Madison is a great place! I live right near one of the lakes in a really great neighborhood . Is your DD's friend a student here? I came here to go to school and ended up returning 2 years later to stay.

Her friend went to school there in 1990 and never came back! She now has 2 munchkins and her mother even left her hometown (Boston) and moved there too. My parents lived just a bit south of the WI border in Rockton, IL - when we visited them we;d go to Madison to visit Debbie too. DD seriously considered a move, but Boston was cold enough and we're all in mild winter country! Not crazy about NC (not on the ocean), but the mild winters are fabulous- by March 20th all the trees are flowering!

Kathy, so glad you posted those photos of the outside dining area - I mentioned it awhile back as a nice option if it's not too hot. I don't remember - any outdoor ceiling type fans?

I hear you. Hubby had his third pay cut in three years and with the boys both in college (oldest is going back for his Masters in September) things are really tight. We're aiming for September 2010.

No, no ceiling fans that I remember, unless there are some by the tables that are right outside of the building and not by the lake.

I don't quite understand ... you have a deluxe resort booked now, you're thinking about booking another deluxe instead and you just found out that CSR would save you even more than that and you concerned about $2-$4 per meal (for both of you!) at a specific restaurant? Seriously, that 10% tip is a drop in the bucket compared to everything else you are spending or thinking about spending.

It's a matter of principle for me and what "service" I believe is deserving of my money. Nothing more, nothing less.

That is how a lot of people feel about Pepper Market. The fact is that you are seated by a human, drinks are brought to you by a human and your plates are cleared for you by a human. That human works for tips. Could you get your own drinks, scope out your own table and throw out/pile your own dishes? Sure. But that's not the way that Pepper Market is set up. Take it or leave it or eat outside. If you choose not to eat at the PM because you don't want to tip a measly 10% then that is YOUR loss. You will miss the huge steak and potato meal, you will miss the perfectly grilled tuna steak with those french fries to die for and you will miss their freshly baked pizza of the day. Man, my mouth is watering just writing about it!
