for a grand total of 4.6g carbs (I think...but if I'm wrong, don't tell me). Follow that with a cup of coffee with 1g carb (from the creamer) and I'm done for the day.
Drum roll, please::: 20.6 grams carbs...I went over by .6g and I don't feel bad about it. No, I don't. I needed those Russell Stovers, and I enjoyed them.

Jamie, thats a great idea of putting a picture of the bathing suit on the fridge! I'm going to do that...I've got my eye on a cute little tankini number in the Lands End catalog. I could mess with my kids by cutting out a picture of a Victoria's Secret bathing suit, and gluing a pic of my face on it...

How motivating is that!? but then again, if I put that on the fridge, probably my kids wouldn't eat...thank you for your kind words of support. You have no idea how much they mean! :goodvibes

Have a great evening and good luck to everyone with your weight loss goals!!

Hi there,

Your food looks good, I don't think you did bad at all. And good for you for not worring about that .6 over. It's not that big.

I actually cut out a copy of a really cute bathing suit from Victoria Secrets and put that on the fridge. To hold her up, I put a Daisy Duck (magnet) over her face!!!! LOL. My dad made me some Disney magnets, so she is on the models face. My DH laughs at me each time he opens the fridge!!! I don't care though, it helps me not get in there when I want something bad!

Keep up the good work!!!!

Have a great day :)

Hi Wendy: omigosh, cake made almost entirely of chocolate?! Well I would call that a slice of heaven! Do NOT post the recipe! :goodvibes Thanks for the tip on the rice noodles...what a great idea. We're in induction phase right now, but when these 2 weeks are up, I'll definitely try those. Yum, and I hadn't thought of the spaghetti squash, either. Great suggestion! A friend also suggested today that we try using Portabello mushrooms instead of bread for burgers, or sandwiches. Have you ever tried that?
I hope you have a great week, too! Enjoy your run with the pooch.

Oh Yeah! I have heard of the mushroom for bread. Had a friend that loved doing that. At that time I wasn't even considering eating healthy, so never tried it. I love portobellas too. I should try it. With in the induction stage, you really are denied alot, but I really think it helps to get you thru the 'withdrawal' stages. Don't you agree?

Ok, I won't post the reciepe, which is probably good since there are quite a few calories in a slice. There is cream, butter and eggs along with chocolate. That is it. I took some in to the sec'y at work, and she just about fell over. Had to give her the reciepe. She watches what she eats, but knows reality sometimes just has to jump in!

Ok, another run with the pooch. DD is finishing homework, so I will probably go alone. Well, I make take The Phantom to listen to with me. He is always good for a 'fast' walk! Got to keep those body parts that like to wiggle from getting worse!:rotfl2:

Wendy

Happy Thursday everybody! Hope everybody had a good day...

Jamie, LOL about the VS cutout on the fridge...my dh would laugh at me too! But whatever works, right? We'll reach our goals. I hope you're doing great with your weight loss, too. Do you have a journal as well?

Hi Wendy: That cake does sound good...yum. And the butter, eggs & cream: those are on my diet! Just that pesky chocolate, but sometimes it IS worth it, right? When you say, "The Phantom," do you mean the soundtrack to the play? or the old radio program? I just inherited by dd's mp3 when she upgraded to an iPod, so I'm looking for things to put on it that will motivate me to exercise. Right now I'm walking to Madonna's Confessions on a Dancefloor, and thats kind of fun.

Ok, to brass tacks for today:
Breakfast was the Atkins protein drink..in chocolate, which is mucho better than the Caramel Vanilla in my opinion. Noticed when I got home that dd thought so, too. She scarfed down two of these today! Just one for me, and one cup of coffee with my sugar free cream. Thats a whopping two points for breakfast.

At lunch I ordered a small steak & cheese (I'm so craving red meat lately, which grosses dd out...we haven't had red meat in this house for 2 years in support of her boycott) but lately I've been having to order it! She is most disappointed. A bottled water. I don't think this had any carbs at all, because I do NOT eat the bread, not even tiny pieces. Don't want it.

I had a dentist appt today which really kind of hurt, so when I got home I went straight up to bed. Slept through dinner, but dh made me a plate of mini meatballs & portabello mushrooms & peppers, so I picked at that when I woke up. Another bottled water and I'm ready to call it a day.

I'm not hungry at all, and really have no cravings. As a matter of fact, I think I'm so uninspired by the foods I'm eating, that I'm just not thinking about it at all. I'm kind of looking forward to weigh in on Saturday. How weird is that?!!

HI there,

Good for you for making good choices while out to eat. That is a tough one for me. I have a hard to doing well while eating out!!

I do have a journal, I try to post in it each day, most of the times I don't make it on the weekends...too busy!!!!

Keep up the good work! You are doing a great job!!!

Have a great day :)

Beth, it is the soundtrack to the most recent movie. It is nice to listen to. Very romantic. Also, the soundtrack to the movie Moulin Rouge is good. Do you have any disney soudntracks from the theme parks? If you don't, I have several I can burn onto cd and send your way. Just let me know.

Oh--in case it might be confusing, the photo in my siggy is DS and GF on their prom last week. I don't know how to put it in any other way. I just am not that internet savvy. Should have DS help, but he is on a band trip to Chicago, to see Wicked, BLue Man Group, and Pat Henesy(?) with the senior and junior band and choir. They are bussing it. It always worries me when they bus, because once, while going to Chicago, they had a bus accident, and my child was the only one standing, coming from rest room, and went flying and had a severe enough concussion that dr says no more contact spots forever. There were a few stitches, a broken bone, and lots of bruises. The second bus ran into the front bus. Go figure.

Oh-if and when you are able to enjoy chocolate again, for a special occassion or such, just let me know. The cake is WONDERFUL!

Well, enough babbling about my children. I seem to do that now and again!

Take care and have a great weekend.

Wendy

Hi!!

I don't know what got into me yesterday, I just had zip for energy, and was in bed by 9:30, so that cut into my Disboards time. I can't let that happen!! I hope everyone is doing great and sticking to the new lifestyle changes (I'm not going to call them diets...because I don't know about you, but I do NOT want to do this again!)

Hi Jamie! How are you doing? I know eating out can be tough...so many delicious choices, and I was raised to clean my plate! I find that eating some sort of broiled fish that I don't cook at home is nice. And I ask for lots of ice water with lemon. The lemon makes me feel fawncy! Hey, by the way, I found your journal. I'm happy! I'm bouncing over there next.:goodvibes

Beth

Omigosh, your ds is so cute! and his gf is lovely! Don't you love seeing them all dressed up for prom? Usually my son is dressed in tshirts & gym shorts or jeans, so its a treat to see him in a tux. I'll follow your lead and post my son & his gf's pic next weekend. Their prom is next Saturday.

I'm sure your son will be fine, but I don't blame you for being a little worried, considering what happened last time. Does he check in often with you? I'll bet he does. What a great trip he's on...its great that the school offers such a trip! So much fun. What instrument does he play in the band?

My son plays the bass guitar and electric guitar, some keyboard; but not marching band stuff. He's got a band that has completely taken over our basement, and they're pretty good (but Moms can't be fans, I've been told...we're not objective)

Thanks so much for the offer of CDs. Thats so nice! I'm good, though, I think. I've got several Disney CDs I've been listening to, and also the soundtrack to La Nouba that I bought when I saw the show, plus a bunch of Radio Disney CDs that my daughter has...there's one with a version of Pirates Life for Me that (I think) the Jonas Brothers did...its so good! I'm also happy to burn you some CDs if I have anything you're missing from your collection. We can compare playlists and fill in our blanks! I'll borrow my Mom's copy of The Phantom Soundtrack (my Dad had taken her to see the play 2 or 3 times and she looves it). Maybe it will help walk faster, longer!

Geesh, sorry to be so chatty...miss one day on the Boards and I just can't seem to stop my typing!

I've had a good couple of days...having some dental work done on Thursday seems to have quelled my appetite, or I'm just getting used to eating less. Either way, I lost 2 lbs. this week. :woohoo:

I am loving the Atkins shakes for breakfast, and lunches have been pretty lean with meat roll ups, and some low carb yogurt. Yummy. I have to say that the Russell Stover low carb candies are a lifesaver. They're small, but they take the edge off my sweet cravings. For dinner, my dh has been cooking some really good meals. Tonight was roast chicken and broccoli & salad. He cooks it on the grill and adds some good seasonings, so its flavorful. We still make rice or potatoes for the kids, but because both of us are doing this together, we aren't inclined to cheat. Its been helpful too that he's taken over the cooking, because I'm a "sampler"...I believe that a food has to be taste tested at least 5 times before it can be served, so that roughly equates to two full servings for me. If I can avoid cooking, I'll do a lot better, so now I'm cleanup duty.

We're also walking at night together whenever we can (he coaches basketball 3 nights/wk) and I like that a whole lot better than logging in miles by myself. We chat.

I hope you are all doing well, too. I'm off to check out your journals!

Beth

Hello Beth.

WOnderful on the lost pounds! Gee, I did .5 pounds and feel like I've won a medal! :rotfl:

Yes, we should compare cd's. DD has a few of the radio disney ones. I have the parade in the streets one. I enjoy the Animal Kingdom parade. I have always wondered if there was one to the Festival of the Lion King. Probably not.

It does seem that the guy always look better in their tux. It is fun to compare them with other moms. He has checked in and they are on their way home right now from Chicago. He said they had a great time. He is in the precussion section. He usually does the quad snares when they march. It's cuz he has big shoulders. :rotfl2: Not to sure about that one. He also has been playing the piano since he was 5 1/2. This Fall it will be 13 years he has been taking lessons. He plays anything. Sometimes a song gets in his head, and he plays if for eons. DD has been taking piano for 4 years, and she had 3 yrs of violin, but this year, she opted for 5th grade band. She also is in percussion. I am really going to miss DS playing a few hours everyday when he goes off to college this fall. I will just have to have DD play more often! :)

Ok--babbling is over!

Chat with everyone on Monday!

Wendy

Hi Beth,

Glad you found my journal. Thanks for posting in it!!

Your food looks good, I am going to have to try some of the things you are eating. I am not big, okay I just don't do veggies, so I would skip that part of your meal but the other stuff looks pretty good. It's hard around my house when dinner comes around, DH and I are both picky eaters, but he does not need to lose any weight whatsoever. And it's hard to cook two meals, one for him and one for me. That is a work in progress!!!

You're doing great! Keep up the good work!

Have a great day :)

I know what you mean about having to prepare multiple meals at dinnertime. Even though my husband is doing this with me now, our two kids do NOT need to. They're so active that they can eat anything and everything without holding onto any of it. I think my 17 yo boy has 5 smaller meals every day, and he's quite a snacker, though he does prefer healthy treats. My dd is more of a sweet eater, junk food snacker. So I'm still buying those dastardly pop tarts for the kids (but it just isn't worth it to me to eat them anymore) plus cookies, potatoes, rice & pasta. I have drawn the line at potato chips...they are my kryptonite, and if chips are in the house, I will eat them. We tend to make the sides at dinner for the kids, but just not have them for ourselves.

Thanks for compliment on the foods...I have to give all the credit to my dh..he's a good cook, andnow he's making the shopping list so I can stock up for his recipes. Also, I think those Atkins shakes are awesome.

Do you like any veggies, or like them if they're raw or cooked? How about herbs & spices? I find that flavor is really important to me, or I get bored. Off to check your journal!! Good luck and hang on in there!

Beth

A VERY belated 'Welcome to WISH', Beth!

I've been pretty much AWOL from all over lately - my journal explains my crazy life.

Looks like you're doing very well at this journey!

I haven't tried the Atkins shakes - I do WW and found a Slimfast shake that's only 3 points. Plus I'm getting rather addicted to their capuccino ones. I think on ice they'd be like a frap from Starbucks!

Have a wonderful rest of the week!

Hi Julie: Thanks for the Welcome. I'm doing all right, but weight loss is a little slower at 45 than it was at 35, I tell ya! I had a great week last week, I hope I can keep that pace up. I'm not eating any pasta, potatoes, rice, or carbs not on my Atkins shopping list, but I do have some wine on Saturday nights. Its a treat! I'm going to check out your journal too...we can all learn from each other! For instance I think I'm going to look for that WW cappucino shake you mentioned.

Wendy! So your son got back from his trip all safe & sound? I'm glad. My goodness, you have a very musical family! Are you and your dh musicians, too? I'm working on a list of my workout/Disney CDs...I'll send it along soon. I had a dickens of a time with Disboards last night...super sloow connection, but today's better. See you in the Journals!

I had such a great week last week, one would think I was supermotivated for this week, but I don't know. I caught myself, over the weekend, picking at the dinner I was making for the kids...oh, a couple of Cheez its won't hurt...oh, a few bites of pasta will be ok, 3 glasses of wine on Saturday night. I just cannot do that right now! Today my weight was up 2 lbs...but I do think most of that is water weight...I'm about due for that.

So the weeend was undisciplined (oh but if I was writing a journal before I started this loss program, everyone who'd read it would have high cholestoral and body fat just from the reading!)

so yesterday was kielbasa & salad for dinner, roast chicken & an avocado for lunch (sounds strange, but if you mash the avocado and put it on the chicken, its really quite good!) and my Atkins shake for breakfast.. No snacks or treats, I'm out and haven't been to the store. 3 total cups of coffee for the day, and two bottled waters. Dh and I walked for 40 minutes last night, which was fun.

so...we'll see what happens this week, but no matter what...I'm not going off even for a day! I hope everyone else is doing well..:grouphug:

Beth

Ok...I think I was good today but things seem to be getting away from me a little, I'm not sure whats changed, but I need a shake up, I think.

For breakfast I had one cup of coffee, then my Chocolate Atkins shake...

at lunchtime I ate some leftover chicken from a roaster we had the other night. a lot of chicken and a bottled water.

I ate some sunflower seeds for a snack, and a Snackwell's Sensable low carb finger cake (only 4 carbs and very good, but very small)

At dinner, I had some Purdue Oven Roasted Chicken (no skin) with a little low carb Ranch dressing on it. 1 carb in the dressing; then a cup of coffee with 1 carb creamer.

I'm not feeling very energetic...I'm sure I'm not getting enough of something, after all, no veggies today. I've started taking a multi vitamin, so I hope that helps. 83 degrees here today...inspired & motivated, I tried on a couple of my bathing suits. One fits well, but the other....lets just say it shrunk!! I will have to do the dreaded bathing suit shopping, but I will definitely do that on a day when I can go all alone! :thumbsup2

Hey Beth! I tried the other night on the boards and finally just gave up after one post. Too way too long.

I am not musical, although I sing all the time. Well, I call it singing, the others just look at me like I am nuts. Which I really don't understand. My children, until they were 5ish, I sang them to sleep. DS's song was the 12 days of Christmas and When you wish upon a star. DD's songs were Part of your world and A dream is a wish your heart makes. Now that they are older, they pick on me and my singing. Ahhh... the days of innocence!

My DH plays piano. He has for nearly 40 years. I have never learned anything. I do enjoy music. We have music going all the time in the house. Right now I have the soundtrack of the musical for Chicago on. Very upbeat.

We will swap when we get it all together! :rotfl:

Oh--I have never looked into Atkins shakes. I have to be as gluten free as I can. Is that something that is an option? I still think if I did breakfast, no matter how small, it would really help me. I do take my supplements with OJ--other wise it tastes pretty yucky. DH has a protien shake every morning. I think it would be easier if I had a more regular work schedule. Sure, like that is ever going to happpen!

See ya chatting!

Wendy

Wendy, I know what you mean about the boards last night...I tried and tried to post, but got no where. I too gave up! Tonight, another weird computer night for me, my network was down, couldn't connect to the Internet, all my security software was off...strange. Reminder to me: Back Up!

Things are busy here. Son has the prom on Saturday, and we've been trying to arrange the schedule for the evening. He's double dating with another couple, and it has been like pulling teeth to find out who is picking up who & when. His gf and her family are coming to our house for the send off & pictures (can't wait to post them!). We've got to pick up flowers and the tux on Friday...we live out in east bananapatch so its a planned event to get to the city for stuff! My dd12 also has a dance on Friday night, and she'd like the same attention devoted to her dance that we're devoting to Noah's prom! haha. Plus work has been piling up, and I had planned to cut down to 2 days a week at one client, but that isn't possible right now. Too much to do on all fronts!

And, no more solace in food. I tell you, its a double edged sword having dh do the diet with me. He's so disciplined and in control, that I'm even more motivated to stay on track.

Today was a Snackwell Orange finger cake with a cup of coffee for breakfast. Thats a total of 5g carbs. What a way to start the day.

Lunch was truly forgettable...what did I have? oh yes, 2 devilled eggs and some flavored water.

Dinner was a meat salad: turkey, cheese, peppers, onions, cukes & some hot peppers all mixed up with a little mayo. Add some salt/pepper and it was great. Dessert was another finger cake for another 4g. Had a handful of peanuts mid afternoon.

Boy did I drink water today! I probably had 7 pints of water today..which is a lot for me. And I'm retaining every ounce. In my ankles.

No walking today, but I did my arm workout, I'm hoping to tighten up these arms.

So thats my day today...nothing too exciting.

I hope you're all doing well, and hanging in there. Beware!! I heard the bells of the ice cream truck tonight...taunting me to the tune of "Sting." But I perservered! See you tomorrow!!

Omigosh, I did that too! I used to sing my son "A Wink & A Smile" (Harry Connick did it for Sleepless in Seattle). He loved it! My daughter loved "When You Wish Upon A Star" and "If I only had a Heart" from the Wizard of Oz...back then my kids loved to hear me sing.

I'll bet you're like me, too: if you sing along with say, Celine Dion, don't you sound EXACTLY like her?? It doesn't matter who the singer, I think I sound just like her! Do you?

I don't know if the shakes are gluten free: it doesn't specifically say that on the box...What can I look for on the ingredients list to know? I thought of you when I was shopping last week, because my grocery store has a huge "gluten free" section, which I'd never noticed before.

Take care, and see you on the boards!:goodvibes

OH yeah, and ya know, I can hit all those high notes just like Christine Agualara LOL I can sing like anyone! Even Elvis if I hold my posture just right!

Boy, and I thought I was the only one! :goodvibes Good to know there is a kindered spirit out there!

Our store has a modest gluten free section. In the ingredients, it would say contains wheat or in the allergy notice. I did have Chinese for lunch, there is a place that uses potatoe starch and no msg. So I get the beef and veggie with light sauce and I am good. No fortue cookie tho. I did drink 3 glasses of water while there, so now I am indulging in a diet coke. My biggest weakness. I will someday stop. Sure I will! ;)

Well, I have to go and get a memory stick before the concert tonight. Can't wait to see all the kids in their tuxes and such! DS and his GF are both in the percussion section. Co-section leaders. How cute!

Have a great day and if I am not able to log back on for a few, have a great weekend! Get some cool pictures of your son and his date from the prom! We would love to see them! They always look so wonderful in tuxes and formals don't they?

Oh speaking of Harry Connick Jr, do you have his cd called "songs I have heard"? It is songs from like the wizard of oz and willie wonka. Of course new arrangements and such. We like it!

See ya around!

Wendy
