A first for us

checked in at BCV and were sent to our room. 170 - quiet pool/canal view, perfect for parking and walked in. Completely overwhelmed by the smoke smell. I mean overpowering smell. My daughter became instantly uncomfortable and had a hard time breathing.

We called right away and were transferred to a room across the hall. Normally we just take what we get, but it was insane. Sad thing is I don't think they ever did anything about it in terms of cleaning - we saw another couple come out of the room later that night.

That was a first for us in all our years here. It was nuts though - I had a headache for hours from just being in the room for 10 minutes. It took Mary Hadley a while to feel better after we moved. It was a shock to say the least.

Cigarette smoke or wildfire smoke?

Honestly it was more cigar/pipe - definitely not wildfire. Someone was clearly smoking in the room. Rm 169 - immediately across the hall was fine. The hallway was honestly a little smokey right around the door for a day or two, but that has dissipated.

On our way out to the pool this morning we finally saw a maintenance rep over there. He was pretty blown away by it too. Not sure if the couple they put there changed out or what - haven't seen them since Thursday night. Maintenance CM said someone was going to be getting a cleaning bill.... It was really pretty horrific.

We don't generally make requests over here - its kind of like VWL to us. Some are better than others, none are spectacular enough to worry about and at some point its our turn to have the room at the end of the hall and just be thankful we can walk it. I'm never really blown away by service here though. The DVC aspect of BC has always felt like an unwanted family addition of sorts. We bought here when they were building it and its always felt like that.

We saw the fire that shut down I-4 as we were leaving Studios the other day, but never smelled it.

That's really awful about the smoke smell! Totally empathetic since smells of different types like smoke and heavy perfumes can give me a bad headache too especially in a confused space like a closed room or an elevator.

I must be really out of it but who is Mary Hadley?

So sorry that happened to you. I can get an immediate headache that will last for a day or more with smoke smells, it is always worse when it is a cigar or pipe for some reason. Hope you recovered quickly.

As someone who is toying w/ buying DVC, I'm curious did he mean that the owner of the points who was in that room will be billed for cleaning/desmoking it?
If the points owner had rented to a stranger, would the owner be billed and have to seek reimbursement from the person they rented to?

Whoever was staying in the villa - someone on points (member or renter) or cash guest. And if the renter doesn't pay, the member will.
