A general timeshare question

I am looking for guidance. We recently rented a week for May in Fort Lauderdale. I rented from tug and all seemed ok. I paid the asking price and the owner wanted a notarized letter relieving them of all damages for that week which I sent. Now the owner has said the did not receive the letter so they will have Interval International issue a guest cert which of course I will have to pay for. But my question is once the certificate is issued can the owner change it. I'm starting to get a bad feeling about this and just want to cover all bases.

II doesn't allow their exchanges to be sold in the first place - if he is the owner than he shouldn't need to go through II....

go ask on tug if anyone has problems with the rentee you are talking about....

As noted, II doesn't allow exchanges to be be rented though it's done all the time. Did you know this was an exchange when you rented it. Sounds like the member wanted you to take the risk if the resort turned you away. You could pay the guest cert fee or ask the other party to do so. You could also ask for a refund based on the above and threated to contact II about the rental, especially if you didn't know it was an exchange.

I In fact did not know it was an exchange. I hve agreeg to the 35. guest certificate. It is my understading that one the sert is issued, noone but myself can change the resservation. Is that correct

I don't know for certain but I don't think that is accurate. You may want to call II.

Last year I was able to book a week for my sis in Williamsburg, II didn't charge me for a guest certificate, it was free if booking online. They didn't say this couldn't be done either, it did come to my address, but she paid it with her credit card.

Guest certificates are free for getaways but cost for exchanges.
