A gift for a Canadian?

Hi all. I hope my question is permitted here.

A friend, who is Canadian, is helping me ( I live in the US) plan my first WDW vacation in almost 20 years.
IMO she is a Disney expert - goes to WDW at least once a year and Disney cruise once a year. I would like to get her a "thank you" gift for her help. This is where I need your input.

Would a Disney gift card (in US dollars) be a good choice? She always pays ahead with a free dining plan for her trips so I am unsure if this would be beneficial to her. And seeing as I haven't been to Disney in 20'years I'm not sure if there will be a lot of out-of-pocket expenses for her and her family. I wondering if she could make use of a gift card that wasn't in Canadian dollars.

So yes or no to the gift card and if yes, how much would be appropriate?

I think this would be a perfect gift! There are always somethings that *need* to be bought ... the dated material is always big for me (magnet, calendar ..) and I would love being able to think it was gifted to me from a special friend :D

As to the amount? It depends on how much time she's spent but i would think maybe $25.00 is a wonderful gesture.

If she goes on a DCL cruise, she can use the gift card to put on her on board account to pay for drinks, adult dining, or anything else charged to the account. I believe that they can also be used in the onboard shop or items can be purchased and charged to the onboard account as well. Much better for it to be in USD as that's the currency of use on the ship.

Dining plan doesnt cover tips which add up very fast. So your gift card would be perfect. Last trip I planned for a friend, she bought me a pair of Mickey earrings - I LOVE them!

I think a Disney gift card would be great. Any amount will be appreciated, I'm sure.

I've helped a few friends as well. I've gotten a gift card a couple of times, but mostly a thank you email or card. To be honest, the email/card means much more to me because of the sentiments.

Also, I'm sure everyone here will agree....helping someone plan a Disney trip is so much fun that it's rewarding as well. I rarely offer my help to plan Disney trips because I believe people enjoy planning their own trips, but since everyone knows we are Disneyfanatics (we spend an average of 4-6wks per year at WDW/DL/DCL/Aulani) for the last 15+yrs, I do get requests to help. When they contact me after their trip and express how much they appreciated my tips/info, that's enough for me.:)

ITA. The absolute best gift is to tell me any specific tips/advice I gave you that really made your trip better.

I will certainly voice my appreciation, but I also wanted to compensate for her time.:) Navigating this forum is a bit overwhelming for me due to the sheer amount of information (plus I know none of the abbreviations so reading a thread takes a bit of time due to stopping to look up the abbreviations )
I appreciate all of your input. Thank you so much!

WOW, i just did some quick math (rather easy!) and noticed that this was your very first post :welcome:

YES, the amount of information needed to be researched is overwhelming to a newbie to the DISboards. I try to keep my TLAs to a minimum to avoid confusion because even though i've been around the block a few times, some of the shortforms are confusing and somewhat exclusive ---where else do you see ADR and know that means dinning reservations?!?! And the Star Wars Dessert party is SWaGS DP -- seriously?!?! (although my profile says 2006 I was actually part of these boards when they were brand spanking new for a trip in 2000 but forgot my screenname and password so had to start from scratch)

There is a thread that shows the commonly used shortforms with links to a better description of that "thing"

Lol you lost me at "TLA" It's not on your cheat sheet!:)

Thank you for the welcome. I joined a few years ago but couldn't talk my husband into going until now so I was never active.

I plan to keep reading. One of these days I'll be able to understand you guys. :):)
