After 27 years.
Pulled it out of her bag, reached up under her sweatshirt and applied it. And acted shocked that I was shocked.
Well excuse me.

After 17 years teaching in a very inner-city school, this is not surprising at all to me. Quite tame actually.

Good thing she applied her deodorant or else your classroom would have stunk. I'm okay with it. It's not that big of a deal.

Better that than no deoderant I guess. :thumbsup2

Well if she hasn't applied it in 27 years she must really stink! ;)

You are dissing in the classroom?

There are alot worse things she could have done. But yes, ask to go to the bathroom and do it there.

I could see students in my middle or high school doing this.

In middle school we couldn't carry backpacks only small bags or purses. Didn't have lockers, stuff was stored in desks in your homeroom (or cubbies if your homeroom was a science class with lab tables). 90% of teachers would not let you go to the bathroom during a class.

Thus unless you had the books for your next class already and had time in the 3 minute bell to get to a restroom then make it to class on time you couldn't use the restroom or do anything else like this in the middle of the day.

High school was the same way but then at least we had lockers so you didn't have to go to another classroom that kids that hve class are trying to get into and out of and dig through your desk that someone could before you get there be sitting at.

This was a frequent occurrence when I was in High School. Most of the time after Gym class you were rushing to beat the bell to your next class. No time to stop at the bathroom, and you weren't allowed to take a bathroom pass in the first 5 minutes of class. So, you usually sat down (guys & girls) and put your deodorant on. :rotfl:

Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

I expect she's been told "no" to bathroom requests one too many times and has simply given up.

(Can you tell my own kid was just complaining about this on the way to school this morning?)

I have seen it happen a number of times, I can think of about 3 different ones who do it regularly. At first I was a bit surprised, but I am guessing it is now acceptable. I've also seen them using those Wisp toothbrush things.

I don't see it as a big deal. However, I do find that you posting about it from the classroom rather disturbing. Aren't you supposed to be teaching?:confused3

Teachers have preps and breaks! They don't sleep on a cot in their classroom. Are your kids doing homework 100% of the time? Not trying to be rude but seriously She can do whatever she wants in her classroom with her free time. Teachers don't teach from 730 to 230 straight.:rolleyes1

As for op- I would rather her quickly put deodorant on than to stink to high heaven. At least she cares enough not to smell in public. I carry a stick in the car for when I forget in the am.

Not surprised. We lost any decorum long ago.

If she had students in her classroom, as this was happening (which her post indicate) then it wasn't "free time". Unless it was to update a teacher page with homework and other information, I have a problem with a teacher posting on the internet during class time.

Especially if using school resources to do it (though she may have been posting from her personal web-enabled phone which actually may be worse...kids aren't supposed to be doing that in a classroom, why should a teacher?)

No her post indicates that it just happened but just happened could have been 10 minutes ago and now she is posting. I just poured a cup of coffee. Do you assume I did it as I was typing?

School resources? She's not taking toilet paper from the closet to use at home. She's using the internet on her free time. NOT a big deal. I know teachers who read blogs while they are at school. As long as students are being tended to when they need to be who cares.
