Hey guys, I am planning a surprise Romantic Escape at Sea and just don't know which spa treatment to choose. I hear that men are guarded over their full body massage vs. spa taster. Which do you prefer? Women, if your spouse/boyfriend can't post could you please ask for me? Thanks as I am really torn.

My hubby had the seaweed wrap/massage on our first cruise..he wasn't impressed.

A few weeks ago..he had the full body massage and loved it.
He would do that again anytime!

Couples often to the Surial Bath spa treatment together. It's fun (as much as you want!) and it's done together. Read about it if you're interested because it's a little different (mud bath, massage oils, steam, shower - all by yourselves) but can be a lot of fun. We enjoyed it.

My husband has always been against having a massage. Said that he would be uncomfortable with someone else touching him. Well, we were at the Grand Floridian in January to celebrate our anniversary and I surprised him with a spa appointment. He spent about 15 minutes in nervous anticipation and asking me all sorts of questions. I waited outside the spa/health club for him and he was actually glowing when he came outside. Said it was the best gift that I could have given him. Now that I've gotten him past the first hurdle, I asked about other treatments, like the men's facial and he say's "no". He would definitely do the massage again, but has no interest in any other type of body treatments.

Go for the aromatherapy massage rather than the spa taster with the REAS package. On our first cruise, my DH got a massage and I got the spa taster (not on the REAS package), simply because DH thought facials were "girly" for lack of a better term. (I have since not learned my lesson and got him a gift card for a gents facial.....it is still sitting in our junk drawer!) When he had gotten his massage on DCL before, the therapists were very flexible in what he could choose to get massaged. He didn't want the backs of his legs done, so they did an extra long scalp massage. I am pretty sure they can/will make some accomodations if your DH is not wanting a certain part massaged, even with the REAS package.

We booked REAS for our 10/02 cruise. Can't wait!

My DH LOVES getting full-body massages. This trip we will be doing a full-body, the Suriel together, and a couples on CC. Enjoy!

Hmm, how do I post this....

OK...I'll try to be "polite" here. In speaking to friends whose husbands did NOT want to do a full body massage, apparently part of their problem is the concern that a.) they're naked or partially unclothed b.) someone ELSE is touching them c.) it might be TOO enjoyable, if you know what I mean? *blush* According to them, they'd "do a back massage", because that's apparently ... um... safer? (I'm blushing here, please excuse me...) but did not want to ever think of a full body massage for fear of offending the masseuse (who has probably had to deal with issues like that before!) or for fear of being embarassed.

*ahem*

OK then. Move on, nothing to see here!

Hope that helps give some insight into issues I've heard my two best friends discuss, as the three of us gals plan a spa day soon nearby!

*ahem*

*is still embarassed*

Hey the full body massage is the way to go. I have no problems with someone elses hands on my back legs etc... I love going with my wife and daughter to get a pedicure before going on the cruise( the leg massage is the whole reason that I go ). I have allways felt great after wards

My husband loves massages. He had had a few that I had gotten him. I had never been myself. Well last April for our anniversary on the Wonder, he surprised me and got us the couples massage. It was wonderful, it was nice that we were both in the same room getting the massages at the same time. That was on the day of departure. On our last day, he surprised me with the surial bath. We had a good time. I'm sure he would do it all over again and no complaints from me.

Have fun.

Diane

DH and I are doing the full body massages. DH says he'll try anything once *except* a facial.
I also agree with previous poster and say "Go for the aromatherapy massage rather than the spa taster with the REAS package"
But whatever you decide I'm sure it'll be nice:)

I honestly appreciate all the feedback and would love to hear more. We have done the surial and really didn't care for it. We did the rain forest and I got sick from aromatherapy smells. My stomach can't handle the smell.

The4ofUs, I understand what you mean and that is what I figured men were cautious about. And, I certainly understand their position.

My husband has had shoulder massages at work but that is it and swears by them. I have never had a massage.

I just booked the REAS package and my DW and I are leaning towards the Spa Taster but both sound good from my point of view. This will be a first for me but sounds like it will be total relaxation. If otherwise, I will surely post the results here when I get back. - Mike

Speaking from a massage therapist's point of view, what The4OfUs mentioned, doesn't really happen very frequently. The things that we tend to have to deal with more often are clients falling alseep and snoring, clients drifting off and drooling, and gas. When you've got a good masseuse and you get good and relaxed, well everything relaxes sometimes.
So for all you guys, from a guy-therapist, don't let that one thing :duck: (yeah, that was bad) keep you from trying a massage. It can be the most relaxing, stress-relieving, vacation-oriented thing you can do.

Tammi--

I'm just curious, what exactly is a facial, anyway?

:D

Well as (an um manly man:rolleyes: ) I was a little concerned about a Facial, after all it took me a while to get up the nerve for a masage. I must say though that the facial was incredible I never realized how much stress I kept in my face. I was amazed how relaxing it was. It was not all girlie it really is about relaxing muscles. And as an aside the Little problem really never has Come up:rolleyes: I think most guys who have had a Proffesional masage will say the same.

He was very anti-massage but I made him go and he loved it. He is now a big fan. He has also gotten body treatments (not at DCL) and liked them. He got a body exfoliation with a wrap. He now always calls that the Giant Burrito treatment (because they wrap you up in a foil blanket). :D

He does not care whether his therapist is male or female, but I strongly prefer a female therapist. So I suggest the massage for you! Note that we both think that the DCL massages are relaxation-style light massages, even if you ask them to be a bit on the firmer side. We both prefer a medium pressure. Just our experience ...

Have a great cruise!

can you pick any of the spa options on the REAS package? we booked it yesterday and would like to know what choices we have? thanks

The Spa Taster or the Well Being Massage are the two you can choose, and you have to have the same one as a couple.

I think dad wants the full body massage....just a hint. The only thing I am worried about is if it is the aromatherapy massage I don't think he will enjoy those scents so then maybe the spa tester would be best.

Does anyone know if it is the aromatherapy full body massage and if they have the scents like eucaleptis (sp) and if they use other herbal scents like that? Thanks.

Hi Heidi (Pooh Friend) and everyone else! Thanks for all the comments.

I tested the waters a bit last night and he seems open to both but like Pooh Friend said that he seemed more interested about the full body massage. I just told him that there was a thread going about massages aboard the ship and I was curious what he thought. :teeth: He didn't need to know I STARTED the thread!
