A gift or not?

DS is graduating from 8th grade tomorrow. DS's friend's parents are renting a limo on Friday night to take a few of their son's friends to NYC. I'm torn if I should give DS friend a gift. He will definitely write a thank you note to the parents. Do I give a gift or not??
