A Halloween Adventure in Autism (11/7) Prayer Request for Catie (p.129)

Oohhh

I think I still have it saved in my "now playing list"...I usually never delete the Disney travel specials...so I can get my fix on the tv whenever I need it...:happytv:

... and I am NOT happy!

After numerous consultations with all family members involved, and after doing much soul-searching, I have decided to go back to our original target of Presidents' Week, 2012 for our next Disney vacation.

Another two months added to the ticker... Waaaaah!!

Christmas Week was so very tempting... the Castle Lights... the resort decorations... The Candlelight Processional... all of it. *Sigh*

Two things were nagging at me, however. First and foremost: the crowds. Level Ten with a capital "T." Not very smart when you have an autistic child along, even with the Guest Assistance Card to help with wait times.

The parks would be crowded... the restaurants would be crowded... the shops would be crowded. I can just imagine the over-stimulation day after day... poor Billy!

The second thing was: the extra cost. More points needed for our DVC resort... holiday surcharge for meals... increased airfare because of flying at Christmastime.

(And it's not as if there is a lot of extra cash available right after Christmas, if you know what I mean.)

I had really hoped to be able to vacation with Eddie, DSS who will be a senior in college by then. I talked to him about going to WDW for his visit with us and he was agreeable, but not particularly enthused. "You know, I'm really more of a coaster freak, Kathy. Can't we go to Universal for a few days that week??" :sad2: *Heavy sigh*

Then there was question of bringing "the girlfriend." (There is always a girlfriend in the picture.) Ed became insistant that if we planned a trip during Christmas vacation that we invite Eddie's girlfriend along as well. Now, I would be okay with that if,

1) We ever got to really know any of his girlfriends. Even a steady girlfriend would be a stranger to us.

And,

2) We had more time to spend with Eddie. As it is we only see Eddie about twice a year when he visits from North Carolina. Last summer he was working so we only saw him once... for Christmas vacation. The whole point of having him join us on this trip would be to have "family time."

Selfishly, I must admit that I would not want to share this precious time with someone else, especially if I've never met her before.

And honestly, I think that Eddie would much rather spend his Christmas break the way he always does... sleeping in every day and just hanging out with the family. He really uses the time to re-charge his battery. Having him come with us to Disney would be more about what I wanted and less about what he wanted.

Of course, we are talking about a trip that is two years away, so I may very well change my mind back again. Anything is possible. I didn't want to get my heart set on Christmas, though, so that's why I changed my ticker. I'd rather be in the position of having to shorten it than having to extend it in the future!

I'm home tomorrow so I will work on the next Halloween Trip installment...

Good Night for now,

Kathy

All of your reasons for getting your plan changed seem really valid to me, and better all the way around. I don't think it would really be all it could be with either of those constantly nagging at you while you were there- which they inevitably would be.

Yeah, I totally wouldn't want my vacay shared with someone I HAD to go with and didn't know. It just seems altogether different going with maroo, whom I chose to go with. :confused3

More points= less frills while there. No good.

More crowds= stressed Billy-----> and stressed all of you.

And like you say, it's always better to shorten the ticker than to lenghten it again. :thumbsup2

I know you are disappointed to have to add two months back to your ticker, Kathy, but your reasons are all good ones.

It's such a bummer to be practical and realistic. I know you will enjoy your trip whenever you go. Just think of all of the dreaming and planning you can do between now and then!

You know, Liesa, you're right. Over the years I've learned that when that little voice starts nagging at you, you'd better listen!

Sounds like you really thought this out. You have good reasons for switching back.

Thanks, Jordy.

Bon Voyage... have a fantastic time! Say hello to Mickey for me!

Thanks, CP. I suppose that when you've already got this long of a wait, two more months isn't really that big of a deal!

Absolutely... accentuate the positive! :thumbsup2 And yes, being grown-up about these things can be a real pain sometimes! :rotfl:

******************************************************************

I promised an update... first, I have a meeting this morning at Billy's school and then I have to pick up a few things in preparation for the "big snow" we're expecting.

Hopefully I'll get some computer time before the kids get home from school! LOL!

Kathy

Kathy, I agree that it really seems that you thought this out! I think all of your reasons for it are very valid! You have to do what's best!

Not to mention, I read the other day that Fantasyland is supposed to be completed by 2012! You'll be just in time!

Can't wait for your next installment!

I think it makes sense to move it from Christmas week. I personally would be really overwhelmed MYSELF with that crowd level :scared1:

Oh Kathy... So sorry you had to change your ticker.

But I totally get the reasons why! I would love to see Disney at Christmas, but I don't think I'd want to be there during the busiest week of the year!

Oh Kathy, what a bummer. Don't you just hate it when that little voice creeps in. All your reasons are good ones though and will probably make the trip better once you get there.

Looking forward to your next installment.......

As beautiful as it is at Christmas, February is a good time to visit as well. :thumbsup2

Hi Kathy,

Finally posting on this TR, although I have been following along quietly, and enjoying every minute. I have to say, I do miss not having Aunt Rae's antics to read about on this trip ;)!

I feel your pain with trying to plan your next trip. I am home right now recuperating from surgery and surfing these boards is putting me in serious need for a trip to plan!! Trouble is, we went last April and next trip is not until 2011, but when??? I have the same issues as you, not wanting the kids to miss school (I'll have one in high school, one in middle, and one in elementary next year), and although we've done August, my DH doesn't want to go again (just so hot).

To add to that, DH's brother (and wife and two young kids) have asked if they can tag along on our next WDW trip. Ugh!! In all fairness, we have brought along my MIL and two of DH's sisters in the past. So I am thinking maybe Kidani, because a 2-br would sleep nine of us and I think my niece and nephew would love having the animals right outside.

So needless to say, I am enjoying your trip, loving the pictures from Kidani, any little things you can tell about the resort and how you liked it I would love to know.

Keep up the good work, you are such a great writer!

Melissa

Ah man, I am sorry  Who knows, maybe it will change or maybe it will be the right time.

Awww, Kathy, sorry you had to change your ticker. :flower3: But remember, that things can change overnight, .....you could win a big- all-expenses paid trip to disney. :thumbsup2 (You DO register for all of those, don't you? I sure do! ;) )

Commemorating ten years of Samantha Brown on the network, the Travel Channel will air four special episodes beginning February 8 which includes the Samantha Brown Fan-a-thon on February 10 at 8 PM ET/PT.

Thanks for the heads-up! I just programmed the DVR!

Another two months added to the ticker... Waaaaah!!

Like the others have already said, your reasons for changing are good. Those two extra months will fly by!

Denise

Sorry you had to change your ticker....but that's what tickers are made for....sometimes they move forward and sometimes they move backward. What goes around, comes around. President's week will be fun.

Kathy,
I'm sosorry you had to change your ticker, but it sounds like you had a wonderful and well thought out reason.
I can tell you that we went President's Week in 2009 and had the best time. I think that the crowds were much less then I had feared and while I may have been a little partial being that it was my honeymoon, we did have the best time and on our first MK day either walked on or had very very little wait time on everything and we were even able to do the mountian trifecta before 4pm.
