A Few Questions...

Hi everyone....

I just got the hardcover DVC information book in the mail today, but I still have a few questions:

1. I know that BCV is all sold out, but what are the chances of getting a membership there?

2. Does it matter what your home resort is? Can you buy in at SSR with a lower price per point and never stay there? Why wouldn't everyone do this?

3. When looking at the points chart, lets say one of the resorts was 13 points for Sun-Thurs. Is that price per night? So like 13points x 4nights? And when you look at the weekly price it could be something like 120 points. Is this per night or for the whole week?

Thanks for helping me with all my questions. It's really hard deciding wether or nit this is the right choice for us.

1) Your guide will not volunteer the information, but, yes, you can still buy at BCV. Minimum initial purchase is still 150 points, I think it is at $95 point. You will probably need to go on a waitlist, maybe for months, but it can be done.
2) The advantage to your home resort is that you can book there at 11 months out, whereas everybody else has to wait until the 7 month window. Some times of the year that may not matter, but at key times that 11 month home resort booking period will be to your advantage. Make sure wherever you buy that you will be happy staying there. Could you buy SSr and never stay there, it is possible, again depending on time of the year you vacation, but not probable.
3) Yes those points are per night. or for the entire week. You will notice that there is no discount for the week, it is just the individual nights added together.

Keep asking your questions.
And remember that SSR expires in 2054, vs. the other resorts in 2042.
Good luck.

Trying to answer after each question. Hope this helps.

Yes you just have to wait and go through Disneys process.

Ypu can buy anywhere and stay anywhere, but your booking window is 11 months at your home resort and only 7 months at other resorts. Depending on when you want to go and which room type you want you might not have any problems at 7 months. That is what we did and have had no problems yet.

120 is for the week.

Welcome to the DIS/DVC Board! :)

1) BCV is available thru DVC even though it is sold out. You may have to go on a waitlist as contracts may be limited at some resorts.

2) You may reserve at your home resort 11 months in advance and at other resorts 7 months ahead. Your ability to reserve at the other resorts within 7 months is entirely based on availability. In most cases, you will be able to get a reservation 7 months ahead - but that is not guaranteed. If that will be an issue, it's best to purchase where you really want to stay

3) Yes, the point charts are per night. Weeknights are about half of the points needed for weekends (Fri and Sat). The weekly rate is for 7 nights.

Welcome to the DVC boards!

1. You can purchase BCV directly from Disney for $95/point. There is a waiting list and some people have waited quite a while (weeks, months) for points. On the other hand, some people have told their guide they will take any Use Year and got points at BCV within a couple of weeks. You can also purchase BCV on the resale market. Click on the "DVC Resales" link at the top of the page to see the listings available at The Timeshare Store, this board's sponsor. BCV is the only resort that will probably cost you more by going resale but you can probably get your points more quickly that way than through Disney, particularly if you want a particular Use Year that isn't available at the moment.

2. I think home resort matters. DVC is growing and many people do "buy where they want to stay" so that they can lock in their reservations at their preferred resort prior to the 7-month window. That leaves less and less availability for those who have to wait until 7 months out to book at those resorts. This is most problematic at the smaller resorts (BCV and VWL) and for the BWV's standard view and boardwalk view villas. If you buy SSR but you really want to stay at BCV most of the time, you will be disappointed more often than not. If you don't care where you stay and/or you cannot make vacation plans earlier than 7 months out then buy where you can get the best deal. If you only go to WDW at times that are very slow for DVC (late Jan, early May, mid-Sep) then you will have better luck getting into BCV.

3. Yes the points listed for "Sun-Thurs" is for EACH night, and the points listed for "Fri-Sat" is for EACH night. The weekly price is the total for 7 consecutive nights and will be equal to 5 times the Sun-Thurs points plus 2 times the Fri-Sat points.

The topic of whether or not to "buy where you want to stay" is often debated here. If you keep digging through past posts on this board, you will find a lot of good discussion on this topic. It usually comes up at least once a week so you'll find a lot of good info in some of those earlier posts.

Good luck with your decision! There are a lot of very helpful people here on these boards.
