A few questions

We will be staying at FW this October. If we wanted to go back to Epcot for dinner a couple of nights is it much of a problem to get transportation to Epcot from FW? How much time do you need to allow? Also, does each park have internal types of transportation in case my knees decide to give out?

I can't say for sure how much time to allow (anyone else?!) but you can take a bus from FW to Epcot no problem. If you're not taking your own car, it's probably the best way to get to any of the parks except MK (ferry boat).

Within the parks, there's not really any internal "transportation." MK has the trolley and such that go up and down Main Street, but that's more for fun and that's as far as it goes. Epcot has busses and boats that go around World Showcase, but nothing in Future World. My suggestion would be to look into renting a wheelchair, or does anyone know if they rent something like an electric scooter?

I would say at a very minimum an hour if you are taking all WDW transportation. You have to walk to the bus stop from your site and take the internal FW bus to the front. Then you have to catch the Epcot bus. You didn't say where you were eating but I am assuming one of the countries and you have to allow time to walk there. We tried this and also taking our car. Our car was much faster. We left our site, parked, walked to the tram, then back to WS for dinner.

I did see electric scooters while we were there that look like the ones the park rents - but we had rented from an outside company so I couldn't tell you the costs.

Another thing to consider if you are eating in one of the countries would the Friendship boats. While it is faster to walk if you have trouble with your knees it gets you off your feet. You can catch one near Mexico and go close to Italy or one close to Canada that goes to Morocco.

Transportation is easy, there is a bus for every park and even downtown disney, as for you knees, I just had knee surgery and we will be there for a week, I am gonna rent an electric cart again this time, you can even park hop and get another elec. cart from park to park if they have any available... they cost like $35 for a day... but if you are going to epcot, that is a lot of walking might as well be comfortable.... I used one in Dec. prior to the knee surgery and it was a blessing, I was able to do everything I wanted without pain... Also if you are gonna be there for like a week, then Disney will give you a name of a company that they will deliver the cart to your hotel for about $250 for the week and when you are finished then you just leave it at the front desk...then you can have it in the campground and everywhere... Food for thought...

Actually, Disney won't give you the name of the company to rent from outside, but check out the DisABILITIES board here on DisBoards. There is a great FAQ that will tell you all about outside company scooter rentals.

Just my 2 cents, but I think I would drive to Boardwalk, and take the ferry to Epcot. You'll be in World Showcase when you get off the boat, and if you plan on staying till closing, you can just take the ferry back to Boardwalk and the crowds or traffic won't be as bad. Plus you can stop and get snack at one of the Bordwalk shops before you get back to the car.

We have always taken the boat to the MK then hop on the monarail. We have done this more than 20 times and never took us an hour. Maybe 30 min. We try not to do the busses. Of course we go in August when it's crowded.

We just tell the person at the security gate that we are going to do some shopping or going to eat at one of the restaurants on the Boardwalk and they point you to an open parking lot. After we are done eating we usually walk or take the ferry to Epcot to watch Illuminations and then just casually stroll back. We'll never leave Epcot by bus again, it just seems too hectic.
When my daughter was in a stroller, this worked very well as I hated lugging a stroller on the busses. Plus we don't mind walking, and the view of the Boardwalk at night is very cool.
