Would anyone be able to recommend a good meal outside of Diseny?

We are going to be off property (visiting my friend Harry) one day and would like to try something that is away from the parks and a good representation of what Orlando has to offer.

I know that DTD and City Walk have lots of great places, but we are really looking for somethng that is away from the parks all together.

Any thoughts?
TIA

Price Point? type of food? distance willing to travel?

O.M.G. Sorry, OP, I can't help you. Your question just made me realize that since I started coming to WDW in 1975, I have NEVER eaten off property.:scared1: That kinda freaked me out a little bit.

There are some great restaurants in Orlando. The place we end up going back to is Roy's. Outstanding quality, a wide array of choices, away from the tourists, and not significantly more expensive than Disney table service prices.
You can look at the menu on the link below. As mentioned, if you can provide more information regarding like/dislikes and budget that would be helpful.
Good luck.

We also eat at Roy's every trip and also Seasons 52, great food at both restaurants and lovely atmosphere.

Checkout the Orlando Attractions forum, there are lots of forums about offsite restaurants.

Price Point --- $$ - $$$ I am looking for a sit-down, enjoy your meal restaurant. Nothing with a drive-thru or falling into the "national-chain" categories.

Type of Food --- whatever is considered local - for example, where we are from (Kansas City area) I could tell you some great BBQ places. Steak is always a good option, but seafood is NOT a favorite though.

Distance Willing to Travel --- we will have a car and are willing to drive throughout the Orlando / Kissimmee area, but would want to keep it fairly local as in no more than a 30-45 minute drive from WDW or Universal.

Thanks for the input.

We are making a trip to Smokey Bones. My SIL went to college in Kentucky and we always ate there on visits.

Capriccio Grill Steakhouse at the Peabody is casual but nice. Napa at the Peabody is $$$$. Menu for Capriccio We enjoy the meals prepared by Chef Isaac at Capriccio. We haven't tried Napa yet as it is fairly new.

Charley's Steakhouse in Kissimmee is good with good reviews.

La Luce at Bonnet Creek Hilton. Just off Disney property at Hilton Bonnet Creek. This was good but we would rather dine at Il Mulino at the Swan.

Then there are places such as Bahama Breeze and Funky Monkey on International Drive. Okay but touristy.

Also Restaurant Row, Sand Lake Rd has many restaurants but I can't suggest any of these personally, just because we haven't dined there.

There are so many to choose from. Enjoy your holiday.

I would highly recommend the Bone Fish Grill. There are a couple of locations in the Orlando area that are not to far away from Walt Disney World. One located on Sand Lake Road in the Dr Philips area, a second one is at The Loop Plaza on the Osceola Parkway and the third is in the Winter Garden Shopping Village which you get to by driving behind the Magic Kingdom.

Thank you everyone for your input. My DS (13) likes the look of Bahama Breeze so I think we will plan on stopping by there. I think it was the music on their website that caught his attention. :)

Does anyone happen to know of a restaurant that serves Boliche? That is one of my DH's favorite Cuban dishes. We have eaten at a number of Cuban restaurants during our past trips, but we can't seem to find one with this on the menu.

Numero Uno has it on their dinner menu as a carne entree. I've never dined there so can't tell you anything about the location or food. It does appear to be close to downtown Orlando.

We are dining at Cuba Libre sometime Labor Day weekend and I'll let you know if they serve it or not. I don't see it on their menu though.

There are two Bahama Breezes. Personally, I think the one on International Drive is better managed and has a better food prep than the one nearest Disney.

Thank you so much Redzinner! My DH says that Numero Uno looks to have lots of authentic items. He is so excited to try it. Thanks! I appreciate the heads-up about the location for Bahama Breezes and will be sure to head to the one on International Drive. I can't wait. Too bad we can't get any good Cuban food here and unfortunately, I am not the best at making it myself. Thanks again!
