A funny Mickey story - TITLE CHANGED

Oh come on - I don't for a minute thing the OP was being insensitive. Yes it is horrible what is happening over there - and I agree it makes me sick. But a story about snorkeling with Mickey was not meant any way other than a cute story. And how would you have titled it if you were just thinking - "I have to tell everyone this story"??

I'm sure that the OP meant no harm and I'm sure no one meant to flame.

When I saw the title I got a lump in my throat. It's just such a horrifying thing that's going on right now - everytime I open up CNN the word "beheading" jumps out at me and tears come to my eye.

Let's call the title an unfortunate coincidence and forget about it.

I didn't even think of that when I read the title of this post and I know full well what is going on in the world. I definitely think some are being hypersensitive.

I agree that while it may not have been intended, the title of the thread is insensitive in light of recent events.

I, too, wish the OP would edit the title of the thread.

It may be happening "over there", but it is happening to family members of people over here.

I also thought this was a truly funny story.
It seems some of us are stuck on the "Island of Negativity."

It was a memory shared, nothing more.

I am well aware of events happening in the world and actually get sick when I hear these stories - but to be honest I never connected the two -

I'm so sorry you feel like you need to lurk again but I also really appreciate that you changed the title of this thread. Thank you.

It's a VERY current and sensative subject right now with that British hostage's life still in question and the other 2 American's just having been murdered in that way yesterday and the day before and those poor Italian women as well. You who think some are being overly senstive should cut us some slack. We realize the OP didn't mean to be insensative with her title and I'm sure she didn't realize her title would cause such a ruckus. I, for one, tried to ask her nicely to change it in respect of the victums and their families and friends who could very well be DISERs...how do you think they'd feel if they saw the topic of this thread?

I really can't believe we have to debate whether on not her word in the subject line should have been edited or not. It should have been, IMHO, given the current situation in Iraq. Thank you again for changing it and I hope you stick around.

julia & nicks mom: I am so sorry that your attempt at sharing very funny store ended up being hurtful to you in the end. I saw both thread titles and didn't understand what the hub bub was about. I didn't take offense at the first thread title, at all. I am intune with world events, but took you story to be cute and funny and didn't take offense or thought it insenstive.

I am also very sorry that some overzealous Disers have scared you away from what can be a very fun place to hang out. Please don't just lurk. You seem like a very fun person to get to know, and the best way to do that is to post.

BeattyFamily - I do agree that you did ask me nicely to change the title of the thread but from the quote above - clearly they were attacking my character and I just think it is ridiculous!

I am really sorry that this has turned into a debate thread b/c I honestly just wanted to share a story with people who I thought would appreciate it the most and never thought for a second that my character would be called into question by people I don't even know

and for future reference - the nicest way to ask me to change the tilte would have been a pm - simply stating

I am sure that it never occured to you that the title of your thread might be upsetting to some but in light of recent beheadings in current events - you might want to consider changing it.

Which obviously I would have done and this thread would have stayed an amusing story

I wasn not going to respond to this thread but I decided I want to.

To the OP - I think that your thread was funny, and I did not associate it with world events either. I can understand why some would be upset, I was not because I know you obviously were not trying to offend anyone.

It is not funny and speaks volumes of apparent insensitivity.

I think that this quote speaks volumes about the person who posted it's ability to jump to conclusions, their quickness to judge, and their inability to seperate the word from the action.

The term behead has been around for ages and when someone beheads a human being as an act of terror it's awful and sick and my heart aches for the person and their families and for the world in general that this sort of thing happens. There are not even words to describe my disgust for what these monsters have done to these hostages.

But it's not the word "behead" that bothers me. It's the act. I'm sorry, but the act of beheading a Mickey mouse by accident while snorkeling is NOT the same as beheading a human being.

To even compare the two acts is appalling.

I feel like people can't say anything anymore. Heck, I'm shocked no one attacked JoNo for saying the story was "shot down in flames" .

julia & nicks mom - please stick around. Your story WAS quite funny
