I couldn't find the answers to the follow questions so help me out if you can or point me to threads with the answers if that's easier. :)

The situation: Family of 5 (one under age 10, 4 over) with 5 day park hoppers; trip is planned for next month. We'll be down at DL for 6 or 7 days (travel half day and pool day). We were planning on going to the park 5 full days and spend a day at the DLH pool (we're staying there one night; off site the rest of the time). We'd also have half a day when we first get to town. So, my wife came up with a plan where we use a few days of the 5 day hoppers and then upgrade to APs so we could spend a little time at the park on the pool and arrival days. We'd then go back to DLR at the last week of our APs in 2016 (and probably another short trip somewhere in the middle). For our group the cost of APs is about equal to two sets of 5 day park hopper tickets. Now, here are the questions:

1) When you upgrade park hoppers to APs, can you use the payment plan? Would the value of the park hopper be used toward or as the down payment? (we are California residents). The 5 day tickets were bought through the Disneyland website via a link from my union.

2) When you upgrade from 5 day tickets to APs, when does the AP time start? If I started using 5 day tickets on August 1st and on August 5th, upgraded to APs, would the APs be valid until August 5th the next year or would it be the 1st?

3) Do you get AP discount on Blue Bayou Fantasmic dinner package?

Thanks in advance, everyone!

1. Yes, you can use the payment plan. We did this at one of the ticket booths in 2013 with no problem.
2. AP time started on the first day we used the 5 day hopper.
3. Can't help you with this one.

Not sure about this but I think the answer is yes since you are California residents. I think whatever you actually paid for the parkhoppers will be applied as your down payment and the remainder due will be divided up into equal payments. I have no actual experience with how this works though.

August 1st

Yes

If you're planning to buy Deluxe, make sure there are no block out dates after you plan to upgrade. There are 2 blocked Saturdays in August, and if your trip next year will be in late July there will also be blocks.

I would actually call to make sure about upgrading to annual passes from park hoppers and still using the payment plan. Likely what you already paid can be used as the down payment and they'll split the rest into monthly payments but I would double check first. There's a number for annual passholders you can find on the main website. There are some rules specific to payment plans so I would double check first so you aren't surprised.

Your AP is definitely good for the BB F! package and at all restaurants and stores in the parks and most in Downtown Disney. Keep this in mind when planning - if you think you'll upgrade you'll just want to do this from the get go so that you don't have days without the discount. It's probably best to upgrade on your first day. We bought our passes a few years ago at the ticket booths and the process was easy and pretty quick - so simply done on your first travel day in. Plus you'll get passes into the parks that night even if it's a block out day and your pass starts the next day.

The 5 day tickets were bought through the Disneyland website via a link from my union. THIS IS WHAT I DID! THE PRICE I PAID FOR THE 5 DAY HOPPER WAS APPLIED TO THE TOTAL OF THE DELUXE AND THEN THE DIFFERENCE WAS DIVIDED INTO 12 EQUAL PAYMENTS. NOTE THAT THE FIRST OF THE 12 PAYMENTS CAME OUT OF MY ACCOUNT JUST A FEW DAYS AFTER I UPGRADED.

2) When you upgrade from 5 day tickets to APs, when does the AP time start? If I started using 5 day tickets on August 1st and on August 5th, upgraded to APs, would the APs be valid until August 5th the next year or would it be the 1st? IT IS THE DATE THAT YOU FIRST USED YOUR HOPPER.

To add on a question. I'm planning on using 5 day park hoppers (bought at the park) because we want to go on or around Thanksgiving and Friday & Saturday are blocked. If I upgrade on Saturday morning before we go to the park do we still get park admission that day even though it's a blackout day?

I'd wait until the next day but we may want to do the Fantasmic dining package at BB Saturday night.

Thanks for any info!

Yes, but you have to tell them you're going into the park. The AP itself won't scan saying it's valid that day, you'll need an additional pass from the ticket booth.

This is great info. I'm skipping a year of APs because the rest of the family wants to go somewhere else for once and taking the kids for Christmas 2016, so I was just about to ask about the 5-day ticket and APs. I think we will be using this method as well. Does anyone have the break-down for what the cost per month for the APs would be after already purchasing the 5-day ticket outright?

Just as an FYI!

One thing to note about the payment plan, that my brother learned the hard way... Your deposit does not count as your first payment. He was a bit surprised to put the initial money down and then get hit with the first monthly installment right away.
