A Gem of a trip-quality, clarity, color and "Cut that out!" completed 8/4

As usual, another great update that has left me wanting more!! I hope the storm wasn't too horrible, although you did already allude to the raincoats in most of your photopass pics... However, I'm sure you made the most of everything, so keep posting and I'll just wait here, popcorn:: on the edge of my desk chair.

Great update! Now I'm wondering what will happen next...

I don't understand why all the parks were opening at 8am because of a tropical storm -- what time were they supposed to open?

And I loved hearing the magic words you said to get your kids to come around and make nice for the photo shoot. :thumbsup2 We took my boys to DL when they were 6, 11, and 13, and boy oh boy could they fight -- and it was constant  I laid it straight out for them -- money was tight, but we had saved up to have a nice vacation and wanted EVERYONE to have a fabulous time -- all of them, and Brrt (their step-dad) and me too. So NO FIGHTING, PERIOD. I totally didn't expect it to work, but for some reason it did :confused3:rotfl2: I don't think they argued or bickered for the whole trip! And now they are 17, 22, and 25 -- and they still haven't gotten around to killing each other, so I guess that's a good sign

I think Disney was expecting to have to close the parks that day.

How did I miss that bit of info?

I put it in a big font just for you.

You've got me on the edge of my seat.

So you can relax a bit we never needed the flashlights.

So glad you are back! I was about to send out a search party for you. I figured you exploded from all that food on the deluxe plan.

And yes, as DisneyJo can concur.. there were raincoats involved.

love the update. Yeah we weren't too happy about Fay either. We decided to take that day as a rest day because we were supposed to go to Blizzard Beach that day. Glad the kids came around for you. Did Nanny ever get any food and was she very upset that you went without her? What kind of groceries did you get? Am I too nosy? I figure after the iceberg comment anything was fair game:rotfl2:

Nanny did get something from the food court on her solo expedition down there but I never asked what it was. She really hated her fish basket from lunch and it was brought up many times over the vacation as a joke. As in "Hey Nan. We're getting a snack now do you want us to find out if they have fish for you?" I think only Poppa and I got a kick out of bugging her about it. She really wasn't upset with us. She was happy to have had the long nap.

I ordered groceries from gardengrocer. Mostly snacks and breakfast stuff. Which we ate. Bananas, yogurt smoothies, cereal and milk. I envisioned being thirsty from the August Heat and hanging out at the pool every afternoon with a bag of chips and a drink (mine spiked of course). Well... since that didn't happen we had tons of water, and capri sun left. I even ordered a case of beer for the men but they never finished it. I'd still order again cause it was great to have the food there and if I had popped out myself anywhere I would have spend so much more money.

And yes, you get a free pass this time.

Yeah, hard to complain about a nice nap :cloud9:

We ordered from GG too...we have to have lots of bottled water, and got some sodas, bananas, coffee (which we couldn't use anyway because we had no filters  ). We had some water and sodas left, so the day we were leaving we looked for a family to pixiedust them to (we did that last year), but the only ones we saw were checking out as well -- so I put a "free to a good home" sign on them and left them near the ice and vending machines. Hope someone was able to use them...

Oh gosh, I forgot you went when Faye was looming!

I love DTD. There is so much there. I sat at one point and watched everyone's kids play in the Magical fountain. It was nice.

I guess if you have children it would be nice to be closer to the main building and the food court. They gave us a choice between 24 and 16. Personally loved 24. I liked the quiet solitude. We were close to the West Depot too. I love to walk. It's all in want you need or want I guess.

We had great weather here in Ontario for Thanksgiving weekend last week. We all went up to the cottage (Nanny & Poppa, my brother and his family and us). Since I was away from a computer I haven't any new updates but here is a quick look at our Thanksgiving until I can add an update later this week.

It was Cindy's birthday on Saturday and she got her first American Doll. Here she is in their matching PJ's

Here was my present. All summer I have been saying I was going to buy the neighbours canoe. Well.... Poppa bought it and it was down at the beach waiting for me.

Canoe.jpg

DH was busy busy too. He chopped wood and he cut down some branches with Poppa's new chainsaw (I guess that would be DH's present because Poppa never used it)

Poppa was still busy playing with a gift that came with the cottage. The Tractor. He took Cindy and Jedi-knight for a ride.

Jedi Knight in trainning finally got his b-day present from my brother. It was an Indiana Jones Lego set. We never saw him again all weekend. He stayed in the sunroom (to keep the small pieces away from his baby cousin's fingers).

Here is the table set for Thanksgiving. Nanny bought herself a 200 piece china setting (actually it is only 199 pieces as a saucer was missing) at a fancy factory outlet store maybe 20 years ago. She's been saving it until we got a cottage. Thank goodness we did.

I've started trying to cut DH's hair myself. Poppa bought me one of those shaving kits. I apparently did not lock the clip on because I pretty much shaved a spot clean on the back of his head. Opps!

I had to cut it really close after that. Here is the finished product. I think I concealed it pretty well. Amazingly Poppa still let me cut his hair after I botched up DH's.

DH is talking to his father on the phone who was admitted into the hospital that day. He is battling bone cancer. They are going to try out a morphine drip and that is why he was put into the hospital.

On to more upbeat topics.... We opted to deep fry our turkey this year. Here are the men watching over it.

ThanksgivingMensittingdownontheturk.jpg

Here is a closeup picture of the deep fryer. The turkey is in there somewhere.

It was crispy and crunchy all melt in your mouth delicousness. I thought it rocked. The down side is that you don't get gravy that way but it sure is nice for a change.

Here I am putting my kiddo's to bed and having one last cuddle.

Here we are saying goodbye to Poppa.

It was a lovely weekend. But back to reality.

Looks like you guys had a great weekend. We were in Fargo where it was rainy and cold much like here. It was 5 degrees C yesterday and -4C with the windchill....yes windchill this morning. At least we weren't in Saskatchewan with the snowstorm:scared1:

So is that American Girl doll something Cindy really wanted? It looks cute.
Your table doesn't look too big for all those people or were the kids eating at another table?

Now I do have to comment on the bug nets over the faces of the turkey watchers, I live in the mosquito capital of the world and we never wear those. Don't they sell bug spray in Ontario:confused3

I'm glad to hear the turkey was great. I've never tried deep fried but it sounds soooo good.:woohoo:

Keep the updates coming. I know, I know, I'll work on mine too.:rolleyes1

The bug nets are for the gnats. They are tiny bugs that conjugate around your face.

Update coming soon I promise.

Great Thanksgiving pics! Here in the states, we have to wait until November for Thanksgiving... Happy Birthday to Cindy! :bday: Looks like you had such a good time at the cottage -- I love that in the pic with your dad you are all wearing a rainbow of Crocs

OK, now...back to WDW! popcorn::

Looks like you had a great Thanksgiving, I'm thrilled you got your canoe! If you don't mind me asking, where up North is the cottage? We have a cottage up near Tobermory, but I doubt you're cottage is that far from Port Hope. Don't you love Ontario at this time of the year, everything is so beautiful!! Can't wait for your next update. :goodvibes

Seriously didn't even know that they sold hats with nets over them!!! You learn something new every day!

Great update (that I apparently missed a couple of days ago!) and what a beautiful background for a Thanksgiving celebration. I only get to walk next door to my inlaws!

**No pictures this chapter-just EMOTIONS**

I woke up with a start that morning. I sat up in bed and to glance at the alarm clock around DH. It read 6:05 am. I ordered the wake up call for 6:30 but all sorts of things were going through my mind and I couldn't quiet it back down so I gave up and just got up. I don't even think DH mumbled as I rolled over him so I wouldn't step on Cindy on the pull-out trundle bed beside me.

The first thing I did was open the door to check on the weather. Because the Newscasters could have been wrong. It just might be your average Florida sunny sunrise going on out there. It was my first full day of our trip so I had hope that anything could happen.

Nope. It was dark, windy overcast and raining. Not a really hard rain but rain nonetheless. I guess the weather forecasters knew what they were talking about. Sigh.

Yesterday when we turned on the weather station it showed thunderstorms for the next 5 days. Do you know how depressing it is to start your vacation in the sunshine state looking at weather forecast of only the thunderstorm icon? I had hope though. It couldn't possibly thunderstorm for five or six days straight I thought. I held on to that thought the same way I believe that if I don't count how many of the little tiny Halloween size chocolate bars I eat in one sitting than my body won't notice the extra calories. I believed because I had to believe. Our entire vacation depended upon me believing that the sun would indeed shine through. I tried the weather station again to see if they had changed their minds about the rest of the week. Nope. Still a full screen of thunderstorm icons. Bigger sigh.

So I went about my morning routine. I opted not to walk all the way down to the food court for a coffee and made myself one in the room instead. I was fully dressed and eaten before the wake up call happened.

The kids had argued last night about who got to pick up the phone to listen to Mickey and Stitch. They all wanted to do it. Of course that was not at the ungodly hour of 6:30 am when they normally sleep until at least 7:45 or 8am on summer break. No one stirred. It was like t'was the night before Christmas poem. Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. So I answered. It was the first time I had heard it. Let me just say I hope they have a new one by my next trip. I mean you would think that Disney would have a few options to choose from.

Anyhow, I will spare you the details but I got them all up and ready. Jedi Knight had the hardest time getting ready to leave. He had a melt down. I didn't record the details just the words in uppercase. DS5 MELTDOWN.

It doesn't stick out in my memory because he had a meltdown everytime we tried to leave the room even to go swimming or to the food court for a meal. Mind you I was guilty of having a mini-meltdown in my head everytime I had to walk to the food court because I was so angry I didn't get my room request filled. It got really loud (in my head at least) each time I walked by a sign for the building I wanted. I'm not sure it was always in my head and I suppose I could have been ranting out loud a few times but no one would have heard me over all the rain anyway. So my madness was contained or rather concealed for the time being.

But back to DS5 Jedi in training and his meltdowns. I can't blame him for not wanting to go outside that morning. It was depressing looking. It was a little chilly and not exactly what we had all anticipated and experienced last year. He was so bad in the morning that DH and I spoon fed him and had to carry him to the washroom and back. He was not willing to do anything himself.

The morning started out with DH and I cajoling him, cuddling him and very sweetly trying to convince him to get ready to go. Eventually our patience wore out and by the time we were ready to depart from the room DH and I would sound like the screaming nasty parents you see all over the MK around 4pm otherwise known as the bewitching hour. After DH and I had crossed over to the nasty yelling smart alec side of parenting and Jedi in training had reached his boiling point one of us would pick him up and shove him into the stroller and off we would go in a huff. It was a horrible way to start everyday and every outing. Looking back I still don't know how we would have stopped it.

You see, it was different things that would set him off each time. It could have been a water bottle or a particular piece of clothing, he wanted to take or not take with him. It could have been a ritual he hadn't completed properly with his stuffy stitch, or his pillow. It could have been that he hadn't finished playing with his new Lego (even though he got lots of warnings and physical reminders like we are leaving when this TV show is over or when the clock numbers say…). It was different things each time but it was always something.

Perhaps like DH Jedi in training secretly hates it when mommy is in charge. Perhaps he really doesn't like Disney after all (Blasphemy I know). All I know is that DH and I had to take turns battling it out with him just to keep our own sanity. That morning we hadn't worked out the tradeoff thing yet so we were both agitated and frustrated with him which meant we were taking it out on each other and grumping and nipping blaming each other for setting him off and huffing and puffing until we blew ourselves up. Think the three little pigs and you know where I'm going with this. All pink faced and fuming.

So you can imagine the look on Poppa's face as he was standing at the door with Cindy and Eeoyre waiting for DH and I to emerge with Jedi. He can hear all the yelling and some of it I'm sure he found amusing but I'm also sure he started to feel uncomfortable. Poor Poppa. He was ready right on time and in a cheery mood. Unlike the rest of us.

At least Cindy and Eeoyre were ready to go. They might have kicked up a fuss too but you know there is one thing I have noticed about my kids. They are really good at sharing the spotlight. The meltdown spotlight that is. Usually I only have one freaking out at a time. The others may feel a meltdown coming on too but I guess the act of watching their sibling go through the motions is enough to sedate them. So Cindy and Eeoyre just watched. Eeoyre tried to play the "Look how good I am Mommy card" but I shot it down quick with glare and an eyebrow raise.

You will notice that I haven't mentioned Nanny yet this morning. Why would that be? Because I hadn't seen her yet. She had yet to emerge. Poppa went back to check on her and I could see she was still in her nightgown.

So it is 7:10 or so and I have been through what feels like a drawn out emotionally charged battle just to get my family ready for ropedrop and Nanny isn't even changed yet. The fury raged inside me. If I was Donald duck I would have had flames in place of my pupils.

"Just start walking to the bus without me" Nanny says.

Now I love Nanny to pieces but she is not exactly the fastest walker in our group. In fact she is the opposite. I spent many a day last year saying "Come on Nanny" or "Nanny-Keep up" as we traveled through the parks so I knew there was no way that Nanny would "catch up" to us as we walked to the bus stop. I also knew that I didn't want to physically see a bus for the MK stop and not be able to get on it.

DH pushed Jedi knight and took off like a flash due to all that frustrating and agitation. Poppa, Cindy and Eeoyre started walking more slowly. I took one look back and followed behind them.

We all found a seat at the bus stop. There was one other family there. I can't remember where they were going but it wasn't the MK like us.

A bus came. You'll never guess which bus it was. That's right folks. Our MK bus. The driver opened the door and asked

"Where are you heading folks?" (Don't you just love the way they toss around that word in the south? It gets me every time.)

DH told him we were waiting for someone and he said he had a minute. He'd sit tight. Eeoyre was dispatched down the path to check if Nanny was coming. I know we all hoped she would suddenly appear and off we would go on this empty bus to MK our own family fairy tale in the making.

I would love to write that Nanny arrived just in time and we made that first bus. But that would be a lie. My heart sank as the bus driver closed the door and drove off.

It was 7:15am. Were we going to make rope drop?:confused3

I love that in the pic with your dad you are all wearing a rainbow of Crocs

Funny my DSIL made that same comment as she took the picture for us.

where up North is the cottage?

The cottage is near Haliburton Ontario.

i want a deep fry turkey dinner...sounds good.

I'm glad it lives at the cottage. I'd be tempted to use it more than my waistline could take.

Seriously didn't even know that they sold hats with nets over them!!! You learn something new every day!

It's what keeps us young. The learning-not the hats.

Love the photos of your Thanksgiving weekend Diamond! The cottage looks so homey and cottagy. We too spent out Thanksgiving with at a cottage, my in-laws place near Orilla. The weather was amazing, our turkey, although not deep fried, was wonderful and so was the gravy!! I purposely did not bring the camera though. I have been feeling super lousy with this pregnancy and told DH that I was not running around after anyone for anything.

Was your DD surprised with her American Girl doll and accessories? I have to place my order for Christmas next week and I am so excited! Did you get their new winter catalouge yet? I haven't, but the website has it all.

How well did the matching jammies fit your DD? I want to get some for mine, but others have said the sizes run small. Did you find that?

I am all caught up with your TR now. Life has been getting in the way. I hope the rain stayed away for you. Can't wait for more photos!!

Suz

Cindy loved her doll. She got outfits from all the relatives and was in love for the whole weekend. Not so much once the week started again and with it school, dance, piano and Hockey. But she did talk about her doll (she named her Jenny) quite a bit. She had her party tonight so she is spending time with all her new goodies.

As you have probably noticed from photos Cindy is on the slender side (she soooo gets that from me LOL)and I often have to take in pants (love the slim options in some of the stores) but I didn't have to with the American Girl pj's. I had heard from some other mothers that the AG stuff runs on the slim side. I hadn't heard small just slim.

Yes, we have the new catalogue. In fact we get three sent to the house. Why I don't know? One to Cindy, one to me and one to DH. That's the one I find funny. Like DH wants an AG catalogue. He doesn't even want us to have one.

OMG, I can't believe your morning so far and you are only at the bus stop:scared1: No wonder you were drinking:woohoo: Did you have the Bailey's in your coffee already? I hope Nanny shows up soon. I know Queen would be exactly like you. She could never travel with my parents because they don't walk fast enough for her. We had a good time when we all went with my parents but I was pregnant at the time and in the thick of morning sickness so I didn't have huge expectations and it was a very relaxed Disney vacation, super slow, not alot of rides, more characters, it was different and very fun. Are there any pictures of the meltdowns or that's just better left in your head:rotfl2:
