A First-Timer's Take: 12/28-1/8 with Deluxe Dining! New: Boma

I was under the impression for some reason that a pizza was 2 credits total, so I was a little upset when I was told it would be 2 credits each, but I figured we could just go without a breakfast here or there to make up for it.

Great reviews so far! I just wanted to say that I think just the pizza might be two credits total at some of the resorts, but since you got an appetizer and dessert (or maybe just because of the resort where you stayed) it counted as private in-room dining, which is a "signature" experience - 2 credits each.

Ordering just a pizza at CSR is two adult TS credits.

Anyway, love the pictures and can't wait to read the rest of your reviews!

I'm joining in too, looking forward to more!

Great reviews, joining in! :thumbsup2

count me in! :surfweb:

Hi, thanks for reading! :goodvibes

Hmmmm, I dunno. She told me it would be 2 credits each after I had only ordered a pizza, but I had told her we were on the deluxe plan so maybe she assumed I would also be ordering appetizers and desserts? :confused3 If we ever order pizza again I think I would try and get it for 2 credits, we certainly didn't need all the extras anyway!

Anyhow, thanks for joining in!

Our dinner that night was at Artist Point, and it turned out to be one of our favorite meals of the trip :cloud9: We arrived about 10 minutes before our 8:25 ADR and were seated right away. Our waiter congratulated us on our honeymoon and offered us a free champagne toast, which of course we accepted! I wish I had taken a picture of the champagne, because they even put raspberries in it--delicious!

For an appetizer, Dan ordered the Artisan cheese plate (not a great pic, sorry).
P1010090.jpg

From left to right, there is an aged cheddar, Echo Mountain blue cheese, and Midnight Moon, which I believe is a goat's cheese. This came with walnut toast, honeycomb, fig jam, and...I have no idea what the stuff in the middle is! Anyway, we both loved it all! The cheddar had a nice sharp flavor, and the goat's cheese was nice and creamy. For the extras, Dan especially liked the fig jam. His only complaint was that he would have liked more walnut toast.

I had the mixed greens salad
P1010091.jpg

This had a balsamic dressing, candied hazelnuts, bits of pear, and cheese on top (don't remember what kind). It was sooo yummy! The sweet hazelnuts and pears went great with the balsamic dressing.

Dan had their Cedar Plank Roasted Pacific King Salmon
P1010092.jpg

This came with broccolini, and ... okay, I also don't remember what that cake thing was :headache:. Anyway, he LOVED this! It was brought out hot on the cedar plank and transferred to his plate right in front of us. Not that he's had a ton of salmon, but Dan said this was the best salmon he'd ever had. At first he told me he liked the cake of (maybe something potato?) but later decided it was fairly bland.

I had the grilled beef tenderloin
P1010093.jpg

This came with roasted potatoes and spinach, with a port wine reduction and a blue cheese fritter on top. The beef was tender and cooked perfectly, and I loved the sauce. The cheese fritter was yummy and went very well with the steak and wine sauce, but I ate very small pieces of it because it overpowered the taste of the meat when I had too much cheese. And I love me some spinach and potatoes, so of course I gobbled those up!

For dessert I had double chocolate cheesecake, mmmm! (We had already dug into these before I remembered to take pics)
P1010094.jpg

This came on top of a shortbread cookie, with raspberry coulis and a Grand Marnier mousse with candied orange. The cheesecake was good but very rich. The mousse was amazing, so light and sweet and delicious! There was candied orange peel and sugar on top. It balanced out the super-rich chocolate very well. In fact, though I loved the cheesecake, I would have been perfectly happy just having that mousse for dessert, it was so yummy!

Dan ordered the fig and goat cheese tart
P1010096.jpg

This came with huckleberry ice cream, which I thought tasted like blueberry, kind of a sweet berry. This tart was SO good. It was creamy and just sweet enough and I would definitely recommend this to anyone. If this is on the menu when you eat there, get it!

We loved Artist Point. I don't recall the name of our server, but he was very attentive, and the courses were nicely timed. I never felt rushed, nor like I was waiting too long for my food. The atmosphere in the restaurant was great too. I don't know if it was the time of night, but there were hardly any kids in the restaurant which made for a relaxed, quiet meal. We'll definitely eat here again!

Cost: $127.80, 4 credits

thanks for a wonderful review on Artist Point...I'm so glad you liked it b/c we never tried it and read 2 great reviews in the past 2 days so I added it to our next Disney trip ADR's. What your husband got is probably what my husband would get...he loves cheese sampler and loves salmon. We go to CP lunch time so he can get the salmon at the buffet.

That is the third incredible review of AP that I have drooled over...I need to put that on the list for our next trip!

Happy to see another great review of Artist Point! It was definitely the best meal of our last trip!

On the 30th we had lunch at Restaurant Marrakesh. We arrived about 10 minutes late for our ADR but were seated almost immediately anyway.

Dan got a coke, and I had the Moroccan mint tea
P1010097.jpg

The tea was wonderful. I imagine it would have been even better on a hot Florida day (so not the case when we were there!). I'm not a big soda drinker, so I usually have water or iced tea at restaurants, and I prefer my tea unsweetened. This was minty and refreshing and just very, very slightly sweet, so I liked it very much.

They brought bread
P1010098.jpg

I'm not sure what kind it is, but Dan and I both enjoyed it and ate quite a bit. It reminded me just a tiny bit of challah bread.

Dan's appetizer isn't listed on the menus online, but it says on our receipt it was called Cheese Sails.
P1010102.jpg

This was goat's cheese with a cracker that I can best compare to a pita chip. It was drizzled with balsamic and another orange sauce that our server said was a pepper sauce. Dan loved this and has told everyone at home about the wonderful "Moroccan nachos" he had

I got the Taste of Morocco/Berber Feast, so my appetizer was the jasmina salad
P1010100.jpg

This was tomato, cucumber, and I believe feta cheese with a mustard dressing. The veggies tasted fresh and crisp, and I love feta, so I quite enjoyed this salad. However, there was WAY too much dressing and it had a very strong mustard flavor, so I mostly avoided that.

Dan ordered Lemon Chicken (bad pic, sorry)
P1010104.jpg

This was pretty basic roast chicken; I didn't get too much out of Dan about it, but he ate most of it so I think he liked it :confused3 A good dish for someone who may not be a very adventurous eater, I suppose :)

My entree was a combo plate with lamb, a chicken kabob, and vegetable couscous
P1010103.jpg

The lamb was pretty fatty and I didn't eat much of it, but the sauce/juice was very good. The chicken kabob was good and had a nice flavor to it; the chicken was a bit dry but the mushrooms on the kabob were absolutely delicious! I LOVE couscous, and this was cooked perfectly. It came with carrot, zucchini, tomato, and garbanzo beans, all of which were also cooked perfectly. I think if we ate here again, I would just order a whole plate of couscous :lovestruc

Dan was full and not too enticed by any of the desserts so didn't order one, but baklava came with my "feast" so I had that. I didn't take a picture, but it looked like baklava you might see anywhere. It also tasted just like other baklava I've had: ridiculously sweet! This was good baklava, but it's just too sweet of a dessert for me to eat more than a few bites.

Overall, we had a good experience here. The belly dancer performed partway through our meal, which was kinda cool to watch. This is not the best food in the park, but we both enjoyed most of what we got, and I like to eat something a little different now and then. I would eat here again, but I might be biased because of my love for couscous

Cost: $70.03, 2 credits

I don't have any pictures of this meal :guilty: so I'll start off with a really bad picture of the restaurant, then jump right in to the review!
P1010134.jpg

So there it is, San Angel....as seen through the not-so-fabulous lens of my camera, haha

Since I don't have any pictures, I'll go ahead and give you the description of the dish as provided by allears, along with my review.

For appetizers, I ordered the Sopa Azteca, "traditional tortilla soup with avocado, cheese and pasilla pepper." It had a very tomato-y flavor, which I like, and I'm a big avocado fan so I enjoyed the avocado in it, but overall I thought this soup was pretty bland.

Dan had the tostadas de tinga, "fried corn tortillas topped with black beans, lettuce, onions, advocado, tomato marinated chicken, sour cream, and fresh cheese." I don't quite remember, but I think this also had cilantro on it, which I point out because I HATE cilantro. Dan, however, loves it, and he loved this appetizer. For most meals, it was hard to get more out of him than "it's good," but he raved about how delicious this appetizer was.

We both ordered the pollo a las rajas as our entrees, "grilled chicken breast served over red peppers, onion strips, cream sauce, and fresh cheese." This chicken was well cooked and I thought the sauce was very good, but as this was an early dinner we were both just too full to really eat much of it.

Dan had flan for dessert, which he seemed to enjoy, but I tasted it and thought it was lumpy. I ordered the vanilla bean ice cream with Mexican caramel sauce. The ice cream had a good vanilla flavor, but it had a fair amount of ice chunks in it, like it had melted and been refrozen, and there was hardly any caramel sauce (but it was tasty!).

Living in California, we have a surplus of Mexican restaurants (and, ya know, taco trucks), but most of them are the fully-loaded-nachos, beans-and-rice, burritos-as-big-as-your-face variety, so I think Dan was expecting something a little different when I told him we were having Mexican for dinner. Our meal here was okay, and we both like Mexican food a lot, so we would try San Angel again, but I think we might prefer some of their lunch offerings, as they seem to have a few more familiar items then.

As far as the restaurant itself, I found it to be a little louder than other places we ate at, probably because it's not in its own building. The service was very good; our waiter was quite attentive and helped us settle a debate over how to say "I'll have the same" in Spanish (I was right, just so everyone knows ;))

So overall, we would eat here again, but I would not be terribly upset if we had to skip it.

Cost: I don't have the exact amount, but it was about $95, 2 credits.

On New Year's Eve Day, I had an ADR for 8:05am at Crystal Palace, but we (*cough*Dan*cough*) were having trouble getting up in time for our lunch ADRs, and I didn't want to be tired and grumpy all day since we were planning on staying in Magic Kingdom past midnight, so I switched to a 10:05 ressie at Whispering Canyon and crossed my fingers that Magic Kingdom wouldn't reach capacity before we got there!

We had about a 15 minute wait to be seated, which was the longest of our whole trip (not too bad!).

I didn't take pics of the drinks, but I had coffee (which was terrible), and Dan had cranberry juice (which was fine).

I ordered pancakes with bacon, after which our server asked, "Do you want chocolate chip pancakes?" Ummm....YES!!! :woohoo:
P1010178.jpg

The pancakes were scrumptious :thumbsup2 The bacon wasn't very good, but I never expect good bacon on vacation. We're extra-thick bacon types, and the stuff you get at restaurants is always paper-thin and either way too crispy or undercooked, fatty and gross, IMHO.

Dan got the Western Omelette with a biscuit and breakfast potatoes
P1010179.jpg

The omelette was quite good, it had a lot of filling and cheese and was cooked well. The biscuit was pretty much just a biscuit. The potatoes were okay, but some of them were undercooked.

On our way out, Dan just couldn't resist playing with the Lincoln Logs
P1010181.jpg

Whispering Canyon was pretty good. And it's a fun place to eat, especially if you have children. They had a stick horse race around the restaurant while we were there. Our server, Cajun Chad, was good but not as animated as many of the others. He would do things like bring out our butter and syrup before the meal and say "in case you get hungry before breakfast" in his slow drawl :) A lot of the others were yelling across the room and heckling their patrons.

So anyway, overall we enjoyed our breakfast here and would definitely eat here again if we stayed at Wilderness Lodge. Otherwise, I'm not sure we would make the trip for breakfast, but I would be interested in coming to WCC for dinner.

Oh, and we did manage to get in to Magic Kingdom when we showed up at 11:30am :goodvibes

Cost: $31.48, 2 credits
