Hi, I'm new here :)

We have booked to go to Port Orleans Riverside in late september/early october for 2 weeks.

What is the weather generally like this time of year?

I have been to WDW as a kid, but Nij hasn't ever been so we are reading up as much as possible about how to tackle the parks! I have loads of random questions I am hoping someone can answer! i'll start with some basic ones!

1 - are the fastpass things beside the entrances to their respective rides?

2 - what is a churro?!?!

Hi, I'm new here :) WELCOME!:welcome:

We have booked to go to Port Orleans Riverside in late september/early october for 2 weeks.

What is the weather generally like this time of year? Hot and humid with a good chance of rain showers. It is also hurricane season, but we've been many times at this time of year and never encountered one.

1 - are the fastpass things beside the entrances to their respective rides?Generally beside or very close to the entrances. They are well marked. Just look for the signs.

2 - what is a churro?!?!
Heaven in stick form. Seriously, its a deep fried dough (sort of like a doughnut or funnel cake) shaped like a stick that is then coated with sugar and cinnamon. mmgood.

:welcome: to the DISboards, Bexandnij!

- It's warm, but not as oppressive as july/august
- it's rainy, but not terrible, unless there's a tropical storm

The best way to get the majority of your answers is to get a copy of the Unofficial Guide to Disney World.

IMHO it has the best laid out unbiased info on the parks, lodging and touring.

No I don't work for them. I have been many times, and still use both the book and their phone app every time I go.

I truly believe if you are going to a potentially crowded place and dropping anywhere from $1000 up on a vacation, it's worth your time to read up.

And I heartily second Whacked's recommendation about the Unofficial Guide. :cool1::thumbsup2We've used them for longer than I can remember (I dimly recall the first one had only 2 parks!) And we still refer to them, and now use the online site. Great Info.

Also browse through all the different sites and forums here. I was already a Disney vet (WDW, DL, DLP) with over 15 trips before I found the DISboards, and was amazed and delighted by the wealth of info to be found here.

Now half the fun (well, not really, but almost;)) is spending time here while I research our next trip!

Hi, I'm new here :)

Hello, and welcome aboard!

We have booked to go to Port Orleans Riverside in late september/early october for 2 weeks.

We've stayed at POR twice now, both trips in the end of August, beginning of September, and absolutely loved it. I prefer the Alligator Bayou to the mansions just a bit, because of the lush plantings.

What is the weather generally like this time of year?

I would expect the weather to be pretty similar to what we got in early September. Hot, humid, and the potential for a storm nearly every day, but they usually don't last very long.

I have been to WDW as a kid, but Nij hasn't ever been so we are reading up as much as possible about how to tackle the parks! I have loads of random questions I am hoping someone can answer! i'll start with some basic ones!

1 - are the fastpass things beside the entrances to their respective rides?

Yes, for the most part, they are very close to the entrance to the ride. Do keep in mind that not every ride has fast passes.

2 - what is a churro?!?!

A little slice of heaven lol As others have said, and shown, it's a fried dough stick, with cinnamon and sugar on it. My kids absolutely love them. I sometimes sneak a bite, shhh don't tell my doctor lol.

Thanks for all your replies!! :)

Next random question - it is considered bad form for 2 adults with no kids to go on the dumbo ride?!?!

Oooh - thought of another one!!

I'm not quite clear on fastpasses yet! Can you in theory run around the park as soon as you get in and grab a fastpass for every fastpass ride in that park and then gradually work your way back round and ride them, or can you only have one waiting at a time?

Also - from what I can gather, you get a window in which to use each fastpass, but some people have mentioned using them after their window has closed - it this right? If som why is there an end to the window?! (or am i just overanalyzing?!?!)

The fastpass will say on it when you can get another. Most people do not have a problem using FP after the expiration, but it has happened. The idea of the window is to give you the fastest entrance. If you go later, you could be in line with all of the people in that window, plus all the people who chose to come later. Not usually a problem, but that is why FP works. The crowds are chopped up into time slots.

Absolutely not! Everyone can be a kid at WDW.

Yes, you can use it anytime after the start time, and yes, you're over-anylizing ;)
