Finally getting around to my dining report. We ended up not eating out as much this trip as youll see later. But it was a great trip none the less and I am already planning our December trip.
So .we arrived Sat May 5 about 2 pm. We made record time in just over 9 hours. No traffic jams! We stay at FW Cabins and have the DDE card. We usually eat out once per day and eat the rest of our meals and snacks at the cabin.
Cast is me, 51 for 10 more days, DH 52, DD turned 20 on Mothers Day and DDs BoyFriend turning 20 in 12 days. We come at least 2 times per year and have been coming since DD was 3. Lots of nostalgia on this trip.
Since we arrived early enough to get some good park time in we went over to MK. Thats my favorite way to start a trip. So our main objective was to ride. For dinner we stopped at Pecos Bills because it wasnt crowded and DD loves chili cheese fries! DH and I each had cheeseburgers. Pretty dry but good toppings bar. DD had taco salad. She let me try it and I liked it too. All DDBF wanted was the chili cheese fries then he added a kids chicken salad with carrots and a cookie. Yeah we know hes 19 but its what he wanted! Loved his chili cheese fries and cookie. He said the salad was ok and carrots are, you know, carrots.
Day 2Our plans were to go to AK to ride EE and see Nemo. Well, for some reason Nemo was cancelled at the last minute for the rest of the day so we had an early lunch at Rainforest Café. We just walked up about 11 and were seated in about 10 minutes. We got the Awesome Appetizer that had big blue crab dip (good), chimi cha chas (good), Calamari (surprisingly good), and chicken tenders (good). I had a crab cake sandwich with chips. The crab cake was good but the bun was just too much bread. After I took off the bottom bun it was much better. DH had Bambas BBQ wrap with beef. He liked it all right but said the bbq he makes is better. Both DD and DBF had the Blue Mountain chicken sandwich. They both liked them as well. We decided it would have been better to get the appetizer platter and a pizza and share rather than have all the sandwiches. This night was EMH for MK so we ate dinner at the cabin ..TACOS, big hit.
Day 3We had lunch ressies for Biergarten. This is one of our favorites but we skipped it last trip in December. Today it was REALLY good. Our ressies were for 2 and we were seated in about 5 minutes. We were seated with a young couple with a toddler and a beautiful brand new baby. They had also been here before. Everything was fresh and hot. They did not have the chicken schnitzel but had pork schnitzel instead. DD pronounced that as her favorite. Everyone had a little bit of everything. One of my favorite things here is the tomato salad. The tomatoes just taste SO fresh! Also very good this day was the pork loin. DH also got the beer flight which is a sampling of 4 different beers.
EMH at MGM this night! Not crowded at all and loads of fun. When we were in the planning stages I asked everyone to pick one restaurant they wanted to eat at most. So those are all included. Biergarten was my choice. DH said I want beanie weenies and cherry cobbler so thats what we had tonight; grilled hot dogs, baked beans and cherry cobbler when we got back from the park.
Day 4I had to go to Tampa on this day so my lunch was Swedish meatballs over noodles at the Moffitt Cancer Center Cafeteria. Ugh, how exciting. But it was only $3.50 so I cant complain too much.
In the meantime, the rest of the crew slept in and went to the pool so didnt eat lunch. But we had a ressie for Boma for dinner. This was DBFs pick. We went for the first time at Christmas and although we liked it we werent overly impressed. But it was GREAT this night. DH is not a very adventurous eater but he found enough to keep him happy. I had 2 servings of prime rib. The first was WONDERFUL; rare the way I like it. Very tasty. The second serving was more medium and a little dried out. They also had flank steak that they grilled first and then put in a pot of some kind of hot marinade or sauce. The rarer steak was great. The last time we were here the squash soup was not on the menu but it was this night! I loved it. The combination of sweet in a hot soup was great. They also had a crab bisque type soup which was also wonderful. Everyone tried a little bit of everything and agreed it was better this time. Of course we saved room for dessert. And again it was great. I REALLY like the zebra domes!
Day 5We slept in and then went back to Animal Kingdom to finally catch Nemo. We love that show. I made them all eat sandwiches before we went to the park so we wouldnt snack because we had ressies for Ohana for dinner! This was DDs pick and her favorite restaurant. Our ressie was for 8:30 and we were seated around 9:00. It was pretty busy up until we were seated and then the crowd thinned out. In our past experiences here we were seated near the windows. This time we were seated on the other side of the fire pit but at a table for 6 which was nice since there was more room for the food. The food came out at a pretty fast pace but that didnt bother us too much. We just let it sit there and ate at our own pace. Everybody knows the menu Chips, and dips, salad, wings, shrimp, potatoes, veggies & meat. We got seconds of the wings (my favorite) and the potatoes. DD asked for this which was surprising since she usually has no interest in cheesy potatoes. I dont really care for their shrimp or the vegetables They were actually a little slow bringing around the meat. The steak we got was medium and I like it rarer so just ok. The sausage was just ok. The turkey and pork were both really good. And we all love the peanut sauce best. Then of course the bread pudding. We ate 2 of those!
Day 6We slept in again and went over to DTD to wander and shop. We stopped at Earl of Sandwich for lunch. I had the Original. I always get the Original (roast beef and creamy horseradish sauce). It has always been great but this time not so much. It was still good but needed more horseradish sauce I think. there didnt seem to be as much emat as usual either. Next time I will try something new. DH got the scudetto (salami, capicola, ham and mortadella, mozzarella). I got a taste of that, very good. DD had Hawaiian BBQ (BBQ ham, pineapple, grilled chicken, swiss cheese) It is one of her favorites. DBF had the adult grilled cheese which had 2 kinds of cheese and a bunch of bacon. He liked it. Good lunch. I was starting to feel punky so we went back to the cabin. We went to the pool and then grilled steak and salmon for dinner and had tons of toasted marshmallows!
Day 7 & 8I caught a cold!!! So I pretty much stayed in and sneezed and laid around not sleeping for those two days. The rest of the crew went out and ate at ABC Commissary at MGM. They didnt complain about it like several of the reports I have read recently. They had Cheeseburgers and chicken curry. They also ate at Sunshine Seasons and had asian food. DD always tries to eat here and enjoys it very much.
Day 9Our last day. By mid afternoon I was feeling better and we planned to hit MK EMH. So we finished our trip as we began it at Pecos Bills. Cheeseburgers all around and extra chili cheese fries. We got back from EMH around 1:30 am and left for home about 4:00 am because I had to be at work by 3! Not fun.
I didnt get to eat at Trails End this trip. I try to hit breakfast and dinner there once each trip. I will be looking for some new different places for our Christmas trip so keep writing those reviews!
