A hypothetical IPod question

I got an Ipod mini in July. I know they are phasing them out, but I didn't know that at the time.
I got a 2 year replacement guarantee at Circuit City. The guy said that usually they just replace the thing rather than try to fix it. But what if it breaks in a year and no minis are left? What do you think they will do? I do NOT want a nano--I am already over 1000 songs (1500 capacity) and only the bigger Ipods would be a suitable replacement. Or perhaps a rehabbed mini? Or would I just be SOL? Opinions please.
BTW I know some people have had issues with circuit city and customer service but I've never had a problem, so let's just assume that they will bend over backwards to accomodate me and not give me any grief.

Maybe they would replace it of something at the same value as your Mini was when you bought it. Seems like I have read something along those lines before.

I thought this just came out? I just bought one two weeks ago for my dd's birthday. Circuit City said it was new and no accessories were available. :guilty: :guilty:

i believe they still have 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation ipods at apple, because when they were having that battery problem last year and gave everyone who had a serious problem with theirs either a replacement or a 50$ rebate for the apple store.

i'm assuming that apple is going to have to keep some minis (or replacement parts for them) until everyones warranties run out.

I had something similar happen a few years ago, but not with an Ipod. At Best Buy I purchased a CD recorder (a standalone deck, not one for a computer). I also purchased the extended warrantee for the unit. The unit failed before the 4 years expired, and they said rather than repair it, I could have a replacement. The unit I originally purchased was no longer being manufactured, so they let me pick something else. The CD recorder I selected was superior to the original one I bought, so I was pleased. :)
I believe Circuit City and Best Buy are very similar in their policies.

Good question!

I had another similar situation myself:
I purchased an iMac from Best Buy back when they first came out & got the 3 year replacement plan. Shortly after Apple yanked the iMacs from Best Buy for selling cheaper than Apple's fixed rate. I wonder what Best Buy would have done if it had to be replaced? I would NOT accept a PC as a replacement since it was not an equal replacement.

But of course it was an Apple, so I never needed Best Buy to do any work on it unless I was upgrading. :)
