A few room service/dining related questions

We will be on the Dream in three weeks and I have a few last minute questions. (1) what are the hours for the buffet. I know they aren't open 24/7. (2) can you get anything you want from Room Service? My son hopes to be able to get a large amount of veggies during the day to snack on and he's wondering if he would get that from the buffet (to take back to the room) or from room service (3) is Room Service free except for the gratuity. (4) What is the suggested gratuity for Room Service. Thanks!

1. Breakfast is typically 6 or 7-10:30AM, lunch, noon-2 or so, and dinner 6-8 or so. The Daily Navigator will have hours. Dinner is not a full buffet.

2. Not really. There is a service menu. The foods are generally included in your rate, but packaged beverages are a charge. If he wants a bunch of veggies, he is likely better off nicking from the buffet. There is a fruit bowl and a cheese plate: http://disneycruiselineblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/DCL-Room-Service-Menu-2016-Revised.jpg

3. Not everything. Candy and packaged drinks are an upcharge.

4. Couple bucks. Bring singles.

I like having singles. I always tip restaurants in cash too. Having cash vs. having to get payout is a big deal.for some tipped labor. Likely less so on a boat, but it is my habit.

Note that Cabanas is not a buffet for dinner. It is a sit-down restaurant with MDR menu items, with a carving station and (I think) a salad bar. I wouldn't assume that you can get veggies from the buffet after lunch.

You might find one of the pool deck snack shops has fruit/veggies available as well, though. Also, the Room Service menu snippets listed on the DCL page (https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/onboard-activities/room-service/) does include "Fresh salads and appetizers", so you might be able to get them to modify that into a plate of veggies.

And Cabanas is not open at all for dinner on the first or last night.

I believe that one of the pool deck places has fruit and veggies (the one that serves sandwiches and wraps). Even if they just use them for sides with the sandwiches, you'd be able to ask for just that.

Room Service Tips: We bring pre-made envelopes w/ a couple of dollars already in them for the tips. We have never received anything from room service to sign or add a tip to. Usually our order is coffee, and they get 1 envelope. If our order is larger, we will give them a couple of envelopes. This makes it easy and fast for us.

BTW, I have an old jeans pocket that I decorated and added magnets to that hangs on the wall by the door so the room service delivery person can just grab an envelope on their way out the door. They do not linger at all.

If Cabanas I'd. It a buffet at dinner time, do waiters come around and take your order? Or are you able to get your own food? Also, are you seated by wait staff, or do you just find your own table? Thanks for any info. I'm surprised to hear it offers the same food as in the MDRs.

It's like a regular restaurant. You are seated and given a menu (which is pretty much a mix of the MDR menus). Beyond that I don't know because I left when I saw it was like they put my least favorite menu items all on there.

Yes, the host seats you and a waiter takes your order from the menu, which features selections from what the MDRs are serving that evening.

It's my understanding that there's also a salad bar and a carving station. Is that not correct?

Our only experiences with dinner in Cabanas were on the Fantasy. No carving station or salad bar. I wonder what the situation is on the classics now.

The main difference between Cabanas for dinner and the MDRs is that you don't have to arrive at a set time for Cabanas. For the MDR, you have a set time (like 5:45 for Main seating or 8:15 for late seating). For Cabanas you can arrive any time during their dinner hours. This can be a good option if can't make your scheduled time.

Daisy's Delights on the Wonder has fruit available every day. If he wants veggies, it's easier to get a bowl at the buffet and keep in your room and for a late night snack you can usually go to one of the adult areas and get veggies from the appetizers they put out at night, usually includes veggies and dip but it is an adult area so you would have to get them for him.
