A good find at Dollar Tree yesterday...might be good for a holiday gift!

I saw a two-layer covered cake plate at Dollar Tree yesterday...it was really nice, with a snap on lid (locking) and a handle---perfect for taking baked goods to someone's house. I got mine because I'm making a cake for a special dinner Saturday night for company, and thought it would look better than just sitting on a dinner plate, lol.

When I got it home, I realized it would be perfect to use for baked goods that I plan to give for the holidays. The cake plate itself is a useful gift (and at only $1, you can't beat that!), and you could use it not just for a cake, but for a pie, or even arrange sliced holiday breads, or cookies, or candies on the round tray, and put the lid on it. I'm going back to Dollar Tree to stock up on these...I have lots of people I was planning to give homemade goodies too, and this is nicer (IMHO) than using tins, or bags, or boxes.

I know, I thought what a great deal and bought 4 of them a couple of weeks ago. I bake a lot for the holidays and have several family events to go to and several more to host. I won't care if I accidently forget to take these back home with me since they are $1.

I saw that, too! I resisted because I usually bake cupcakes and it didn't look like it would hold very many. It's a great value, though!

Good point...definitely wouldn't work for layers of frosted things! lol

I love Christmas shopping at Dollar Tree - I often think its way overlooked :) Love their Calendars and for a $1 NICE gift! I also use them to supplement gifts i buy - like adding a fun little gift to the top of a gift etc...

Great find thanks for the idea!! I'll head over today to stock up on those! Are they plastic?

Has anyone found these in Va? I checked two stores and can't find them. I couldn't open to see the pix? Anyone else have a pix? I desperately need something to take 4 pies from Va to Pa on thanksgiving.

Thanks, OP! I'm actually taking the Wilton Cake Decorating class at Michael's right now and this is so handy!! Going to be so easy taking in the cakes for the class now.

A pic for those that asked. The coke bottle is for size reference.

It will definitely hold a 2 layer cake, but probably only if the layers aren't overly fluffy. Since we're learning to "level" the cakes in class, I have no worries. :rotfl:

Darn they were sold out at my Dollar tree.

But I was able to find a bunch of other things (10 to be exact!) that I needed.:rotfl2: Some good disney finds- a couple star wars coloring books, a sewing kit, some ornaments to make my wreath a little fuller Oh and The Works!!Toilet cleaning stuff. Love that stuff and for $1 come on!

Thanks for reminding me to check out the Dollar Tree.

In the store I was in, they were all the way in the back, on the lowest shelf and the tops were stacked separately from the bases so it all took up less space. I would have missed them if I hadn't specifically been looking for them.

Okay, for all of you creative people--if you start out with this set, what can you add to it to make it a nice, yet inexpensive, Christmas gift?

Last year I used the idea on these boards to buy the pot holder with the pocket & put a bag of sugar cookie mix in it with two recipes to use it as a starter for Christmas cookies, & tied on a spatula--everyone loved it & it only came to about $3 for each one!

I think this has great promise of living up to an awesome set--would you buy a cake mix to put inside & something else to go with the theme? TIA for your help!

Thanks OP for the tipoff--I'm going to Dollar tree today!

You're welcome! I'm just sorry I couldn't figure out how to correctly post my picture.

I think that's a GREAT idea to add a cake mix...don't forget a can of frosting! lol :)
