When your out driving with your DH/SO and you get lost would he stop and ask for directions, either immediately or later on when you have been driving around getting nowhere for ages?

Just wondered, as my DH hates asking anyone else. He would rather stop and buy a map in a petrol garage (gas station) but still not ask for help!

On saying that he did ask the last time we arrived in Orlando and couldn't find the right road that our hotel was on - that was the ONLY time though!!! :p

Well - it's always DH driving (even when we take my car - as he said he won't ride shotgun until he installs a break on that side. :rolleyes1)

however, when he "gets lost"...he's not "lost"...he's just taking the Scenic Route. He has an uncanny sense of direction and we've never been totally lost yet.

My hubby asks about 3/4 of the time and usually after frustration sets in.

My husband would rather drive around in circles than stop and ask for directions. But in the meantime, I get chewed out for not being accurate or telling him to turn to early/too late. You jsut have to understand he is a moron.

Jeff will stop.. as long as I am the one who gets out to go ask....

:rotfl:

My husband will NOT ask for help, directions, anything!!! I could pull my hair out!! If we get lost in a neighborhood or something, there are always people outside working on their lawns, etc....he won't roll down the window and ask for help  So, if any of you spot a stopped car in a neighborhood with a driver's side window down and a woman yelling (as she stretches across the driver  ) out the window, asking for directions.......that would be me!

Truly, I am blessed to have him....I have habits he hates too. ;) I guess the directions thing is a guy thing!

Buy him a GPS unit, my wife said to me this winter on the way back from Vermont, finally you bought a toy thats useful  . It was because it could tell me where the nearest restaurant was so she could "go". I got it so I dont get lost snowmobiling.

I'm a "passenger seat driver", so I learned to keep my mouth shut and let him figure out where he's going ;) Otherwise, I'll hear about it later.

Nope, but I won't stop and ask for directions either.:teeth: He and I both would rather stay lost than to admit to anyone we do or do not know that we're actually lost.;) I get lost very easily unless I have a road map. I may not can find my way in my local area, but I can find my way to Orlando just fine.;)

My DH is the driver and I'm the 'navigator' - SO if we get lost etc it's ME who has to ask for directions!

He will when we get so lost that I (as the navigator) refuse to try to "find our way out" and he is left with no other option! :scratchin

Dh's car has the play by play driving directions. I suspect if we were in my car he'd stop. I whine too much about stuff like that and I'd make him crazy! LOL:crazy:

My husband would prefer the Chinese torture test than stop and ask for directions. He's so silly.

I really just wanted to comment on this though:

I'm so glad to learn that garage means gas station in Brit-speak! :p I've heard this term so often, and often wondered why there are so many garages in the UK! Here a garage is either something that is attached to your house to keep your car in, or a place where mechanics work on cars.

(Thanks Belle! Back to your regularly scheduled program!)

To be honest it is very rare that we do get lost and DH is very good at reading maps and has a good sense of direction, unlike me!

We did find the road signs, or rather lack of them, in Orlando very confusing though. :confused3

My husband will stop and ask for directions. I usually don't even have to ask him to, he just decides on his own. I think it comes from the first time we drove to my sister's house in MD- we ended up in VA because the directions were wrong and even though it was very clear we weren't going the right way, he wouldn't stop for directions until we saw the Welcome to Virginia sign. Ever since then, he's had no problem stopping to ask for directions!!

My DH absolutely, positively will NOT ask for directions!!! He won't even admit he is lost- he says he is "temporarily misplaced". One time we went to Helen, GA, which is a little touristy town in the North Georgia mountains. He turned the wrong way onto the highway to get back to Atlanta, but wouldn't turn around. When I saw the "Welcome to NC' sign, I was so mad that he wouldn't listen to me and turn around that I just turned away and went to sleep!! I think it took us around three hours to get back home- it should have been about 45 minutes. But I love him- guess you've gotta take the good with the bad!
:hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

I usually end up driving, I hate letting someone else drive my van and DH's car is a commuter and I refuse to ride in it (no a/c and I'm too pregnant to get in and out of the dang thing without a large piece of machinery to drag my butt out!)

He almost always has the laptop with him and he's got streets and maps on it. So he'll look stuff up and I drive.

If he's alone in the car he calls me to look up directions for him, with that said, the man gets lost all the time! He's been here for years and still doesn't know his way around.
