A great big pickle...sigh.

I just heard it on CNN news while I was doing some dishes and my heart dropped as I thought of Andy and all the kids. What a tragic story and my heart goes out to the family of the CM and all of the Disney family.

Kathy, that was the first thing I thought of too, but before posting, read as much as I could find and it appeared to be a family. I know what an awful feeling it must have been for you.

Ugh. Hugs, Kathy. It is just so tragic on so many levels.

I hope that didn't sound selfish. I hadn't heard where it happened and I wasn't sure if the kids had decided to go to MK. It just made me shudder.

It is very tragic...especially for that poor CM and his family. The pictures made me shake. I can't imagine. And I cannot believe someone would actually videotape it...I don't know what people think sometimes.

I did not look at the video - hope it doesn't show the crash....sigh...

I'm hoping it does not turn out to be the fault of the driver, but rather a glitch with the monorail computer system, perhaps with the location of the first train or with the monorail train that plunged into the standing train ..but I keep thinking for that kind of impact, it must have been going awfully fast into the station. The monorails usually pull in very slowly.

My heart aches for everyone invloved.

Selfish? Heavens no. It's the first thing I thought of too.

How terrible to read of this accident first thing. Having ridden with the monorail pilots many times, I can hardly believe that the accident is anything other than driver error. The monorail speed is controlled by the driver with a hand throttle, not by the computer. The monorail must have been coming into the station awfully fast to have hit that hard, also. So sad for everyone involved.

I'm sure it will be some time before we get the answ3ers. It was announced not long ago that the driver was only 21. :sad1:

There is a post on the parks board that gives some more information/speculation from a former monorail driver:

:(

This is such sad news. I can't stop thinking about it.

Unfortunately, we received some additional bad news today and I may not be around the boards the next couple of days.

We are very good friends with a couple here in our town. The husband coached our youngest son, Mark, in wrestling from 5th through 8th grades and then helped him during the summer before his senior year of high school. Mark now helps this man coach his "youth group" and they have won numerous team awards and their wrestlers have won numerous state and national awards, etc.

This young couple lost their 4-month old infant son this morning. They will be doing an autopsy. The baby was fine when they checked on him at 12:30 this morning and then when the mom got up on "automatic pilot" to feed the baby, he was not breathing.

I am just heartbroken for this family. I stopped over there and it was just an unbearable scene. I told the mom that I happen to be home the next three days (I took vacation time) and that if she needed me to watch the younger kids (they have a 2 year old, a 6 year old and a 9 year old, plus a 14 year old), that I would do anything she needed.

Oh my gosh, what horrible news. I can not even imagine what that family is going through. :sad2: Bless you for offering to help them out. Ya'll will be in my thoughts. :grouphug: Such a sad sad day.

That is every parents worst nightmare, and makes me want to vomit to read it. I am so sorry for their loss.

I am so very sorry for the passing of their baby. Last thing we ever want is a new member in this club of bereaved parents.

My heartfelt thoughts and prayer will be with them....

Kathy, you are a dear friend to them. If I can be of help to you - in knowing what to say, what not to say etc, please don't hesitate to write or call. I will email my phone number and send a couple of very helpful links for friends of newly bereaved.

A parent whose child dies is considered newly bereaved for 2 years...the second yr is more difficult than the first as that is when reality clicks in...and subsequent years allow the pain to soften.

Here are a few links that may help right now - I know it looks like a lot, but it will be of great help to you if you have time to read through (none of these links are long) and perhaps print out a brochure or more for them...do not give it to them directly, but leave it on a table or somewhere they will find it. God bless you all at the unimaginable difficult time.

So sorry to hear of your friends' baby. I will keep you all in my prayers.

I am also still in shock about the monorail accident and the driver's death. I guess it is because we go and leave the "real world" behind and this is so real world. I have always told my girls they were safe at Disney and I believe we are. Still to this day I believe that. BUT, I don't think we'll ask to sit up front any more.

Hugs to everyone today.

Thanks, and hugs to you too. :grouphug:

I am completely bummed out. What a craptastic day. I can't stop thinking about this accident and how many lives were affected. I am SO sad and feel guilty for wanting to plan my trip. Just doesn't seem important anymore. :sad2:

I am very blessed and I should think about that more often.

I know how you feel. It's just been a really bad day all around. I've done nothing but sit on my rear end. I hav eno motivation to do anything. I just keeping thinking of the 4 month old of our friends and the 21 year old monorail driver.

Yes, we are very blessed and I guess sometimes we should question why we complain sometimes.

But you still need to make your plans, Tracy. You've been looking forward to this and despite what has happned today, life does go on. All we can do is a prayer for the young man and his family.

:grouphug: I think many of us who have a heart for Disney also have hearts that feel intensely, and so we take in and are deeply touched by tragedy.

Tracy, allow your emotions to flow...then try to find something about your trip that, during the planning, has brought out excitement or looking forward to the enchantment.....and let that touch your heart again.

Your trip is very important - Walt wanted DL and WDW to give guests a way to leave the hum-drums and difficulties of everyday life behind for awhile. Things can happen - and will - just about anywhere. So while our hearts go out to the families intimately effected - in a way, we must go on and plan and enjoy and look forward to our visit...someone gave their life so we can do just that!!

kathy,
I'm very sorry to hear of the loss of your friend's baby. This makes me so sick to my stomach, I cannot fathom this ever happening. I will keep them in my thoughts and prayers.

[sorry if I am intruding in this thread, but I have followed it and read this devastating news .... and felt the need to share ... May God, friends and family help them thru this terrible, dark time.]
