We got our tax return back the other day, and we just paid off all of our credit card, and medical bills......to the tune of $5000 plus. Other than dd orthodontist bill of $400, the only thing we owe on is our car and the house. This has been a long time (years and years) coming. Life is looking good right now. :)

Congratulations!:cheer2: I love hearing about people who have their priorities straight. Enjoy!

You did all that from an income tax refund? Why not just increase your deductions, quit giving the government a huge interest-free loan and pay as you go? In any case, congratulations on erasing your debts.

For what it is worth, I would rather get a huge lump back at the end, then have to come up with a huge amt........and yes earned income is partly what we get with low paying jobs and three kids.

Most people aren't aware that they can change their deduction amounts, and sometimes people PREFER to pay more throughout the year so that they do have a nice tax return. For some people, that's just the way that like it to happen!

We always end up pre-paying both state and federal on a year in advance schedule due to some investment income - but that's life - and there's no way around it.

Oh well!

Congrats! I'm afraid the cold weather and the price of heating oil are changing all our financial plans for our tax returns.:headache:

Congrats!

We're using our (small, as in less than $1200) refund to go back to WDW for the 1st time since '05. We plan on being debt free (other than the mortgage) by June of '12.

With a refund of $5k I'd look at adjusting your withholding. But if you'd rather use it as a forced savings, nothing wrong with that either. With saving account interest rates less than 1% there is no real harm in it if that's what a person wants to do.

Congrats! My family got about 5k back (state and fed comb) too but it is due to my husband changing jobs and having new deductions (office at home, etc) that helped. Won't get it next year but it is super nice to get it this year!

Yeah! :cool1:

We also get a nice chunk back, half goes to summer camps & the other half towards our Home Equity.

Congratulations for you and your family. It is always good to pay off debt and inspire others. WTG:cool1:

YAY!!!!
Congrats to you!
That is a wonderful feeling isn't it?
We are hoping to get back to being debt free with exceptions of house/car.
We have a plan in place and hopefully our tax return will do us just as well as yours did.
:cloud9:

Congrats! It takes a lot of discipline to get some $ and put it towards debt rather than fun!
It feels so good to be out if debt. We just gave a mtg left. If we pay only the punt we will be done by the time we are 45 (9 yrs) but e hope to have it done in 5 yrs.

Great Job!
