Day 2 October 5
Our first official day in the World
Cast of Characters
DH = Hubby of Sound Mind - 31
Me = Freak 30
?? = character yet to be named (to be introduced today!)
We awoke early even though we did not set an alarm. The previous night, Hubby decided that we should go to a park that is not so busy on our first day. I was a bit put out that my carefully laid plans would be thrown to the wind, but I went along with it but insisted that we roll AK and MGM into one long day instead of MK. So we headed to the DTD bus stop and waited for the Animal Kingdom bus. And we waited and we waited some more. Im not sure if the bus really took that long or if it just felt like a long time. Anyway, it arrived and we headed out. On the bus, DH started talking about this cute stuffed Mickey that he saw advertised on the TV in the hotel. I, of course, knew exactly what he was talking about (thanks to the boards) but I let him talk. He suggested that we get it and give it to our friends son, J.C. I said, alright it sounds cute. When we made it to the AK, I made a bee line for the small shop outside the gates to get our very own Pal Mickey, who is now a member of our story. DH really didnt know that Pal Mickey is your own personal tour guide through the parks. He just thought it was a cute toy that played games with you but he was (and is) so much more. The CM in the store taught us all about him and how he will keep us informed and enchanted throughout our trip, which started at the AK. Amazingly, he downloaded (through his nose) all of the park information when we entered, and he immediately jiggled and welcomed us to the AK. CUTE!
As I mentioned, we had not been there before and enjoyed the lush greenery and cleverly themed areas. We started with Its Tough to be a Bug, loved it (with the obvious exception of the spiders), and was a little surprised to see so many kids in there. I would have thought it would be scary for the kids. We then got a FP for the safari and used our wait time to wander around the trail. We did the safari and decided that we were too excited to stay in the AK for much longer. And we were starving. Oh look here is another Rainforest Café! Once again, we ate here and loved it.
Now on to MGM. The bus to MGM was prompt (of course, since we are now using the Disney Bus service) and we made it to MGM in record time. Once again, we entered the gates and our Pal jiggled and giggled to welcome us here too. TOO COOL! We started by walking towards the Tower of Terror (totally my fave!) and I got a FP. Meanwhile, Pal was jiggling and explaining that we was a bit too scared to go on that ride. Since DH is not a fan of this one eight, I agreed to go on alone. But my FP time wasnt until about 3 hours later! But its way better than waiting in a 70 minute line! So again, we used some of the wait time to go on the Rockin Rollercoaster. There was hardly no wait for this so we were rockin and rollin after only about 15 minutes. This was our first time on this one and we loved the fact that it just takes off at the start. Very cool ride! After this, we zoomed around the park to do the Great Movie Ride, Catastrophe Canyon, One Mans Dream (a tear jerker in very comfy chairs), and Who Wants to be a Millionaire - Play it. Another first for us and I can see why people do this one over and over. How exciting! We only did it once, and the 2nd guy in the hot seat (both guys were from Orlando) made it to the very last question but got it wrong! Ugh but I did make it to #3 on the board at the very end. Not too shabby.
Then on to my favorite ride the Tower of Terror. Never a disappointment, but a bit different this time (version 4 or something). When my return time had come, all of the FPs were gone and the line was now up to 90 minutes! I joined with another single rider and we were able to walk right up to the front and we enjoyed some of the inside theming before starting the ride. To be honest, some of the riders on the non-FP line were glaring a bit. Folks, dont do this just because you didnt have the foresight to get a FP doesnt mean you have to shoot visual daggers at us smart people! But I digress. I Loved it, as usual, and he (the other single rider) might have a new favorite.
After the ride, it was pretty late and we were fairly pooped, so we decided to go back to DTD and grab some food. No, we didnt see Fantasmic. Im sad about that, but you just cant do it all there is TOO MUCH!
When we reached DTD, we decided that nothing appealed to us I mean we couldnt go back to Rainforest Café again not that it isnt yummy! So we hopped a bus and went to the Boardwalk and ate Big River Grille and Brewing Works. We arent beer drinkers, but the food was good and we had an almost front-row seat for the Epcot Illuminations. Nice end to our first day. But with the plans going awry, what would happen next? Would we do a fun park tomorrow?! Will the Freak EVER get to her favorite the MAGIC KINGDOM?!
